Penel created a great relaxed atmosphere which meant that Tesco (Spangley Bungalow) didn't mind being photographed at all and thought it was all immense fun. What a nice day out. I would thoroughly recommend. And located right next door to a fantastic place to walking, off lead bouncing, pub and grub (dog friendly) couldn't have been better. Thanks Penel. An extremely belated review, but Hattie and I had a fantastic morning with Penel and came home with lots of pictures - it was hard to choose my favourite. She even managed to make Hattie look smart and poised despite her normally being a fuzzy orange blur. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and no doubt will be back again for some more non fuzzy pictures! More...

Very professional and so patient. Makes you feel so at ease and gets amazing results. Would highly recommend. I did a 500 mile round trip to work with Penel and worth every mile I'd say. 5 star.

Penel took photos of my usually 'nervous of new people and new places' dog Basil. Basil loved Penel instantly, made himself at home by having a drink (unheard of in a new place! ) liked to sit beside her. The photos are fantastic, Penel made the process of taking the photos easy and gave clear direction to both me and basil, they are a real treasure. Can't recommend highly enough. More...

My two big girls could not believe their luck the day we went to Penel's - all they had to do was sit and stay and they got treats. ..I was worried all Penel got was a blur of ears flapping and tongues lapping...but she was amazing!
I had looked for a dog photographer for years and not found one who's style I liked.
Penel captures the soul of your dog in their eyes and its very powerful.

Penel has taken many, many wonderful photos for me over the years - not only of my dogs but of my dog friendly holiday cottages, horses and sheep. She's very versatile, professional but relaxed, particularly with the dogs, getting the best out of whatever subject she is focussing (pun intended!!) on. Penel did a very special photoshoot for us some years ago of our two very different dogs -- the ultimate "Irish Brace" a Lurcher and a French Bulldog. The results are very very special to us.
So of course we knew who we wanted to do it again for a special birthday present. Three dogs this time! Each one a different challenge - our elderly lurcher, Ro, who was a 2 year old when he first met Penel. And he behaved like a 2 year old again for her. Our rescue staffie behaved like a little lady for her camera. But our son's JRT, Lola stole the show! We LOVE the results - a whole smorgasbord of precious images. More...

Penel took some fantastic photographs of my cocker spaniel, Hurley. She did everything she could to settle him into the session and as such captured the very essence of his personality. Penelope is a fantastic photographer. After viewing so many wonderful images that she had taken, I finally got round to booking a photoshoot with her. She knows exactly how to get the best out of the dogs to get the perfect shot. She immediately puts you and the dogs at ease in her lovely studio. I was blown away by the images she had taken of my 3 dogs and even more so when my prints, canvas and photo book arrived, the quality is superb. I would highly recommend her to anyone. Nearly loosing our old Weimaraner earlier this year focused me into booking a session with Penel - something I'd been meaning to do for ages and hadn't got around to. I wasn't sure how it would go as despite her age, our girl is highly strung and finds new situations stressful. Penel was brilliant at helping her to relax and very quickly had her wanting to hold beautiful poses and actually enjoying her new found skills as a model. Funnily enough, after her session with Penel, she now holds still and looks straight at my camera whenever I get it out as she loved modelling so much! The images Penel caught of my girl are so stunning and bring tears to my eyes. It's not easy to capture her more elegant side, but Penel found it and I now have the most wonderful pictures of her to treasure forever as well as some funny face ones that make us all laugh. I really can't recommend Penel highly enough,she's kind, calm and patient and a brilliant photographer with some great ideas to get beautiful original images and your four legged chum will just love working with her. Having photographs taken by Penelope Malby is an excellent experience. As well as producing beautiful images of my dogs, she was brilliant at putting them at ease and managing the shoot. She is excellent with dogs and was very patient in achieving some shots of my two very different dogs together. Both of my rescue dogs are quite nervous in their own ways but they were at ease in her studio. As well as prints for our home and gifts, she has produced stunning Christmas cards two years running. Penel is pretty much unique, she understands the dog so well she can predict the exact second to take the shot - and it's not one-size fits all - she tailor's her approach to get the most out of each dog. Love her work, love her eye. And, love the way she gets dogs to make real eye contact with the viewer....her front cover photos follow you around the shop and try to come home with you! More...

As my pup Olive approaches her first birthday, I was keen to have some professional photos taken as a lasting keepsake. I knew of Penel by name from her magazine photography and was thrilled that she was able to help.

Penel’s knowledge as a behaviourist, combined with her photography skills, set her apart in being able to capture a dog’s personality in every photo while, most importantly, putting them at their ease in the studio. Penel is fabulous company, and Olive’s portrait session was great fun as well as resulting in some wonderful shots.

It’s testament to the quality of Penel’s work that choosing my favourite photos was the biggest challenge of all, as there were so many beautiful ones. She was incredibly patient and generous with her time throughout my decision-making, and I’m delighted with the end results - two gorgeous framed prints and a stunning photo book.
