Excellent cruise. Everybody is very friendly and helpful and tries to give his best to give the guests an unforgettable trip. The personel at the restaurant is very attentive and know after a few days everybody's personel preferences.The lectures were interesting and teh team members give their best to keep you entertained but there is no need to participate in the activities.Food is excellent so you will not starve during the trip! This really was the trip of a life time! I had high expectations and they were exceeded. The wonderful Expedition Team were extremely enthusiastic, professional, knowledgeable and helpful which made the expedition fantastic. Every care was made to keep every passenger happy and safe. I would also totally recommend the kayaking as this is when you can really see the animals and appreciate it the most and the team were absolutely fantastic. Our Antarctic Awakening Voyage on the Sea Spirit was simply the most amazing holiday we have been on! We have been fortunate to travel to many places on expedition style voyages in the world and nothing compares to the experience we had on the Sea Spirit. The ships hotel staff are extremely professional and the quality of the expedition team is first class. Die Antarktis-Reise mit der M/V Sea Spirit war ein Traum. Das Schiff ist klein und übersichtlich, der Service persönlich und zuvorkommend, das Essen hervorragend, die Kabinen großzügig. Wir hatten pro Tag 2 Anlandungen, die von den Guides sehr gut ausgesucht und organisiert waren. Und haben so viele Pinguine, Robben, Seeelefanten, Albatrosse und andere Vögel gesehen. Ich kann jedem Interessenten nur ans Herz legen, die große Reise mit den Falkland-Inseln und Südgeorgien zu buchen, denn dort sind die Tiere. Wir wagten kaum zu hoffen, dass auch unsere zweite Reise so perfekt wäre, Es war aber so!!! Ostgrönland - ein Traum! Es war die dritte Reise mit der "Sea Spirit", und der Empfang war herzlich, die Wiedersehensfreude bei einigen groß, wie auch schon bei der zweiten Reise. Alle an Bord gaben alles, um den Gästen die Reise einzigartig und unvergesslich zu machen, von der angenehmen, persönlichen Atmosphäre bis zu der Maxime, uns die Natur so nahe wie möglich zu bringen. Die hervorragende Reiseleiterin sorgte mit ihrem Team dafür, dass wirklich alles, was die Natur bot, von uns erlebt werden konnte: Gletscher, Eisberge mit ihren unterschiedlichen Formen und Blautönen, der grönländische "Wald", Begegnung mit Einheimischen, Eisbären und vieles, vieles mehr. Ostgrönland im September 2019 mit der Sea Spirit. Das Schiff ist gemütlich, bietet aber genügend Platz. Die geräumigen, komfortablen Kabinen haben bequeme Betten. Die Crew ist freundlich und zuvorkommend und bereitet eine entspannte Atmosphäre, in der man sich sofort aufgehoben fühlt. Ein sehr engagiertes Expeditionsteam bietet täglich - manchmal mehrmals- interessante Ausflüge und Vorträge an. Unter den Passagieren fand ich als Alleinreisende umgehend Abschluss mit tollen, gleichgesinnten Menschen. Die Naturerlebnisse sind unbeschreiblich eindrücklich. Wir haben die Reise über PolarNews in der Schweiz gebucht. Die Sea Spirit ist als Expeditionsschiff auf einem hohen Level, eher schon luxuriös, jedoch mit 114 Pax gerade ideal um sich mit vielen neuen Gästen auszutauschen. Das Expeditionsteam war hervorragend, brachte viele Inputs und auch Hintergrundinformationen und alle waren mit dem Nordlandvirus infiziert, resp. haben dort schon gewohnt. Professionelle Begleitung durch den Bordfotografen. Mit den 12 Zodiac waren die Anlandungen und Ausflüge gut zu meistern, auch der Heckeinstieg vom Schiff war einfach. Das Essen war hervorragend, Mittags Buffet, am Abend Service und 1x BBQ. Die Mannschaft war freundlich, hilfsbereit und Spezialwünsche wurden gerne erfüllt. Die herrliche Landschaft im Scoresby Sund, Ostgrönland erlebten wir ganz toll, dank des hervorragenden Expeditionsteams und der ganzen Crew. Wir fühlten uns rundum gut betreut und verwöhnt. Kulinarische Highlights wechselten mit spannenden Landgängen, Zodiacfahrten und interessanten Vorträgen ab. Am Ende der Reise erhielten wir einen USB Stick mit allen Infos, Fotos und einer SlideShow, einfach ein geniales Souvenir. Wir werden wieder mit der Sea Spirit die Welt entdecken. Wir sind nun schon zum 2. Mal mit der Sea Spirit unterwegs gewesen. Zuerst in die Antarktis und dann in Ostgrönland. Die ganze Mannschaft, vor allem Anja Erdmann-Rutten macht die Reisen zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis. Alles ist gut durchdacht und geplant und die Anlandungen wirklich toll. Selbst bei schlechtem Wetter gibt es einen Plan B oder C oder auch D. Wir fühlten uns auf dem Schiff wie zu Hause und das Esse ist auch hervorragend. Mein Geburtstag wurde 1Tag früher sehr nett gefeiert, da wir am nächsten Tag abreisten. Wir werden sicher wieder mit der Sea Spirit in See stechen. More...

