Puc gave my dog (And our family) the resources she needed to become a better dog. Before we rescued Dixi She had been isolated and did not know how to interact with other dogs. PUC meets the dog where they are and gives you a clear path. In the year and a half we have been coming, Dixi has grown and has many dog friends. We adopted Brink from BARCS in September of 2017. We joined Petucation in February of 2018 after being asked not to return from another company’s basic obedient class. While that experience was pretty embarrassing, I am glad it lead us to Petucation. Brink is a two year old Pit mix who came to us with severe anxiety issues. Behaviors included separation anxiety from anyone (even strangers) leaving him, reactivity towards other animals, being a frustrated greeter, and lack of basic obedient skills. Throughout the past year with On-Site Rehab (OSR) and board and train sessions, Brink has shown improvement in all areas. Savannah and the rest of the team have put in a lot of work with him and it shows. He no longer has accidents in the crate when we leave, as opposed to soiled torn-up blankets. He knows sit, place, and come like a pro!. He even is able to be in a room full of dogs and not put on such a whining or screaming production. We originally thought all of this behavior was due to lack of training and him being so young. However, after Savannah’s evaluation, she realized it was due to anxiety. The best tool Petucation has given us is the ability to understand Brink more. We learned that it may not always be Brink ignoring us, but more of a mental obstacle as well. Also, we got a little training too! If you feel frustrated, hopeless, embarrassed, or need more confidence in handling, definitely give Petucation a chance. More...

We love PuC and are so grateful we found them! We rescued a 1 year old cocker spaniel, Charlie, knowing he had some issues with other dogs but were totally lost on what to do about it! He is also young so knew he needed to get out and about. When you live in Baltimore city, you encounter dogs every time you leave the house plus we have another dog at home. Right away, PuC helped us understand life through our pups eyes and how he may be feeling! After only a few on site rehab sessions we noticed a huge difference in Charlie’s behavior! Previously if he saw a dog across the park, he would start to bark, lunge and growl and now we can walk past dogs without a reaction. He’s still working on greeting and meeting new dogs but at PuC he has the chance to do this with amazing control dogs and in a safe environment with the staff there. I’m a very cautious dog mom but trusted the PuC staff right away with Charlie and we bring our other dog there now too. His relationship with our other dog has also changed so much for the better! PetUCation is truly a special place, and we are SO thankful we found it. Prior to moving to the area(ish), we had done some critical obedience training after rescuing our pup, but he still had a long way to go and we wanted to continue working on his skills and specifically reactivity. Kona is very barrier reactive and sometimes leash reactive (and scary looking when he does), and lacks in some social skills though he is a big mushy sweetheart when he is comfortable. When I discovered PUC, I knew this would be the perfect place for Kona: training and daycare in one. We had been trying to work on his reactivity and socialization for awhile, but finding the proper situations was proving difficult; PUC is setup to help dogs like that succeed in safe situations. We started with the On Site Rehab training, and are progressing to daycare. Our past trainers have focused on teaching the humans how to act, but PUC takes it a step further in helping your pup to learn how to make good decisions and be comfortable. We love that PUC takes in some of the more challenging dogs and works with them in a structured social setting, which is not common. I wish we lived closer so we could go more often and participate in some of the other classes offered, but it is absolutely worth the trek. The trainers are amazing - they take the time to know your dog and use techniques that work for them and go at their pace. Having a larger reactive dog is hard, but we are SO happy with all the progress Kona has been making - he is so much better and confident/calm in public, he has made more progress in just a couple months than in the year we've had him before. We also love that he is able to make buddies and be part of a pack. He has even improved immensely with his intact aggression, which is something we had chalked up to never being able to do. PUC is absolutely worth the investment for you and your pup, good training is so important for a confident and happy life for both. Great trainers, great community. More...

He surprised me from class one by not only keeping his cool, but actually making huge leaps in his abilities. We still have work to do, but the confidence he has gained through the class and his days at daycare is beyond measure. Class one I brought a timid dog that just wanted to hide behind my legs. We had our last class last night and he, while still on the timid side, rocked through all the challenges presented to him. When we adopted Amelia from BARCS in Sept 2011, we knew we had found a good, smart dog with a big heart and no shortage of baggage. Adoring and enthusiastic but a little insecure and in need of consistent, patient leadership, we initially mistook some of Amelia's on-leash reactivity for aggression in the proximity of other dogs. At the sight of nearly any dog at seemingly any range, Amelia would become incredibly vocal and completely oblivious to her well-intentioned but and flustered owners. We started working with Alma from Pet-U-Cation in hopes of primarily addressing her on-leash reactivity, but we quickly learned of how much our pup and ourselves were capable.

