I recently organised a 50th birthday party weekend with various activities and hired Pix-ELS to do the photography over the 3 days. The photographer, Beverley, was very accommodating to my requests, I wanted a mixture of posed and natural photographs, indoors and outdoors, daytime and evening, she even did extra photographs that I didn’t ask for like some of our venue inside and out, the fireworks we had and extra portraits of the kids. What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
There is not just one secret to taking great photographs but a combination of elements. A few of these are: having an in-depth understanding & close, slowly nurtured relationship with light; having an understanding of the venue or subject, particularly personality if for portrait photography; having detailed knowledge of the workings of your camera; having an artistic streak & ‘photographer’s eye’ - having the ability to imagine an image before taking the shot & being able to see a great photograph before taking it.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I would ask about the style of photographs they would like first & foremost. Then I would work on gaining an understanding of the venue/location & the subject/subjects of the photographs. I may also have suggestions of my own to put forward and discuss, in order to achieve the best results possible.
What do you love most about your job?
There are many aspects to love. I love the freedom photography gives me & the ability to express my artistic abilities. I love that a photograph captures a moment in time to be looked back on. I love the joy that my photographs can bring to others.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I was inspired by my own creativity & a desire to expand that creativity. I was also inspired by the joy & appreciation from previous clients.
Why should our clients choose you?
I really care about what I do & why I am hired to take the photographs, I will always complete a photoshoot to the highest standard. I endeavour to never let anyone down. Photographs are important, especially ones that capture memories - these are to be cherished forever so must be the best they can be.