Super Expeditions-Team, das keine Risiken einging. Ich fühlte mich sehr gut aufgehoben und betreut. Interessante Vorträge. Auch die gesamte Schiffs-Crew war sehr gut. Unsere Reise mit der MS Sea Spirit (Ostgrönland und Polarlichter) vom 15.09.- 26.09.2019 war ein Traum. Die Kabine (Superior Suite) ist zweckmäßig eingerichtet, so dass man sich sofort wohlfühlen kann. Besonders praktisch ist der begehbare Kleiderschrank, der es ermöglicht die Bekleidung aufzuhängen und einzuräumen. Ein Leben „aus dem Koffer“ entfällt. In Ostgrönland hatten wir traumhaftes Wetter. Alle Aktivitäten konnten durchgeführt werde. Höhepunkte waren die Sichtungen von Walen, Moschusochsen und Eisbären (Weibchen mit Nachwuchs). Es gab sehr viele Eisberge im Scoresbysund zu bestaunen. Sogar Polarlichter konnten wir an zwei Abenden beobachten. Einfach nur magisch.Die Mitarbeiter und das Expeditionsteam an Bord waren stets freundlich und zuvorkommend, das Essen hervorragend. Durch Vorträge und Anlandungen bzw. Fahrten mit den Zodiacs waren die Tage ausgefüllt, so dass keine lange Weile aufkam.Diese Reise können wir weiterempfehlen. Natürlich muss das Wetter mitspielen. Wir sind aber überzeugt, dass bei jedem Wetter der optimale Reiseverlauf gewährleistet wird. More...

Dies war meine zweite Reise mit Poseidon; da die Reise in die Antarktis nicht zu toppen war, war ich unsicher, ob ich jetzt eine Reise in die Arktis wagen sollte, ohne hinterher enttäuscht zu werden. Ich wurde nicht enttäuscht; im Gegenteil!"Ms Anja, kommen Sie mit zum Buffet, ich zeige Ihnen etwas", spricht mich der Maitre beim ersten Frühstück an. Ich folge ihm, er deutet auf die Mandelmilch, die neben der herkömmlichen Milch steht. Ich hatte im Fragebogen vor Reiseantritt angegeben, dass ich keine Kuh- sondern Mandel/Kokosmilch bevorzuge. Was für ein 5-Sterne-Plus-Service! Auch sonst wurde wieder bewiesen, dass der Passagier im Mittelpunkt steht. Die Ausflüge waren klasse, wo es Sinn machte, wurden sogar 3 Programme an Land angeboten: Wanderungen schwer und mittel, sowie ein "Beach Bunny"-Programm, bei dem man neben dem Seele-baumeln-lassen vom Expeditionsteam Pflanzen erklärt bekam oder die aufgebauten Stative mit Fernglas nutzen konnte. Die Crew ist immer freundlich und zuvorkommend, das Schiff angenehm in seiner Größe, der Jakuzzi an Deck 5 unbedingt zu empfehlen! Es gibt nichts schöneres, als nach dem Dinner bei Minusgraden im warmen Whirlpool zu sitzen und die Eisberge an sich vorbeigleiten zu sehen.Ich kann Poseidon mit der MS Sea Spirit wärmstens empfehlen! Just arrived of an incredible and interesting expedition travel to Scoresby Sund, in Greenland. The ship is fantastic: the Sea Spirit! But the best is the expedition team, starting by the Kayak Master, Luís, and, in the top, Anja Eadmann, a number one woman that was the expedition leader. First class cabins, service and food, interesting lectures and the best library about polar subjetcs that I have seen, with very rare first editions. Unsere Familie ist begeistert von dieser Reise, die noch sehr lange nachwirken wird. Wir hatten vor allem den Begegnungen mit Eisbären und Walrossen entgegengefiebert. Aber es gab so viel mehr zu sehen.Natürlich trafen wir - mit entsprechendem Sicherheitsabstand - auf Eisbären (insgesamt acht, darunter eine Mutter mit zwei Jungtieren aus diesem Jahr) und sind auch Walrossen an mehreren Tagen sehr, sehr nahe gekommen. Aber wer denkt bei Franz-Josef-Land an Polarweide, arktischen Mohn oder Steinbrech? Oder an Küstenseeschwalben, Eissturmtaucher und Dickschnabellummen?Ein riesiges Lob an das Expeditions-Team, das uns nach den Zodiac-Ausfahrten immer mit tagesaktuellen Vorträgen über Geschichte, Flora, Fauna oder die Auswirkungen des Klimawandels informiert hat. Nicht zu vergessen das Hotel-Team, welches für Komfort und exzellente Verpflegung gesorgt hat. Es gab eine große Auswahl an Speisen, auch immer vegetarische Gerichte.Leider konnten wir die Champ-Insel mit den berühmten Steinkugeln nicht besuchen, da die Eisverhältnisse das nicht zuließen. Aber so wird man daran erinnert, in welcher unwirtlichen Gegend man sich eigentlich befindet und fühlt sich wie auf einer echten Expedition.Der krönende Abschluss war die Begegnung mit vielen