We got married at Portland House last weekend. It was a fantastic day and I'd recommend it to anyone. Olivia, Leighanne, Sue and the rest of the team are so helpful, friendly and professional. Hosted an event here. Staff are friendly and work cooperatively. Only issue and warning is to NEVER leave items lying unattended as staff will collect this in and put it in the cloakroom then make you pay for the cloakroom holding fee even if you didn't want/ask for it to be stored (£2 per item). I am lucky enough to have chosen this venue for my wedding which was last week. From the moment we booked it, Leighanne, Olivia and the events team were amazing! So flexible, helpful and accommodating to everyone. The venue is perfect if you want a blank canvas to make your own, it is such a grand room you can really make it your own! the prices for drinks are not what you would expect like other wedding venues, they are very reasonable. Portland house is such a great venue! Olivia (events manager) is so helpful, attentive and knows what is going on. She is always there to answer any of your queries! The space is fantastic and great for a number of events. For our sixth form event there was plenty of space for everyone to dance and enjoy themselves. Definitely 5 star and recommend to anyone. I dont know where to start - as soon my husband and I walked into this venue we just knew there and then this was the place to celebrate our wedding! from the very first day of organising till the very end sue, leighanne and Olivia were absolutely AMAZING. The food was amazing and everyone LOVED the fish and chips in the eve ! Portland House was the venue for the Taylor Wimpey South Wales Summer event this year. We had the pleasure of dealing with Olivia and Leighanne from the events team who are an absolute asset to the venue, they understood exactly what we wanted and ticked every single box we didn’t even think about. They put up with me emailing them at least twice a week with an updated list of guests or something that we needed changing etc which you wouldn’t have believed on the night - it was perfect and lived up to more than expected!! they couldn’t have been more helpful and without them the event would not have been as successful and enjoyable. Came here for a wedding reception and the hall space was fantastic .. not so crammed in that you had to suck in deeply to manoeuvre between tables. Good space for the littl'uns to muck around and toilet provisions were good enough (at least for the gents!). Could do with some audio speakers dotted around as it is quite echoey for just a single PA speaker and people from the middle to the back were not able to distinguish what was being said. There is a fairly spacious car park opposite the front of Portland and you probably have to inform the house before parking there to avoid being clamped. Not sure if we had in-house caterers but our table got only average service: we had to get our own carafe of water whereas everyone else had theirs brought to them, we got missed out with the round of extra gravy, only 2 potatoes to go with our beef (the beef was a little tasteless unfortunately, but quite tender at least), no mustard or horseradish offered (we had to hang around for ages before we could ask someone), and we weren't asked which dessert we wanted but had one plonked in front of us, but we got good tea and coffee service at least. Thank you to Portland House for hosting our conference reception- the event was very successful and gave our international delegates a great introduction to Cardiff. The venue is impressive and the outstanding staff made the event a pleasure to organise. Unlike some venues, nothing was too much trouble and the team were incredibly flexible. Olivia was our key contact and she was amazing from the first enquiry through to the departure of the final guest. This is the first time we have used Portland House and we will use this venue again. Where do I start. The entire team of Portland House have been incredible from start to finish. The events team lead by Leighanne and supported by Olivia made sure everything was finished to the highest standard. Any queries I had were answered in a timely manner. On the night the whole team was professional and ensured we had a good night. The food was to die for, everything had amazing flavour and the gravy was top notch! The DJ provided was amazing allowing requests from everyone on the dance floor ensuring everyone had something to dance to. My husband and I are still in our wedding bubble smiling from ear to ear, we had the most amazing day celebrating with friends and family in such a fantastic breathtaking venue. We started our wedding planning 18months ago when we first met Sue from Portland House, we cancelled all viewings after this visit. From our first meeting Leighanne and Sue were absolutely fantastic helped us with every query every request they went above and beyond during the planning and on the day. I’ve got to say, the staff at Portland House have gone above and beyond to make our event one to remember, especially Leanne! We decided to have our graduation ball here because the venue itself is absolutely stunning and the pricing was very reasonable. What a venue !! A fantastic iconic building that was once home to The Bank ! Plus it’s in the heart of the once bustling docks area of Cardiff now known as Cardiff Bay which is only a short distance to Cardiff City Centre ! Had my birthday party arranged last weekend ! To say I’m overwhelmed by the evening is an understatement. Sue Franks and her team at Portland we’re absolutely fantastic from start to finish! As I didn’t decide to have a celebration till a few weeks before, but wow what can I say about the whole team , Sue had gone above and beyond and had exceeded my expectations! I can honestly say Sue orchestrates her team so fantastic that she would give Andre Rieu a run for his money !!!!! We held an open conversation event which none of us had ever done before and the staff at PH were more than accommodating of what we needed from them.
