What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
The secret ? That's a good question but really a simple answer for me. I believe the best photographs you will take of a couple or individual is one where they look natural, they are relaxed and enjoying the moment. The time spent with their loved ones (if at a wedding) is precious and they will probably not want a camera put into their face ever second of the day. In formal shots whether of a wedding or maybe a business environment it is paramount to be in charge of the photoshoot but also flexible to any changes that might occur or be requested.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
The most important question is how they want to be portrayed. If it is a business or product shoot what do they want the outcome to be ? For a wedding it is similar - do the couple want lots of formal shots or a more relaxed, photojournalistic type of day ? It is paramount that all the people involved in the project are aware of the outcome needed and also time and financial constraints.
What do you love most about your job?
I love the fact that I am able to work with clients, especially in my wedding photography that enjoy and appreciate the way I work. I am able to relate to all ages and understand their needs during what can be a long day. I am able to be flexible to any given situation whether it is dealing with difficult weather or lighting situations. My favourite part of my job is being able to give people amazing value for money - I am often told off for being too cheap ! However I would rather a couple have amazing photographs of their wedding even if they are on a budget rather than have to 'make do' with 'Uncle Bob' and his snapshot camera :) I find this so satisfying and it's not all about making lots of money for me.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I must admit I fell into my photography business -I won't lie to you :) Photography has been a hobby to me since I was a teenager (yes I remember film) however in 2012 I was asked at the last minute to photograph a friends Son's wedding - their photographer had let them down with only a few weeks to go. I must admit I was scared and asked to sleep on it. The next day I said YES as I couldn't imagine not helping them. The day of the wedding in Swansea was amazing. The temperature was over 30 degrees and I ended up with some lovely photographs for them. Since then I have expanded the business and enjoy every wedding I do as every one is special in its own way.
Why should our clients choose you?
I treat every photoshoot or wedding as a very important time. I do not follow a script or expect any one of them to be the same. I do plan what I will do, with a vast amount of input from my clients, however this can alter at a moments notice if circumstances change - most weddings have a little surprise for me which keeps me on my toes. I am really known for thinking on my feet and making a shot or seeing something happen and clicking the camera. My clients often forget I am taking their photograph and are shocked to see some of the images I have taken when they receive them. I love to work with both youngsters and the not so young and treat them as I would wish my own family to be treated and respect their needs during the day. My website shows images from only real weddings and if you take a look I am sure you will see I am able to capture both atmosphere and emotion.