Buckelwalen auf der Rückfahrt. My husband and I have been on 2 cruises with Poseidon - Antarctica in 2018 and the Arctic in 2019. Both expeditions were amazing, exciting, enjoyable and informative. We loved the variety of trips we made off the ship in the zodiacs - usually 2 a day subject to weather conditions. We saw many different types of wildlife, visited research stations, saw plants unique to the regions, beautiful icebergs and went through the ice with the zodiacs (one of my favourite activities).Everyday, there were talks/lectures on a variety of topics which was another aspect to the trips that was both enjoyable and educational.The ship we were on both times was the Sea Spirit and it was excellent. We were in a cabin on deck 5 which had a balcony and I highly recommend that for taking photographs at any time of day or night.The food was very good and the staff catered for many different nationalities and dietary requests.The staff on the ship worked very hard at all times and were always polite, friendly and helpful.Our trips would not have been this enjoyable if it wasn't for the wonderful expedition leaders! On our second trip we saw some familiar faces but all of the leaders were exceptional. Each of them was an expert in a different field - flora, ice, wildlife, photography, history, etc. They always had a smile on their faces and were willing to chat to us whenever we approached them. All of them were professional, helpful, friendly and ran the expeditions efficiently.If you like wildlife, ice, excitement, adventure and being looked after by an excellent team then I highly recommend Poseidon for a unique and wonderful experience! My 3rd expedition with Poseidon on the Sea Spirit proved to be as exciting as the first two, to both coasts of Greenland and Iceland before Svalbard on this 3rd expedition. Longyearbyen proved to be a good starting and departing point. There are places in the spread out town to walk to, and scenery towards the sound was beautiful in the Solstice sunshine offering deep shadows and contrasts all 24 hours.The boarding was very efficient, with our luggage right in front of our rooms. The fitting of boots and parka with its emblems was well-organized, as my size was not available (remember to put on full thermal socks before trying on the boots!) when I needed a size larger with full thermal gear on.The fire drill and fire information in the cabins were both very orderly, so if we had to prepare quickly, say, in the middle of the night, we know what we have to wear and what NOT to bring. The lifeboats are fitted with coverings to help keep us warm in case we had to evacuate.The safety factor is something I cannot over-emphasize in an ice-filled polar sea. The ice line was constantly watched, and our tour team leader often stayed up almost all night with the captain and crew to design a course to avoid the fickle ice up north while providing us with incredible, sometimes previously unvisited, sites to view the abundant wildlife that he knew about as he lives in Longyearbyen.The captain was very funny and sociable. His hysterical introduction of the crew members made us spill our champagne, so our glasses had to be refilled.The lectures were quite useful and interesting. I did not attend them all, as, with anyone, one's interests vary and sometimes there were repairs or laundry to be done for the next day's landings.Polar bears on the hunt were the main feature. We saw two of them. The people with giant lenses that extended almost to the polar bears themselves shared super closeup films and photos of the chase when it was either too far away for my zoom lens, or our Zodiac was not in position to catch the footage. The final score was Seals & Reindeer 2, Polar bears 0. I was cheering for the seals and reindeer.Reindeer were abundant, allowing rank amateur photographers to get really good videos and photos. The same with abundant walruses and seals. Birds were beyond my abilities and equipment, but others shared their rookery footage. The ones following the ship gave me some good footage.Our visit to far-northern Ny-Alesund research town where the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen had over-wintered and had flown from, was