Stephanie Mills; The O' Jays; Doug E Fresh & Lionel Richie were the best bet performances. Richey Smiley is always a great host. Continue to keep the theme just add more jazz artist to the lineup. I liked Teddy Riley's performance however I would have enjoyed it more at an event more geared to R&R/Hip-Hop type them. For me Brandy should have been on Saturday night's lineup & Stephanie Mills should have been on Sunday before the O'Jays. More...

2019 jazz in the Gardens was great the guy that was wearing a red platinum pants with no shirt was horrible he was either high or something should’ve never came out on the stage It’s sad people pay their hard-earned money to see a great show and enjoy them selves but when you have entertainment that come out on the stage in their high somebody should take notice of that

It’s a great festival to experience whether general admission or platinum. The performer line-ups have been great. My one and only issue is that each year it never fails that there are sound issues that impact the performances.

This was my 4 year attending JITG enjoyed most of the event even though Chaka was terrible. Hope she will be ok. Who the heck booked Trick Daddy this is supposed to be JAZZ not a foul mouth person on Sunday evening.
Smokey, Anita, Fantasia and Trombone Shorty did excellent. Again they are not Jazz artists. The band that performed during the change set was great the dancers full of energy. I will check the lineup for next yr and if I don’t see more jazz artists I will not attend.
The sound system and Jumbotron was fantastic big improvement from yrs past.
All in I had a good time

This was my first time attending and overall I was impressed. The acts were good, with the exception of Chaka Khan, the sound was good, and most acts had ample stage time (except Avery Sunshine which I was mad about). Anita Baker, hands down, was the the BEST performer of the weekend. There were some hiccups, however. The lines for the food were ridiculous and when I finally got my chicken it was bland. The $5 wrist band for access to the "nice" bathrooms were pointless because the lines to use them were so long that people ended up using the port-a-potties. And the seats were entirely too close together. But overall I was impressed and would attend more concerts in the future if the opportunity presented. More...

The name needs to be changed because there was very little jazz. However, the Jazz artist that were there, were great. I walked out on Chaka Khan's performance, she looked great, but sounded horrible. Fantasia recycled the same show and outfit she has done before, but she was decent. Smokey and Joe were pretty good, Walter Beasly, Avery sunshine and pieces of a dream were wonderful. I will never understand why Trick Daddy ( we walked out on his performance) was on the same bill with the classy Ms. Anita Baker. That woman threw down!!!! I have heard rumors that she's not very nice in person but the way she interacted with that young lady in the audience who had a picture of her was so heartwarming. Her performance was absolutely incredible. She sounded and looked so good. More...

18 August 2018

I have never been to such a warm (friendly), fun and safe-feeling concert in a large outdoor venue where liquor is served all day. I challenge fellow Northerners to say otherwise. While it’s common to experience an event with two out of that list of descriptors, you never get all five together.

I understand the high ticket pricing since attending. It’s actually worth it just for the atmosphere. As the city is a beneficiary, in part, I could recommend a way to beef up revenue further: more bar staff, more facilities (toilet trailers), and more food vendors. The reason is that the demand far outweighs the available resources. The lines are so, so long. With pricing this high (it’s $5 cash to use a trailer toilet instead of a port-o-john, for example) then faster, more efficient service would make much more sense for everybody involved.

I saw people wait for a half hour in the bar line to buy a $5 cup of ice. First of all, this is inhumane; ice and water (also $5) are necessities in the heat and people are dancing. When somebody really needs something you have to think about ease of access. So, offering these in the same line as a full bar is silly. Bar orders take way more time, so long as there is a selection. There should be an ice and water express lane and it should cost less. More would sell. Of course they should be available at a full bar too, but I saw some obviously dehydrated people waiting too long for a very simple order.

The ample talky bits between acts was far too long to cover for break down and set up/run crews. I was thinking: I guess they are giving so much extra time because they want people to be able to get through the service lines between acts? But the DJs work better than the sustained forced stretching, even though the mc was fun.

