What’s the secret to keeping a party dancing all night long?
Every DJ has something that works for them. Obviously good music selection is key. Crowd observation and timing are just as important. Usually I take requests at each event but I try to get a playlist from the host. But every good DJ has a list of at least 20 popular songs that everybody loves to dance to regardless of age.
How would you describe your ‘style’?
I can adapt. I have a laid back personality so I'm not the "Look at me" type of DJ that is constantly on the microphone. When I started this business, I was kind of an introvert but over the years I have grown into a pretty good MC. I have no issues speaking in front of 1000's of people. My music preferences are old school, 80's, hip-hop, and classic rock but I have a large music collection that can cater to most audiences.
What do you love most about your job?
I really have a great time watching people have a great time. Just knowing that I was a part of a lifetime event that will always be cherished is awesome. When I go places to hang out with friends and family and there is a DJ or entertainment involved, either I'm stealing ideas for my gigs or thinking of ways that I can do better.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I come from a family of musicians so I really didn't have a choice. I've played in bands through elementary, high school, and college. I would DJ college parties because I had a huge vinyl collection. Then CDs. I worked as a DJ in 1994 at my college radio station which mainly played R&B and Jazz. 8 years later, a buddy if mine wanted to start a DJ Services. He was the hype-man (MC) and I would mix the music which is my strength. He didn't have any money so I purchased all of the start up equipment. He bailed right after I bought the equipment so I started on my own with Platinum Sounds. I never thought I would still be doing this 16 years later.
Why should our clients choose you?
I have experience with all types of events, all age groups, and I'm reasonably priced. I use QSC speakers which are considered top of the line by today's DJ standards. I'm well educated so I know how to conduct myself. I try to make all my clients feel like they are my only client so you will get the best of me if you choose us.
