I gave Pine Ranch Dog Training a very harsh review earlier out of anger & frustration with the trainer.
We have since gotten together and worked things out.
I now have a better understanding of his training philosophy.
There were questions I should have asked upfront but didn’t. Specifically, what’s your training philosophy; what I can expect my dog to learn from the program, in this case the foundation program; timing; and why. The program elements are age specific, based upon what the puppy is capable of learning or understanding given its age.
Better communication would have solved some of the issues I experienced.
Would I use him again? Probably now that I have a better understanding.

I would not recommend Desi and would rate him zero if I could.
I contracted with him in May 2020 and have nothing but frustrations.

The last time we talked, I asked when we would start teaching Fitz ‘sit, stand, come, down, and heel’? You told me between 8 & 9 months.
He is nine months now. When do you want to get together to complete the training?
Oct 12 Desi, I haven’t heard back from you so I have begun training sit, stand, & come to Fitz on my own. I have to ask what services I purchased from you for the $2,800? I had already house trained him & was beginning to teach him to sit. You stated he would not be ready for sit, stand, & come training until he was 8 - 9 months old. He is now between 9 & 10 months old. (See prior text) It appears to me that all I got was 4 weeks for kenneling, teaching him not to squirt, a sawdust stick, and the training collar.
To continue this conversation, the foundation camp provided was for two weeks presumably at your ranch. I got four & don’t know why. I followed your lead. I was told to provide the yes, no, and okay markers training myself. I have not received sit-stay & down-stay, & come. I have started taking him to the Chatfield Off-Leash park. He loves it and has began to come when I attract his attention. Please respond.
I received a text from him on Oct 13; Hi Mike sorry for the late response, been having a very busy month. I will schedule something with you next week to discuss the transition so you can understand better. Talk to you soon!
I have not heard from him yet as of November 16.
He always has the excuse that he has been very busy.
I was asked how to contact him by an individual in my complex because I had talked him up early on. I told the individual I could not recommend him in good conscience.

I can be difficult to deal with, am a glass half full person & a whiner. Maybe you do not want to deal with me.
Or maybe you have so many clients, he just doesn't care.
I would have liked an explanation if only "you got what you paid for, why are you complaining"?
All of this rant is to express my dissatisfaction with him.
I would recommend Zak George's dog training videos on YouTube. They are free, but you have to do the training yourself. Maybe you don't want to do that.

Desi took on our adorable and yet difficult chihuahua rescue Gladys. Gladys had some tough years before she joined our family. We had not had much success with her desire to defend herself from anyone she did not know well. Desi and his team took Gladys in for approximately a month and she returned a much improved and far more polite little gal. I can’t say enough about Desi’s expertise. He is amazing and so is his entire team. Desi even took her on a flight and acclimated her to the TSA experience :)!!! I would highly recommend Pine Ranch and Desi to all !!! More...

Valerie is by far one of the most caring and dedicated dog trainers I've worked with. I had a very fear aggressive pup that I could barely handle at one point. He was very timid and scared of most outdoor situations . He could NOT stand to be around other dogs without panicking and going into fight mode. He would bark at people when uncomfortable and may even try to nip you. I trained him as a puppy, but he would NOT listen. He would even bolt out the door and refuse to come back and have me chase him around the street. Let me tell you, Valerie completely changed our pup for the better. He came back obedient, happy, and confident. All of a sudden I could take him everywhere, even off leash ! Something I never thought imaginable. He can be in the presence of other dogs without freaking out and may even try to play with a few of them. We now have a method for introducing him to strangers in our home and we haven't had a problem since. My little tazmanian devil came back an angel ! Our relationship has never been better and we communicate so well. Val helped turn my Jax from a liability to one of the sweetest pups you'll meet. I don't know where we'd be without her. I was hesitant to let her take my baby away for boarding, but it was completely necessary. Definitely trainers you can trust. More...

My husband and I were at our wits end. We have two beautiful, active pups however they were uncontrollable Le. We had not slept in what seemed likes months, they were destroying our home and sanity. He reached out and Des showed up the next day. In one hour he had trained us on how to train our pups. After leaving our dogs were calmer, they were listening and believe it or not we were able to sleep through the night. This was actually the first night that our youngest pup allowed us to pet her without her gnawing on us. I thought I was gonna have to get rid of my dog until I took him to be trained by Desi. My dog was an absolute mess and was completely crazy. Omg where do I even begin!!! When I found Desi and Valerie I was in desperation mode to get our dogs trained. We have two full bred pit bulls, one blue one red. To say they were disobedient would be an understatement. They would jump on people, bark at everything, no way would we trust them around kids and sometimes would get nippy and bite. My dad is the one who really pushed for it and even offered to pay for whatever it took to get them trained so he didn’t have to worry about us getting hurt or having them hurt someone. At work one evening I googled “dog training” and looked at a few people that came up but most stated they didn’t train pit bulls. So I kept looking and came across Treasure Coast Dog Training. Once I saw they trained pit bulls and police dogs I immediately texted the number provided for Desi. He was traveling back from Hong Kong and said he’d get back to me once home. Sure enough he contacted me to set up a meeting at our home to get an idea of what training would be necessary for our girls. Long story short we felt an immediate connection to them once meeting in person. Their care and compassion for our girls was refreshing since most people are afraid of pit bulls. They suggested train and board for 4-5 weeks. My heart sank. Being away from my pups for that long was heart breaking to me but I knew it was for their best interest. They picked them up the following week and they were gone for 5 weeks at doggy boot camp. We got updates along with photos saying how great they were doing. Seeing them out and about got me really excited to take them out ourselves! 5 weeks flew by and we had our pups back. When they came back we had a training session where we learned the language they were trained with and how to use the new training collars. Guess this can’t be a short story It might have been hard to be away from them for 5 weeks but it was totally worth it when they came home. Happy and energetic as always but obedient and able to be controlled. Which was huge for me! I had to learn to be assertive and once I did and followed the training protocol they listen to me and I can walk them no problem. They are great with people especially kids. Love to play and listen super well even to the youngest child. To this day we go to Desi and Val for boarding when we are out of town and anything else dog related! I trust them with my whole heart and can’t thank them enough for turning our dogs into the well behaved dogs they are! If you’re looking for quality training, look no further! ❤️❤️❤️ More...