Sound great. Jumbotrons great. Crowd extremely lovely. Talent supreme.

I've enjoyed being entertained at the Jazz In The Gardens Music Festival for the last few years, and I really like mingling in the "upscale tropical" atmosphere with friends and the people that attend the event. I would like to make a few suggestions, if I may: Parking: As already stated in the previous reviews about the price, it would be nice to pay one flat fee if you attend both days of the event, instead of paying twice. Also, can they maybe consider a shuttle service from the parking lot to the gates of the event as well? All the surrounding parking lots are a distance from the venue, and it takes time to walk from where you are parked to the entrance.****The Artists Lineup: Since this is a 3-day event, why not feature some smaller entertainment during the Pre-Party on Friday night (like they did 3 years ago)? It gets people hyped for the weekend festival. On Saturdays, they should keep the Jazz and/or Neo-Soul artists at the beginning or middle of the lineup, then feature R&B upbeat artists at the latter part of Saturday evening. On Sundays, keep the Gospel artists first (like they did this year), only upbeat R&B artists in the middle, and then have the Old School Hip Hop artists last to close it out on Sunday's lineup. If you need any ideas on the Old School Hip Hop entertainment (Salt-N-Pepa, Ice Cube, hello?), I would be happy to help. :-) P.S. Please feature more Old School bands, such as Ohio Players, Parliment Funkadelic, & Cameo. More...

Jazz in the Gardens was good, this is my 10th time however, the parking price was to expensive!!! A bottle of water or soda for $4.00 is a bit to much when the vendors or getting it so very cheap. The entertainment should have all the well known artists at the end. Bring in artists that everyone listens to on a regular basis such as Tyrese, Mary J, Kem etc. Will return next year but the entertainment this year was a little boring. More...

I am a frequent J.I.T.G. attendee and the experience has always been amazing! Parking could be a little less expensive and maybe there could be a perk or two for the Platinum seats like a free drink, a complimentary meal, or a photo op with one of the celebrity performers. Also, the seating is very, very uncomfortable; especially when you're sitting so close to your neighbors. Although I was very pleased with the lineup, it would be helpful to know who will be performing a month prior to when tickets go on sale. #platinumwithgoodcredit More...

Traveled from Orlando with my girls to hang for the weekend. This was my first Jazz Fest. I really enjoyed myself. I only took issue with two things: $4 for bottled water? Really? if you aren't allowing me to bring my own then don't make it unaffordable. That's just rude. I'm reading comments and wondering WTH...the main artist are announced when the tickets go on sale. It's a music festival, supposed to be Jazz at that, however, JITG gives us more of a variety. I knew when I heard the line up this year, the majority of "Miamians" will be complaining. It's a certain class of Miami folks that would appreciate Herbie Handcock, Esperalda Spalding, JITG All Stars, The Roots, etc.....the Miami crowd is not into real jazz and neo soul like up north or on the West Coast....with that being said, the quality of artists I just named, how in the heck could the ticket prices be any cheaper......ticket prices are GREAT!!! Parking, oh well this is Miami and it's Hard Rock Stadium, come on people the prices are the same game day and no different going to the AAA or the JL Knight for an event. Car pool and share the cost. The food prices...no different than going to a Food and Wine Festival, the Seafood Festival, Food Truck Invasions and hell even the Youth Fair.... I do agree that the line up order could have had a better flow on both days...but Jill Scott was the Head liner on Saturday so she was expected to be last up... The weed smoking is out of control, one of the reasons I refuse to sit in General Admission. Also reasons why others choose to sit back there. The DJs always do an awesome job with the crowd, shout out to DJ Oli and Big Man Kelly our locals.... I think they should invite Wanda Smith from Atlanta 103 station to host next year, she is from Miami and funny as hell... Overall the JITG was great!!!! It's attracting people from all over the world and this year it was probably more visitors than locals and that's cool. It helps the economy better, visitors come and spend more money. Isn't that the real reason behind the Music Festival in the first place. To raise money for the city.......... More...

