Six months ago I started coming to Performance Strength Lab on the recommendation of a few friends that were members. I was recovering from a car accident that left me with some nagging pain and weaker than I have ever been. Joe modified the exercises for me until I regained enough strength to be able to complete them. Then four months ago, I started following a running plan he put together for me. I added a weekly yoga class with Nartaya, who is very good about modifying the poses that I couldn't do in the beginning and makes yoga fun and inclusive. After only six months, I have gained a lot of strength, feel more confident at the gym and in my running... and even was able to get a marathon PR at the end of April. The gym members are so welcoming and inclusive. Joe, Mark, Shiloh and Nartaya are great at what they do. Highly recommend this place if you want to improve, whether you are just starting out, starting over or want to get better! More...

Joe has really helped my 11 year old son with his overall athleticism in just a few months time. He now is coordinated with his running/jumping motions, and has added strength he never had. The workouts are always unique and challenging. Joe is very personable and has treated my son with the upmost class and respect. He truly is passionate about what he does. I began training at Performance Strength Lab right after graduating high school to begin my strength training for college cross country and track and field and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I worked with Joe, Mark, and Rachel through out the summer and had the best summer of strength training I had ever had. Performance Strength Lab offered a welcoming environment and I truly felt at home and knew every one supported me and wanted me to get better. I looked forward to every workout and always left feeling a better runner/athlete than I did when I walked in. I've been going to PSL for about 3 months and within only 1 month I noticed how much more stability and control I had while running, both on the roads and on the trails. Overall my strength has improved considerably in this short time. The coaches are fantastic. They pay special attention to proper form and technique, demonstrate each exercise fully, and use easy-to-understand tips/methods to ensure that the exercises are being executed correctly. The group sizes are small, allowing for specific attention to each person. I really enjoy the camaraderie found at PSL as well as the never boring and challenging workouts. More...

Performance strength labs is a unique gym focused on improving athletes as well as creating new athletes from among the dedicated people committed to showing up consistantly and taking thier fitness to another lwvel.

They're well worth their weight in gold.

I enjoy every workout; they challenge me; help me to succeed; give encouragment and love on me to push through.

PSL is the place to go for expert training, advice, and guidance. I decided to tackle my first Ironman 70.3 this year and am so thankful I had Joe/Mark to guide me through the process. You can buy a training plan for a half ironman online but that wont get you the one-on-one help they will give you. They are dedicated to making sure you are as prepared as you can be for whatever goal you are tackling, right down to course specific training, nutrition, and mental preparedness. Some of you refer to me as the healthy one or the crazy one that doesnt eat anything and puts working out before everything else. I have consistently eaten healthy (no soda, no caffeine, no processed sugars) for 2 1/2 years and worked out 4-5 days a week for 1 1/2 years. I felt like I was missing part of the puzzle because I wasn't getting the results I wanted, after a lot of hard work. A friend at the gym referred me to her nutritionist. In 4 months 1 went from roughly 27% body fat to 20% body fat, from 137.8lbs to 125lbs and lost a total of 13 inches off my entire body. This was from only my food intake changing. For those of you in the San Diego area, that need that extra push, I highly recommend Shiloh, she's professional, caring and individualizes a program just for you. I doubt anyone beats her prices (She doesn't charge enough in my opinion! ). Plus, I got these cool pictures at the end. I started lifting/working out 3-4 days a week about 4 months ago. I’ve toned up, gained strength, improved my stamina, lost a pants size and my clothes fit better. � I really noticed a difference at my last tournament; I still had some “get up and go” by the time we were done playing. � �

I may huff and puff during our finisher but I’m learning to pace myself and am proud to know I’ve worked hard to complete each task. If you can believe it, I look forward to going to the gym and get sad on rest days. �

I came to Performance Strength Lab a few months ago with a few goals in mind. One that is pretty lofty for me and has alluded me for many years. Honestly, I couldn’t even envision achieving it. Joe Beckerley helped me set a plan in motion and continues to give me the tools to build strength and improve health. It’s more than a workout. It’s nutrition, pushing away mental roadblocks, doing things physically beyond what I thought was possible, building confidence. There’s a sense of community here. Members are welcoming and cheer each other on. Athlete or not, PSL will help you be the best version of yourself. We're writing a comprehensive review for Performance Strength Lab (PSL) since we can honestly say they're everything they claim to be, and then some. Our 21-yr old son recently had an MPFL graft replacement surgery for his right knee and is currently in PT/rehab strengthening his knee. Prior to this surgical procedure, our son had been working out consistently with his trainer, Mark, on 1) strengthening his core and lower body in anticipation for joining the Marines, and 2) focusing on strengthening his right knee in preparation of his MPFL surgery to repair the overstretched ligament holding his kneecap in place. His orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist were both amazed at our son's rapid recovery as well as his strength and range of motion achieved so quickly due to the preparation and strength/flexibility training our son had done prior to his MPFL procedure. This was his second such surgery as he had the other knee done approximately two years ago. His range of motion and strength recovery time on the other knee was nowhere close to what he has experienced this time around. We couldn't thank Mark, Joe, and PSL for the work they've done with our son during his pre-surgery strength training. Our son can't wait to get back to his personalized workouts at PSL once medically cleared to return back to the gym with no restrictions. Just a month into Performance Strength Lab, I was already able to feel changes with myself physically and mentally. I fell in love with everything about fitness and wake up each day excited to work out with the coaches there. The fact that the workouts are already planned for you and someone is always watching to help you with your form and technique, makes everything a lot easier for me. As a busy college student, PSL became one of my priorities and I always made time to go early in the morning or in the afternoon right after class!
