Went here for date night and I loved it, we had the pickled olives for a appetizer then went to have Meat which was the beat meat ive had with a delicious sauce and ofcourse some wine.

My husband and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary yesterday and chose to have dinner at Piccolo. We were on vacation and visiting from Delaware. We would highly recommend Piccolo. It is a small, quaint and romantic restaurant. We sat at one of the two window tables and even though there was a couple at the other table, it still felt private. Our server was sweet, attentive and knowledgeable about both the wine list and the menu. My husband had the lamb ragu and I had the meatball dish and the cavatelli filled with corn and sweet cream. All three dishes were Devine!!!!  Also, nice that the pasta dishes were offered as either a starter or full entree.  The portions were perfect. We opted not to have dessert and instead enjoyed finishing our wine. The walk home to our hotel was lovely and we look forward to visiting this fun city again. More...

Piccolo, small. Small place and small dishes! We wish that our server had been more “helpful”, when we ordered the “1/2 entrees, having never been here, a good server would have bother to inform us that the 1/2 portions were tiny. The full portions were small (the table next to us got the same dishes in fullPortions and they were small), the pasta dishes were delicious! We each ordered a half portion of the Cavoletti and the Stracianatti, both were very, very good. We ordered a second 1/2 portion of the Stracianatti, it was so good. The desserts were delicious and small. The wine by the glass is pricey! So many local eateries like this one have great food, but just don’t spend enough time training the wait staff. More...

This place was FANTASTIC!!! The place is on the smaller side I suggest making a reservation if possible because it definitely packed up quickly which seems to be the norm in portland. We sat down at a small table for 2 and the waitress come over to take our drink order. We got 2 glasses of red - it was Perfecto The environment is nice we kept trying to figure out if it was at one time an old apartment because it had that feel. They did bring out bread with oil( oil needed SandP it was just EVoo but good in itself) They take the entire order at once then space out the serving which i thoroughly enjoyed because there was no waiting around to order. The food was brought it in great timing and space. We started with the Muscles appetizer: we come from a seafood town and eat them often and these were SO good. The Garlic sauce in the bottom  was Soooo flavorful. I got the gnocchi with prosciutto and peas...TO DIE FOR!!! It was pan seared .... crispy on the out side and soft in the middle it really was cooked perfectly.  It had Grated cheese also! My husband got the North End with scallops with red sauce... he said pasta was fresh and delicious. The scallops were cooked perfectly and Red sauce had great taste but he did say it was a tad to much sauce but he enjoyed it very much nonetheless. ( that's probably a personal preference bc i love allll the sauce) It wasn't too loud for a little place you could definitely have a nice conversation and dinner. We will definitely come back next time in Portland the price to quality of food was Mind-blowing whoever is running this establishment is doing it VERY right!! More...

My wife and I enjoyed the Chef's special menu along with three other couples this evening.  Wow, what a terrific dining experience.  The chef served us six courses and I enjoyed his selected wine with each dish.  The food was excellent and the chef provided a brief overview as each course was served.  My wife and I throughly enjoyed the experience and hope to have the opportunity to visit Portland and partake in the chef's special dinner on Sunday Evening again in the near future.  The pig's head was served with smoky carrots and was truly amazing. The perfect Italian dinner! Got a bottle of chianti. The server let me sample the two wines I was deciding between. Then I had the cheese plate appetizer; perfect amount of cheese & toast. I was by myself, but you could easily split this with another person. Then I took the server's recommendation and had the lamb cavatelli; yummy notes of orange in the sauce. I got the smaller size order; it did not look like a lot but was just right to follow the app. Also had room for dessert. I got the cherry sorbetto doused in Disaronno. Serious yum. Again not a huge portion, but just right. Finished with a coffee. All the flavors were lovely, plus I had an intimate seat next to the window to people watch. The restaurant is adorable and cozy. Had some of the most incredibly tasting food ever. Bone marrow with oxtail stole the show. And I dont typically like lamb, but the lamb neck ragu was on point. The staff was very considerate, called to ask if we minded being in the very small resturant with a large party. While we didnt mind it was still nice to ask. What an adorable restaurant. Their theme is a beautiful blue and porcelain flying pigs. The staff does a great job of making you feel comfortable. The restaurant is small and intimate with small tables and a large kitchen bar. I split a bottle of the Verona wine which was beautiful and light. We shared the bolognese which had good flavor and the lamb neck cavatelli. Between the two Id definitely recommend the cavatelli pasta. Both were homemade but the cavatelli just had more interesting flavors. Chaval's sister restaurant did not disappoint. The chocolate & cherry dessert situation (that I can't remember the name of) was epic. Homemade pasta was cooked to perfection. Heirloom tomatoes were so fresh! I ordered the Bluefin Tuna special and OH MAN-THIS WAS FANTASTIC. If it's available the night you go, order it. Location is very small, which I loved. I made this reservation for my husband's bday while visiting Portland. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! They also have a second restaurant called Chaval (which I also wrote a review for). When we first walked in, it was dark, romantic, an upscale atmosphere. I was super excited that we were there. First impressions are always the best impressions! We ordered a few glasses of wine, the Melanzane (eggplant) for an appetizer which was super tasty and delicate! My husband had the Bistecca and I ordered the Pasta Fatta in Casa dish, both were flavorful and absolutely delicious! They put a candle in the dessert we ordered for my husband's bday, a great touch.
