I credit PBA classes with helping me build my strength and increase my flexibility while learning more about my body in general. I used to call this my 'back repair class' after an injury last year - Chris was helpful in finding alternative exercises I could do while I built up my core and lower back strength. Chris is a passionate teacher, tirelessly devoted to her work. I have been attending her school for well over 10 years, amounting to hundreds of classes. These lessons have constantly unfolded in a variety of ways, never monotonous or mechanical. She'd come in with new technical insights on basic exercises, tiny detail refinements that however dramatically transform the experience. Or she'd innovate existing Pilates exercises with insights gained from her Yoga and Kung Fu classes. She is a perfectionist in correcting our moves, compelling us to forego our busy and wondering minds and fully concentrate in class. Her very precise instructions are coupled with relevant bitesize anatomical lessons, making the classes interesting and diverse. The Hand-stand sessions are more energising than coffee, and the Double-leg reaches are sublimely beautiful as forms. I have tried a number of other Pilates schools in the past. The anatomical knowledge that Chris brings to her teaching has allowed me to tune into my body and understand its limitations and potential in a way that no other classes have. I decided to join Chris’ school in 2015 and what a fantastic decision that was! My strength, posture, and fitness have hugely improved since starting. I have also gained invaluable anatomical knowledge about my body from Chris’ superb attentive and knowledgable teaching style, and this really allows you to understand the specific benefits of each exercise, and also how to perform them to the best of your ability. I hugely enjoy the classes, the supportive environment allows a moment of calm, and a space for dedicated application and concentration. Chris is a brilliant teacher with a huge wealth of experience, and follows the progress of each student, tailoring exercises to any injuries that a student may have. Pilates Body Awareness - managed by Chris Hocking - is the best in Central London. The school run by Chris herself has many long standing students who have been with the school for many years because of the quality and value of her classes. She provides an in-depth anatomical explanation for every technique and makes sure students carry out the exercises correctly. As a complete beginner in Ten Pilates Classes Pilates Body Awareness, I have been transformed from an unfit, lower back pain, healing broken foot woman to someone with strength and endurance, and a better body shape. The atmosphere is friendly and focused among students and the highly qualified teacher, a professional ballet dancer. I and several others, who also had injuries, have continued to a second term. I am so impressed with this Pilates class. I have taken various Pilates classes before but this one more than any other seems to really get to the essence of Pilates. Chris is an excellent teacher. Great series of graded classes so you improve your flexibility and overall fitness at a pace that is right for you. Chris has expert knowledge of human anatomy and you will iron-out bad habits over time. Friendly and supportive environment in which to learn - and loose some of those hard-to-shift pounds. Christine is a very thorough teacher, exceptionally professional, knowledgeable and making you at ease with all the different workouts given every week. If you want to experience the real Pilates method this is the right place. Although it is still early days I have already noticed some improvements in my core strength and tone. Practice Pilates in this lovely venue is really awesome! Chris is a wonderful teacher. Since when I started 2 years ago I improved a lot. I don't understand how yelp categorises its reviews there are clearly more positive reviews for Pilates Body Awareness and I can only say that the negative ones were written by people expecting something easy not something which requires paying attention and being prepared to accept correction. These classes are excellent value and the people who attend them are great company I would urge anybody thinking about pilates to give it a go and attend with an open mind. More...
