What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
A more productive question would be:
What's the secret to making a successful photo session.... for great photos will come from a successful photo session.
Here's my answer. (off the top of my head)
"Understanding the client's need and purpose for the photography, bringing the production tools and skills to meet the challenges of the photo shoot, giving the client feedback so they have a great shoot experience, making it easy for the client to view and select the best images for their needs, provide post shoot retouching to make the selected images great."
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Who are your customers you're trying to reach?
What is the mood or feel of the images you're needing.
Are you rebranding or staying consistant to your previous look.
What media do you plan to use the images in.
Can you show me a few images online that you like and some you DON"T like.
Do you mind that in portrait retouching, I make you look younger, thinner and nicer looking? :-)
What do you love most about your job?
The people who are my long time repeat clients... My creative colleagues... The bay area with it's amazing talented, intelligent and interesting folk... Creative event planners who I love working with... The great educational institutions here that are the nexus of many photo projects I've had the pleasure to shoot, such as portraits of newly minted young doctors at UCSF, The World Education Conference at UC Berkeley, visiting VIP lectures at Stanford, and countless seminars I've photographed over the last 30 years at many lovely hotels. The photo workshops I taught... I enjoy everything about the work I do...
What inspired you to start your own business?
It's a great story! Funny... a little sad and quite ironic. I'll tell you over cocktails sometime.
Why should our clients choose you?
36 years experience has allowed me to handle nearly all photo assignments. I've shot interiors for trade journals and interior designers, Travel and Panoramas for education projects funded by the National Science Foundation, Public Relations photo projects for (arguably) the largest PR firm in america: Hill & Knowlton, cover Northern California events for the Israeli Consolate and AJC, photograph artworks for the Oakland Museum-where my wedding work is in their permanent collection (4 large prints purchased for the show in 2003, WEDDINGS: CALIFORNIA STYLE), I am often referred to clients by concierges at San francisco best hotels for Business portraits, event coverage and family pictures. I'm friendly, funny and comfortable with all people. Dogs really like me.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
Yes. These days if you send me the products I can provide the photography, and online gallery for viewing/selecting and after retouching the selected images... You can download the finals from that gallery.
I take Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Paypal and probably some others by time you read this.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
No in-studio visits in 2020,2021, 2022
Now i think a glass of wine or a cocktail should sterilize enough virus germs to lower the risk to acceptable levels!
