Think I found one of my new favorite pizza spots in Philly! Wife and I enjoyed everything about our visit today.The staff was very courteous and made us feel at home in this family-owned restaurant. We loved seeing the local and celebrity signed photos, dating back to 1980 when this shop opened up. They've got plenty of Philly school and sports memorabilia, and they offer local brews on tap. If you're in the mood for something other than what's on tap (~$3-4), they've got fully stocked fridges with all kinds of non-alcoholic options, plus national beer and wine too!For the meal, we created our own large pizza (~$15 for two toppings). I've been here a couple of times and it's definitely a great place to go to grab some pizza. The waiters and chefs get things done fast so you can get your order quickly. When I come visit Philadelphia, we always go to Pete's famous. And if you've been walking around for awhile, it's nice to walk into the warm welcoming atmosphere. Best pizza on Friday but not so great today! How is that possible?  On Friday the sauce cheese to crust ratio was sublime, this evening the cheese is oily, gross and salty and the sauce is not delicious. What happened I wasn't foolish enough to order on a Monday eve but Tuesday eve seemed like a safe bet to order it. Five stars for Friday but two today but the delivery guys are always great. I live in Rittenhouse square. Needed to find a place that delivers pizza at 10 on a Sunday night. I asked Google and they gave me Pete's. I had never ordered there before so I was taking a shot in the dark. I ordered a small pizza with sausage and peppers. A Cheesesteak with extra American cheese and fried onions, and  an order of mozzarella sticks. Not only was the food delivered quickly, I noticed right away while sticking my hand into the bag and holding the bottom of the pizza box, that it was all piping hot. They were two for two before I even took a bite. When I started eating the food it was extremely delicious. I grew up way downtown, and I know what a good cheesesteak, and pizza should taste like. This was a good pie and a good steak. if you order from this place you will not be disappointed. The food was delicious. The guy on the phone took my order quick. The driver was friendly and met me in the lobby. I would probably not consider ordering pizza from anywhere else around here after having this one. as if that wasn't enough the icing on the cake was that they had the real mozzarella sticks. Lady Matilda, Horseface Bob, and I were visiting the Franklin Institute mainly for pleasure, but also on a bit of unfinished business.  We had to meet a druid about a forest and sell a small enchantment to one of the curators of the institute.  Around lunchtime, we had the option of eating overpriced cafeteria food among a hundred sugar-hopped camp kids maintaining about 85 decibels in the Institute or striking out for something better.You can throw a dart at a map of Philadelphia and have a solid chance of hitting a pizza place.  We happened to find a great one.Oh, Pete's Famous Pizza.  We were so glad to find you.  A short walk from the Institute you'll find a small shop decorated with photos of the famous people who visited famous Pete.  There wasn't a lot of room and the place was busy at noon with delivery drivers slipping in and out with one-person orders and stacks of pies.  Our server noticed there wasn't a place for the three of us to sit and asked a pair of people waiting for take out to give us the booth.  Immediate points for taking care of us.We got the oversized pie, just cheese for a ridiculously good price.  Everyone was friendly and efficient. They had to be to keep such a busy production running in such a small dining space.  The pie...a cheese pizza is such a simple food but also so easy to screw up.  It is harder to put a signature of such a dish to make it stand out over so many variations, but this was a thick, cracker crust that didn't come laden with grease and had that perfect mix of tangy tomato sauce and salty, gooey cheese.  It didn't arrive with that "burn the top of the mouth" heat.  It was perfect to dig into and SO good.   It was a big pie but it all disappeared.And then, the chocolate chip cookies.  Thick like muffin tops and big, freshly made and - Archmage Delfus says it isn't right to try and explain magic because it undersells the experience.  So I won't.  If you go, get the cookies.  I wish we had a chance or the forethought to try the cheesesteak or any of the other offerings, but we'll be back.