remarkable. The museum is memorable.The food on board--forget dieting or anything like that when on the Sea Spirit. I loved the food prepared by international chefs for all nationalities except haggis, which was never offered and which I never have eaten and may never try even if offered.The fellow passengers were once again a variety of people who share a dedication to seeing and hopefully preserving the arctic for future generations. They were very sharing and helpful to us less-experienced eager beavers.I could go on and on, but some readers may have already benefited by being put to sleep. Others may have reached for their eye drops.One improvement I'd like to suggest on land: the hotel in Longyearbyen does have one strange policy I wish they would change--in the high season, check-in is only after 15:00 hrs. To secure my room for a 2:00 am arrival from Oslo an extra day before the expedition, I had to reserve and pay for the room for the previous day as well. The stay on the day of the expedition is provided free. For the 08:00 morning arrival after the expedition, the 15:00 check in time threw me. So I will also book the previous day in order to be able to check in right away when I arrive both times.Next year, I plan to do my 4th expedition, the polar expedition to Franz Josef Land. After that? I may be tempted to look at Antarctica as I want to visit Chile for listening to Inti Illimani's, Violeta Para's and Victor Jara's music there. Die MS Sea Spirit von Poseidon Expedition ist ein hervorragendes Expeditionskreuzfahrtschiff mit Fokus auf die Destination (wie hier FranzJose-Land in der Arktis). Internationale Lektoren verschiedener Fachbereiche informieren über Geschichte, Natur und Tierwelt. Mit Zodiacs verschedene Inseln angefahren, auf denen sich die Passagiere nur nach entsprechender Einweisung oder mit einem Führer auf ausgesteckten Routen bewegen dürfen, um die sensible Natur und erstaunliche Flora nicht zu zerstören. Die Passagiere aus aller Welt (von Neuseeland bis Argentinien) wissen die schönen, geräumigen Kabinen an Bord zu schätzen, das elegante Restaurant mit mehrgängigem Gourmet-Dinner und ausgewählten Weinen. Auch der gemütliche Salon mit Bar wird sehr geschätzt. Vor allem auch die reichj bestückte Bibliothek. Die Passagiere, die bei Poseidon Expeditions buchen, sind aus historischem Interesse und Begeisterung dieser besonderen Natur- und Tierwelt an Bord. Ich bewerte die Reise Svalbard - Franz-Josef-Land als sehr gut !Wir hatten jeden Tag mindestens ein Highlight !Wir sahen Gletscher und Eis und Gletscher und Eis und Gletscher und . ..Wunderschön !Wir sahen Belugawale, Walrosse, Eisbären, Wale, Sand, Felsen, die großen runden Steine auf Champ Island, Vogelfelsen mit zehntausenden von Vögeln, kleine Blumen, wunderschöne Flechten und Moose und immer wieder Eisbrocken und Eisberge und Gletscher. Es gab Sonne und Nebel, ruhige See und Wellen, Windstille bis starke Böen, etc.Neben den weiteren Anlandungen sahen wir auf Kap Norwegia die Reste des Unterschlupfes in dem Nansen und Johansen seinerzeit überwinterten und in Bukhta Tikhaya die Polarstation. Auf dem Rückweg von FJL nach Svalbard geriet das Schiff in eine Gruppe von Walen die von Schwärmen von Möwen umgeben immer wieder auftauchten. Der Kapitän reagierte damit darauf, daß er den Passagieren sehr lange Zeit zur Beobachtung und zum fotografieren gab. Und obwohl das Schiff witterungsbedingt einen Tag früher Richtung Svalbard zurückfuhr, wurde der verbleibende Tag in den Fjorden von Svalbard bestens genutzt. Für das Expeditionsteam sind wir voll des Lobes. Wir schätzen sehr das Verantwortungsbewußtsein des Expeditionsleiters Ryan Hope-Inglis verbunden mit der Hingabe aus ganzem Herzen, das Maximum an Möglichem den Passagieren zu bieten. Wenn ich mich recht erinnere wurden mindestens 2x noch nach dem Abendessen (nach 21:00 Uhr) die Zodiaks zu Wasser gelassen, um Walrosse und einen Eisbären zu beobachten. Ein anderes Mal mußte die Ausfahrt kurzfristig abgesagt werden, obwohl die Scouts bereits unterwegs waren, da die Windböen bis über 70 Knoten anstiegen. Die beiden Leiterinnen des Kajak Clubs Ida und Marta haben uns die Paddelausflüge zu einem echten Traum werden lassen. In jeder Beziehung