Alma helped us recognize and respond to more Amelia's subtle body language, completely re-boot her confidence outside on-leash, hone her focus and intelligence with games and drills, all the while building our confidence as leaders. These skills were reinforced at "Pack Walks" and "Socialization Class" in Patterson Park (led by Savannah, Alma and the Pet-U-Cation crew), where Amelia had the opportunity to drill and walk with other dogs of all sizes, shapes, and temperaments. To see the progress was beyond rewarding, and Alma, Savannah, and Pet-U-Cation continue to be a resource for us. If our dog's burgeoning vocabulary can serve as testimonial, it is worth mentioning that "Pack Walk" and "Auntie Alma" are now magic phrases in our household. Only 1 year after we brought our BARCS alumna home, we challenged Amelia (and ourselves) to become an American Kennel Club Good Canine Citizen, which involved a several-week course and a veritable doggy-gauntlet of social and obedience drills. Amelia passed with flying colors, impressing even the most incredulous parties (her owners). We credit Alma's and Savannah's guidance, accessibility, and flexibility with not only Amelia's incredible progress to a wonderful pet and solid ambassador for her breed, but our progress as patient, consistent, happy dog owners. Thank you Pet-U-Cation!

I am so glad we found Pet-U-Cation (PUC) by way of our neighborhood FB page sometime in October 2016! PUC has been an absolute blessing in our lives (all 3 pups and people too)! We started off with a series of On-Site-Rehabilitation (OSR) for our dog, Latte because we were at our wit’s end due to her constant leash reactivity and our other dog trainer suggested the prong collar but even this tool didn’t quite work! OSR at PUC helped with some behavior modification and then we enrolled her in regular daycare sessions where she is constantly learning to be a more social dog and to make right choices.

Our second dog Lea was attending a different daycare and dog training facility before PUC BUT it seems that she was never really comfortable there because her tail was always tucked whenever we view the videos or see her in posted pics! PUC is great at making my puppy Lea feel comfy. They work at her pace and her comfort zone. They don't make her socialize with a bunch of dogs that she may not be comfy with! As such, Lea is always happy and excited to come to daycare or training in this facility! This is also evidenced in the videos and pics that the warm and caring PUC folks post!

My third dog Marcel is a control dog at PUC and seems to love his job/role very much! He too enjoys attending PUC! The trainers and caregivers at PUC work on my dogs’ weaknesses and at the same time capitalize on their strengths! As an educator (of K-20), I can firmly say that what they do with my dogs is the epitome of differentiated and/or individualized instruction to help my dogs be successful at being good (if not great) dogs! Additionally, the PUC trainers and staff are extremely caring to both dogs and people. I highly recommend Pet-U-Cation Training & Rehabilitation without any reservation.

We live in Baltimore City but weren't able to find a daycare in the city that we felt would set him up for success. I've heard many people say that their dogs pick up bad habits at daycare, but PuC does the opposite! Your dog is in a controlled environment and is introduced to other, trusted, dogs in a safe manner and at a gradual rate. The trainers know all the dogs' needs and problem areas, and are well equipped to help them get through those issues, including though a rehab program. Using cages is part of what makes this control possible, and even then, the dogs are in the same room as everything else (at the current facility). There's not another dog day care around of its kind, and the drive to Catonsville is well worth it. I've recommended them to multiple friends and have made new friends through their community. We evaluated other dog training services in the area but we ultimately chose Pet-U-Cation. We selected the Advocacy Through Training (ATT) class because our dog was not well-behaved on his leash. He would become excited and pull persistently making walks frustrating for all. Prior to attending the class, we tried different leashes and harnesses but none yielded the result we desired. In addition to loose-leash walking, we also wanted to work on him greeting new people calmy, which has been a struggle for our pup.

Prior to the class, we had a phone consultation with the main instructor, Alma. It was immediately evident that she had done her homework and read our application/profile to fully understand our needs, whose diligence translated to the rest of her staff. This customized approach was so appreciated; none of the other training services we evaluated took this level of care.

As we attended ATT, we quickly learned that the class was just as beneficial for us as it was for our dog. As an owner, we needed to thoughtfully manage interactions and engage our dog’s “thinking brain,” allowing him the opportunity for success. We were taught how to identify and interpret our dog’s body language. We learned proper loose-leash walking techniques and how to correct our companion effectively. Additionally, we were provided with multiple techniques to help calm and focus our dog. All of these combined skills allow us to position our K-9 for successful, positive interactions. Our dog was exceptionally receptive to the techniques used and he learned, very quickly, how to comply with our directions.

Thanks to what we learned, we are now able to have relaxing, low-stress walks with our pup; a direct result of the Pet-U-Cation training. Our family would recommend this class to anyone that wants to better understand, respond to, and interact with their K-9 companion.
