Jack has been teaching my 15 year old son for more than two years. He is a marvellous teacher; patient, observant and considered in his comments and feedback. Heartily recommended.

Q&As

My passion as a teacher is to pass on knowledge. Playing music is of such value and it makes me very happy to help those who want to learn and benefit. Everything that I put into my teaching is a result of my own love of playing. Learning to play is about absorbing the language of music and my role is to make it possible for my students to do this. Every time I teach someone a piece or technique I adapt my approach and methods for each individual. Therefore when I instruct a student I'm not just trying the solve the present problem; I'm also thinking about their future and what will make the next step possible.

Over the years of teaching one to one and running countless workshops courses, I've learned a lot about learning styles and how to approach each student as an individual. One of the most important things for a teacher to do is to tune into the student to see what approach will make the most difference for them and help them to achieve their goals. Therefore every time I teach someone a piece or technique, I adapt my approach and method for them personally.

With this in mind I want to find the best way to develop the technique they will find the most useful in the long run. This is so important because it sets the student on the right path for their future as a player and makes each next step possible as they progress.

Services

One to One guitar lessons taught via Skype. Lessons are arranged and booked with me via email or telephone contact. Any style of playing can be covered to the required depth through Skype lessons. Materials such as tabs, audio backing tracks or additional videos may will be sent to the student as email attachment.

In my experience Skype lessons are surprisingly good for creating a greater sense of independence while playing or practising at home.
I've found in the past that when students who've seen me 'face to face' and then switch over to lessons on Skype, actually made more progress in most areas very quickly. I think that it has something to do with the fact that, I as the teacher, can't actually position your hands on the guitar. So you as the student, have to listen carefully and take more control over what you are doing. This ultimately is what makes you improve as a player along with the right guidance.
