I can't say enough good things about Carl and Photo Booth Studios. Carl scanned and made beautiful prints of photos of seven generations of women in my family. He handled the photos with such great care and attention (the photos are all mounted in an old frame and some are from the 19th century). He made great suggestions for how to handle the background and lettering on the photos, and the prints turned out perfectly. Carl embodies the Maplewood community ethos of helping neighbors out and I am eternally grateful for his help. When my Dad passed away, we went through hundreds of photos looking for one to blow up for display at the church. We had no good shots of Dad on his own, but a nice one of me and Dad at my wedding if I could be cut out of the picture. I left a message explaining the situation on Carl's answering machine and he phones back within minutes even through we had no prior relationship. He was able to crop me out of the picture and produce a high quality, large photo of Dad within hours. Cannot say how much that meant to all of us. What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Just relax! Have a glass of wine before your shoot. It should be fun and easy. Not stressful.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What will these be used for? That to me is the most important question. Depending on the answer I'll adjust my way of shooting. If we're doing a family portrait, I may ask where their favorite local spot is, and do it there. If it's a head shot, I'll want to know their acting style or to see samples of their past shots. I always try to keep the conversation going during a shoot. It's not always easy, but it does relax everyone.
What do you love most about your job?
Meeting new families and seeing how different everyone around town is. The requests are interesting. Some good, some not bad. It's keeping me on my toes and I'm learning something new every day.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I've always wanted to open my own business. I'm finally in a place in my life where I can. I promise to make this work.
Why should our clients choose you?
Clients should choose me because I provide the total package. A photo shoot, retouching, and printing. I do it all in my studio, no farming out to photo labs. Unless it's a profile pic, of course, your photo shoot can and should be done outside of the studio. I was trained and mastered in photography, retouching, and printing. I'm confident in my ability to make you happy.