I have been attending Jazz In the Gardens for the last 8 years. I'm an event promoter here in Tampa and I constantly promoted this event for FREE on my 3 social media pages. I'm only asking for VIP MEDIA ACCESS and a parking pass for 2-Days. After paying $25 to park on Day 2, was a little upset. Overall GREAT SHOW, WONDERFUL WEATHER AND GROWN FOLKS FUN. More...

Our first time and didn't know what to expect. We flew in and didn't know to bring chairs and coolers could be brought in for lawn seats. We lucked up and sat at a table near the food booths and there was a big screen back there. The sound was great, Ricky Smiley was hilarious and the acts were phenomenal. I haven't danced that long in years. More...

I had a Wonderful time both nights as always because that's what I come to do however if your going to raise the price on the event don't cut us short on the entertainment I have attended All 12 years and we have always been allowed to party way into the night for the Saturday show I didn't understand why Jill Scott's session was cut short. I also feel like since we have such a mix of cultures that attend this event the artists should reflex that especially including our island entertainers. Also I noticed that the Hard Rock included additional security which was worse than before the ones of us who splurge to sit in the Platinum seating area should not have to worry about people coming from other areas standing in front of us. Overall All of the artists were Great. Please remind the DJ that we like line dancing SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!! More...

Made the annual voyage this year from Indianapolis. This has been a girls weekend for me and my girl friend for years. Love the atmosphere, food and all the venders. Lineup was awesome. My problem is the price for parking $25 and other items like water and drinks. I don't mind paying money for entertainment etc. I would like to see a report or give out numbers as to how much money came in for the 2017 year during the 2018 JITG. Also give information about attendance. I'm curious as to how many people showed up for event. See you in 2018. #PlatiniumStatusWithGoodCredit #CashMeInTheGardenHowAboutDat More...

I had a really great time, my sister and my cousins have made it our annual event. All the artist were great, but my favorite artist was Andra Day and Esparanza Spaulding they were fabulous. It could be that there were new to my experience in their genre of music. I felt though refreshments like water for $5 and a simple bag of peanuts was ridiculous. Parking was too much even for general admission. For both night was a bit much...I hope to attend next year, but overall it's a great time! More...

Thoroughly enjoyed the all the acts this year only two issues Herbie Hancock probably should have been moved up as well as the food vendors not the best this year and way overpriced not as much selection as usual. Over all had an awesome time!

I get every year that the Talent is going to be all over the place to please everyone. But as others have stated the fact that if you're coming there for two days and you have to spend $50 on parking that does take away from your money you want to spend with the venue and a different entrepreneurs that you allowed to sell certain items inside. Being that it was $20 the last couple years and that is even steep. More...

Great job I had a BLAST! Mayor Gilbert Oliver & the City Commissioners I especially enjoyed the highlights where the city showcased of its accomplishments in the past year kudos to Mayor Gilbert in the City Commissioners for really showing what City Miami Gardens has the offer. Ricky Smiley and the DJ did really really well this year entertaining the crowd in between performances and hats off for honoring Betty Wright, Carol City Seior high school state championship football team and the cast of Moonlight, Jaden Piner, Alex Halbert the principle of Norland Elementary school and the drama teacher. My congratulations goes out to circle of one marketing team, all of the staff and security who helped to put incident free event. Herbie Hancock needed to come in a little earlier, and close out the show with Robin Thicke. Sunday's lineup was fantastic perfect wouldn't change a thing. Congratulations , JOB WELL DONE! More...

This my first JITG and I enjoyed it tremendously. But I have to agree with everyone parking was expensive and the drink and food vendors were way overpriced for the portion size of food that was given. The lineups for the music could have been different. I loved the paid bathrooms because they were clean and sanitary. I also felt that security should have been more strict on who they allowed in the reserved and prime seating area because it was hard to see with others coming in at there own pleasure from other areas. I will definitely come back next year though!! But please consider the changes. More...
