I've only been here twice but both times were excellent.  I've only been there on week nights and then it's a great quiet place for a excellent meal with a beautiful view! I had the arugula salad as an appetizer and the skirt steak topped with shrimp stuffed with crab.  Excellent!! I think that may have been a special though so I'm not sure it's always on the menu.  It is not on the main strip on the nautical mile which I prefer.  Excellent meal and already looking forward to going back.  Service was great as well! My first time here was on a recommendation about 6 years ago and have not had a bad meal since. Every time I have family or friends in town to entertain I know that bringing them to Pier 95 is a guaranteed great experience from the food to the service! We tried Pier 95 for Mother's Day weekend and found the food and ambiance enjoyable. We had a lovely table next to the window overlooking the marina and felt very nautical, even though we were not on Nautical Mile. We started with the Maryland Crab cakes (not really Old Bay potent but a good substitute), the Portuguese Codfish Cakes (enjoyed by all) and an extremely flavorful lobster bisque of a generous size. We then dined on both Paellas (Seafood and Valenciana) as well as the Mariscada, all packed with lobster and delicious seafood. I heard the Bronzino special was one of the best my wife ever had.  Desserts were standard and pleasant. If there was any music, I do not recall it, and the only thing lacking was an outdoor table. The service was extremely attentive and they had on-site parking, which was a plus. We are going back again this summer. More...

I thought this place was great. It's an older crowd for sure and it's not "the mile." Probably why the food is outstanding. Everything we had from calamari to shrimp to pork chop was outstanding. Grab a drink before and/or after on the mile, but to eat a meal that's actually good and prepared well with great variety... Come here. Will definitely return. More...

We came to Pier 95 tonight for Mother's Day. We are sitting at a table with the perfect view of the marina right outside. Beautiful boats even though the sky is laden with heavy clouds . The menu is amazing. There were 16 or 18 items as main courses on the price fixed menu and a nice array of appetizers as well. The restaurant was done over after the hurricane five years ago and it looks freshened up and cozy inside. More...

One of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time. It was a great experience from the time I walked in to the time I walked out. The grilled octopus was delicious and the fried calamari was full of flavor. Everything was on the pricey side but the quality of the food was great and exceeded my expectations so it was worth it. We had the coffee cheesecake and the creme brûlée cheesecake...both to die for! The mojito was perfect. Last but not least, the waiter, Jose, was the icing on the cake. By far one the Best restaurant I have ever been to! The ambiance alone speaks for the beauty and eloquence of the restaurant. Perfectly lit for a romantic dinner but serene enough for a family outing. The food was AMAZING! Large portions that are served family style. My entire family was blown away with how perfect the seafood was cooked and seasoned. Not one dish was bland or just ok. The Branzino was cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and an explosion of flavor on the inside. The Paella Valenciana was to die for!!! The staff knew exactly how to make recommendations for wine as well as entrees and they were very attentive but respectful of your space even on a busy night! Luckily for us the restaurant was local and honestly NOW we have no reason to travel far for DELICIOUS food! Hope you check them out because you will definitely not be disappointed! More...

I try to go to dinner with friends about once a week and we try new restaurants every time. I called to make reservations and the lady on the phone wasn't very pleasant; she was short and wanted to get you off the phone just as quickly as you got on the phone. Basically she didn't want to give you the time of day. This set an overall uneasy mood upon arrival. However once we got there the host was very nice and seated us immediately. The food was great. We ordered the trio oysters/clam/shrimp, jumbo shrimp, and quail as appetizers and the bass and duck as entrees. But here is the BEST part of the night: our waiter (Joey from Spain) was absolutely phenomenal. Like I said, we have been to quite a few restaurants over the past few years and Joey has made it to the top of the list. He was sooooo kind and accommodating, very punctual with food and our other requests (more bread, more drinks, etc.) He had such a lovely sense of humor that really added that extra "wow" factor to our night!!! Aside from the great food, I would honestly just go back to have Joey be our waiter again because he made our dining experience a memorable one!The ONLY reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the way the lady on the phone handled herself. She really tainted the integrity of the restaurant to the point where I almost called back and cancelled the reservations but I am really glad I didn't let her ruin my night! More...

Loved this place. I'm from Manhattan where us foodies are very picky. My mom lives in Freeport and lives near Woodcleft, I was visiting today and she did not want to have lunch on Woodcleft, "overpriced, noisy, not a good crowd". So we went to Pier 95, and I must say we all had a wonderful meal. The service was excellent, the view very nice, the food very good. When I visited in the past we went to Rachels, but no more (mom refused to go there, and I'm glad), Pier 95 might be more expensive, but you get what you pay for: professional staff and a nice meal. Just came back from a wonderful meal @ Pier 95. We went there based upon the Zagat score and we were thrilled. All 4 of us ordered from the specials, and couldn't have been any happier. We were waited on by who I think is the owner, and the service couldn't have been better. We figured since its a Portuguese restaurant, we'd ask him to recommend the wine for the ladies and beer for the men.  Home runs with both! The soups were amazing, as was the meal and the desert was to die for.  If they have it, try the Poached Pear. My wife who'd kill for chocolate, couldn't keep her spoon out o f it once she had a taste. The view: So much better than the Nautical Mile! I love boats, so honestly, I'm happy eating a burger as long as its near the water. Instead  of looking out at commercial fishing and tour boats,  you have a wonderful view of a wider canal and 2 marinas filled with pleasure craft. I must admit, I was shocked to read the couple of negative reviews on Yelp! Then again, I guess anyplace can have an off night. More...

Last night's dinner at Pier 95 was lovely and wonderful.Marc S. and I were graciously invited by his parents for our last night's dinner in Merrick, NY.  We arrived promptly at Freeport for our 8 o'clock reservation, greeted warmly by the hostess, and seated us near the big windows...close enough so we may have a great view of the docked boats in the canal, but not close enough to be frozen by the wind draft.  We were each given a menu and asked for our beverage preference.  We opted and synonymously agreed for glasses of water and a bottle of the house Portuguese red, Grao Vasco's 2005 Dao (deep w/ a hint of fruit notes). For starters, Marc opted for a bowl of CLAM CHOWDER and I, the LOBSTER BISQUE...where we switched half-way thru the bowl.  We both agreed that the Clam Chowder was much more appetizing than the Lobster Bisque, which was lacking the creamy / milky texture with a piece of lobster meat in the center.  Ask Mr. Soup Nazi, he would agree!  Marc's parents shared the CRAB CAKES, and they found them delicious. Our main course was a ceramic bowl of PAELLA VALENCIANA (lobster pieces, scallops, shrimps, mussels, clams, Portuguese sausage, and chicken).  Marc and I shared this dish down to the last pieces in the bowl.  The seafood and meat are tender, and the rice and veggie pieces are spiced properly w/ hints of saffron.  While Marc's dad had the REGULAR PAELLA (sans sausages, chicken, and scallops), and his mom, the SEAFOOD BOWL w/ herbed white wine sauce.  Again, they found their dishes palatable. Our dessert consisted of an order of the TARTUFO (2 flavors of Italian ice cream w/ a Maraschino cherry in the center, enrobed in a shell of dark chocolate) and CREME BRULEE, paired w/ demistasses of espressos & regular coffee.  We all enjoyed the sweet offerings as we chatted away about the nuances of our relationships and tax season.  Aren't we such deipnosophists? It was a great dinner and a great night indeed! More...
