Our Berkley based family just hosted a funeral luncheon at Picano's (3775 Rochester between 16 and 17 Mile) on Troy for our deceased family member. We chose Picano's due to our family's Italian heritage, its positive recommendations and close proximity to White Chapel Cemetery.We were not disappointed! Great food & service!!The food (we chose family style) was excellent and generous. This is an authentic traditional Italian restaurant with all the great dishes plus ones that are different to try. All dishes are nicely prepared and very generous portions as well. We started with warm buttered rolls and a bean salad. The fried calamari with peppers was very good. Not peppery but citrusy and very tender. All entrees gone with soup or salad. We all ordered salad and the blue cheese dressing was really delicious. Everything is homemade and wonderful! We then had huge veal chop that took up over half the plate and cooked to perfection, tender steak and chicken parmigiana. We also had sides of pasta with the sauce that almost tasted like my grandmas and fettuccine Alfredo which was creamy and very light. We were so full so we didn't get desert. They also have live entertainment of a guy playing keyboards and singing old favorites. The owner is super nice and comes around to be sure you are enjoying your meal service. I'm glad we tried this place vs. the commercialized Italian places in the area. If you are looking for authentic old world Italian and homemade then this is the place! This past weekend, we help a surprise party for my grandma's 90th birthday here.  We had a party of roughly 40 people and were in one of the rooms near the back.  The staff was extremely polite, helpful, and accommodating and everyone had an excellent time!  Their assistance with helping with the surprise portion was second to none.  Everyone was in on the act.We had two types of pasta, chicken pastina soup, salad, veal, and breaded chicken which was all excellent.  Excellent wine selection and as any good Italian restaurant should....amazing bread!Highly recommended for small to midsize events.  At the end, my grandma said it was one of the best birthdays she has ever had! I was extremely impressed right from my initial phone call to inquire about hosting an event at this fabulous restaurant. My event was held today and I only have wonderful things to say about my entire experience . Everyone was friendly, courteous and went out of their way to make sure my event was a success. The food was absolutely delicious and they were able to accommodate a last minute request due to a dietary restriction of one of my guests. Even my 8 year old niece commented on how friendly everyone was and how readily the staff fulfilled any requests. Came here for a wedding shower on a Sunday afternoon. Restaurant is right off Rochester Rd and easy to find. Old school Italian is the best was to describe Picano's. Parking is easy and plentiful. I cannot speak on the restaurant side but only the banquet room. The banquet room felt small but there were four long rectangular tables which I think made the room cramped. However, the room was bright and airy. The service was great, especially for so many guests. One staff member was filling waters, others were taking orders, and others were cleaning the tables. Bathrooms are close to the banquet room and are clean/modern.Food was very good and is everything an old school Italian restaurant should taste like. Good pasta, sauce, and chicken. I've been here multiple times and have never had a bad experience. Just recently I've been with two large groups and the service and food were both great. My parents were coming up from Georgia for the weekend, and it was my fathers birthday. I was able to get a table for 15 a few days before we went. When we arrived to the establishment, Theresa greeted us and welcomed our whole group. We were seated in Jorgie's section. Upon getting our drinks and food orders in, the establishment provided a great relaxing atmosphere, that all of us could communicate with each other with no problem. My favorite local Italian restaurant. The sauce is probably the most authentic I've found in the area. Love the meat ravioli with Bolognese sauce. The best Italian food around. Pasta and meat sauce for days!!!All the food and drinks are excellent, the service is outstanding and facilities are fair(no problems with any cleanliness but decor is a bit bland/dated). My friend and I both ordered the grilled sirloin steak dinner. Starting with warm fresh rolls with seasoned olive oil to dip. I had salad, she,the minestroni soup. Both fresh, and tasty. Then they brought a small pasta. The steak and veggies were grilled to perfection!! I took home a cannoli that was stuffed when ordered. Very good also. Went there today for my fathers funeral luncheon and it was great.  The food was great, the bread was FRESH and delicious. They accommodated our party even though it was more than what we thought. I had two friends that are vegan and they accommodated that as well with no problem. There was more than enough food and they kept things running smooth. The food was delicious! I had the chicken marsala which was cooked to perfection-not overdone and dry like so many times chicken breasts can be. The salad was fresh, rolls were warm and pasta very good. Green beans were cooked just right-not still hard or too soft. Honestly this is the BEST Italian restaurant I've been so far.My husband and I went there for our wedding anniversary, as soon as we walked in you can feel the cozzines in the restaurant. It does look old but it's what gives presence to the restaurant. The service was excellent! And the prices are very affordable despite everything is home made.We ordered as appetizer the spicy calamari which I never had it spicy and it was amazing.For main course I had pasta with the Palomino Sauce and it was so flavorful and creamy.I had a house salad also and the dressing was also very good. We just had my granddaughter’s communion party Saturday, and this being about the 7th time that we’ve had Picanos’s catered for my family. Teresa who oversee’s the catering is amazing. She doesn’t miss one detail, from help planning the menu, which the food is amazing, Teresa and her waitress Annette help’s with delivery, set up , brings her own linens for the buffet which matched my color theme,refills and helping my guests with their food and and once dinner is done they take care of removing and putting away my leftovers.