top. Die Reise ins Franz Josef Land war ein einmalig schönes Erlebnis. Besonders herausragend waren neben der Schiffscrew die hervorragenden Expeditionsleiter. Sie verstanden es ihr enormes Wissen in interessanten Vorträgen verständlich und begeisternd weiterzugeben. My experience to the high arctic with Poseidon Expeditions was absolutely wonderful. The office team, ship's crew and expedition leaders went above and beyond to ensure that all facets of the trip were planned and executed in a professional, friendly, and adventurous manner. The ship's captain and crew worked very hard with the expedition team to ensure the expedition was able to take full advantage of all opportunities to see wildlife, amazing scenery, and enjoy incredible shore landings. The expedition team also ensured there were daily lectures and activities that suited a wide variety of interests and abilities. Let me start by saying that this was a great trip!! The trip to Franz Josef land is a very special one. it is heavily dependent on weather conditions, and the wildlife is not abundant in this icy, foggy and frosted land. You might easily miss it all together. we had a very good weather at the first part of the trip and then a storm came and the crew took a decision to go back to Svalbard and make a tour over there. It was a good decision as we had the chance to compare the two lands and experience both. i personally loved Franz Josef very much. The space, the serenity, the light, the reflections, the icebergs, the birds (tens of thousands of them), the whales. Every landing was a surprise, was different, there was a story. It was fascinating. The small flowers, likens, mosses and shrubs, struggling to flourish, it takes a very close look to appreciate their beauty. And the thought that i am one of very few people who are fortunate to be here - it felt incredible. In Svalbard we saw more animals - foxes and puffins, but also more people, and the magic was almost gone.The ship we knew from our previous tour to Antarctica in November 2017, and also part of the expedition team, and it really felt like coming home again, being welcomed with hugs and kisses and being greeted every day in our own language (Hebrew) in the dining room by Ruel. The service was 100% , no less, in all fronts - the rooms, the ship crew, the food, the expedition team, all functioned in the most smooth and optimal mode.Finally I wish to make 2 small criticism: 1) there was an unrealistic expectation to see many mammals: Polar bears, we saw only 3 and from very far away. Walruses - we saw only a couple of families and we took a safety distance from them. Is it just bad luck or is it an inherent problem originating from the contradiction between the bears hunting on ice and the ship avoiding the ice?2) We felt that the lectures, as well as the room TV, did not give us enough background about the history of North Pole expeditions, and the history of Franz Josef land. we strongly recommend to visit the two museums in Longyearbyen. In both you may find a lot of information. Especially in the museum of Polar Expeditions, where the history is presented in great details, including original videos. i hope this fault will be corrected in the future. More...

I would highly recommend the Poseidon Expeditions. And the Sea Spirit is the most beautiful expedition boat in the world. Extremely comfortable yet made to plough through exceptional conditions of Antarctica and the High Arctic . Be it sailing through the tumultuous Drake Passage or the giant icebergs of Greenland. Highly professional and hospitable the expedition crew and staff meet every client with the utmost care and warmth. The food is amazing. The cabins spacious and comfortable. The decks open on to beautiful views out of this world. We are surrounded by Nature and wildlife pertaining to the remotest regions of our earth. One could hang around with friends in the Club Lounge, to the wonderful array of delicious drinks, sandwiches, crepes, tea and coffee or retire to the quiet well stacked library. I look forward to returning on the cruise to Svalbard in June and meeting the expedition crew and staff, many whom I know. It feels like returning home away from home. More...
