The 1-2-1 DSLR Photography course with Trevor is absolutely fantastic!. As a complete beginner and utter numpty when it comes to things like this I was a little worried, but Trevor explained everything so clearly and patiently. I participated on one of their Studio Workshop days and had a wonderful time! I've not been in many studios, but this one was superb - with large open, clean, tidy spaces and all the equipment you could ever need (well, I'd ever need anyway).

The workshop was from 10am until 5pm, and although the maximum number of participants is typically six, today there was just me and two others - which was a lot more fun, and allowed co-owner Trev to tailor the workshop to just us.

We spent the first hour or so getting to know each other and Trev went over some basic principles about lighting and model photography so that we had a good theoretical grounding before we got started. This allowed co-owner Steph, who is an accomplished MUA, to get our model Heather May Corvid ready! A note on this; if you're thinking about saving some cash by letting your models do their own makeup and styling - don't, it's SO worth the extra money! Steph did a fantastic job with Heather, who looked absolutely superb and this shone through in the photos we all ended up with!

Trev's enthusiasm for the subject matter was infectious! He took us through all the basic setups, showing us how to light for Butterfly, Loop, Rembrandt, HighKey, Backlighting and more - first showing us how to metre for light, positioning etc... and then getting us to do it ourselves. We all got plenty of time shooting with Heather after each setup, which not only resulted in some awesome shots, but is also a lasting reminder of the different results you can create with these lighting setups.

If you're new to studio photography like I am, and perhaps a bit daunted by it all - I highly recommend giving this workshop a go! I'll definitely be returning to Phlash Worx in the future!

An excellent studio to hire, would recommend to anyone. Fantastic facility with all the equipment you could want or need included in the, very reasonable, rental cost. The studio is versatile and can accommodate a variety of different setups. The facilities for clients and models are excellent and the owners, Trev and Steph, are absolutely lovely, always helpful and happy to provide advice when needed. What a great day, i wanted to learn more about lighting in a studio this is a great studio plenty of room and equipment for you to play with.
Both steph and trevor made us feel really welcome putting us at ease ready for a long day.
i learnt everything i went for and was able to make some adjustments to my little studio at home based on what i had learnt at phlash. The makeup by steph was fantastic on the model,so i will be booking my daughter in for a makeup course after christmas. More...

Recently attended the studio lighting workshop run by Trevor. The day was great and the atmosphere very friendly and relaxed. The teaching was well paced and communicated with all concepts covered and questions fielded. I went from no experience in a studio to fully understanding the various lighting options and the technical sides to working with it. I just need to get a composition mantra going. Had a fabulous mum-to-be (and toddler) shoot with Trev and Steph today! They were both really professional and friendly and managed to put me at complete ease. The make up looked amazing and they came up with loads of ideas as well as embracing my own.

What a perfect & well equipped space to hire for your shoots. I needed a studio to get two back to back shoots completed where I had one model in makeup (body paint & glitter) for a couple of hours while I was shooting a concept with another. I have used the studio many times and have always been pleased with the facilities and the welcome. Stephanie is a great make up artist, with very reasonable prices. Trevor is a very helpful photographer and a great teacher, and very knowledgeable about getting the best lighting setups and post production. I have been on one to one training with him and recently completed a photoshop course which has transformed my use of photoshop and post production.

I would give Phlash Worxs ten stars out of five if I could. More...
