The food is greatStaff very friendly.
I went here because I needed my fix for a Rhode Island grinder (sub). Got the broccoli rabe and provolone on a hard roll. Amazing. Also took down an Italian grinder as well. While I usually hit Federal Hill for my Italian fix, I gave this guy a try because he advertises locally and I could save some time. It paid off. He sponsors a few little league and babe Ruth teams as well. The woman taking my order was great. The food was fresh, came out fast, and it was reasonably priced. It also has parking which the hill does not. Great alternative to fighting traffic and RI drivers at their worst. Enjoy Pauly's. More...
Great food at great prices! The menu is easy to follow. I will definitely be returning.
Only the best, always fresh, friendly, nothing in my book can compare, best sandwiches....
Food is delicious! Sandwiches and house made side salads are a welcome indulgence. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Absolutely love this place!!!!!!
Great little Italian Deli. They use quality ingredients. I have gotten prepared foods and sandwiches. I have not been disappointed so far. There is something for everyone.
The best Italian food I've had in quite a while
N. Daniel Masood
The girls are awesome!!
Loved it !! great variety also
I've been back a couple times and just love this place. Literally the best broccoli rabe you'll ever have. So, so good. Staff is always friendly, too, which is unfortunately rare.
Excellent food. Awesome people. Huge selection of homemade prepared food. Been going here for years.
I'm filling in across the street for work so I decided to give it a try and they are amazing. The food was awsome the service was great and the staff are very friendly. The owner walked out and introduced himself to me he was very friendly as well. I would highly recommend them. More...
Great selection . Sandwiches are plentiful.
Prices are a little high, but the food was good
Great food and service
The food is so good here it brings a tear to my eye the sun-dried tomatoes are so ridiculous they have so much flavor they are just incredible. I ordered a sandwich and I am so excited to try it! I had to write this review before even getting to that because I was so impressed with the sun-dried tomatoes. That's saying a lot because it's such a small thing but it was so delicious. Also I got the biscotti iced coffee and it is also super delicious More...
i had the broccoli rabe and provolone sandwich. what a great vegetarian option! quick friendly service with delicious food. i'd go back for sure.
Best Turkey sandwich ever!
best in town!
first time here, loved it! Will definitely be back for sure in the future
Paula Penta has the best Italian food! Their catering service is great too!
We stopped by Pauly's for the RI Food Fight. Absolutely love this place! The sandwich was amazing and the Blended Coffee is to die for!
Very good food, good prices too
Ordered my food, the owner looked me in the eyes the whole time. Gave me my good (exactly how I ordered it), then looked at my debit card to learn my name before handing it back to me. Class act with great food!
Sooooo gooood love the food here a little hectic during lunch time. Need more parking but sooo worth going there.
I come here weekly to pick up meat and other items from the deli. I have to say, Paula Pentas is underrated. Every time I call or go in, I can expect the very same service and quality of food. You don't see consistency like this often, and it's so appreciated! More...
Underrated. Superior quality and overall a better value than the sandwich spots with a cult following in Providence.
Very good food, excellent and fast service, try all of their soup and are delicious. Small but cozy place.
Perhaps my new favorite spot in RI for Italian Subs and Snail Salad. They do everything right. My platonic ideal of an Italian Grinder in Rhode Island. In the same ranks of "Italian Corner," (East Providence), Dee's (Cranston), and Natale's (East Greenwich) as premier destinations for Italian sandwiches in this state. More...
Awesome and amazing staff and family! Great fulfilling cuisines and great deli.
Amazing sandwich platter and salad!!!!!
Excellent food and service
THE BEST steak and cheese sub in the country. When Pauly answers the phone, takes my order, and says "I'm going to go make this right now"...I get butterflies. If you look at the cross section of the sandwich, it's like Davinci himself made the it. Each bite is pure bliss. I've honestly never been so enamored by food before....but this is something special. Thanks Pauly!!!! More...
Pauly's has the best food and a super staff!
I'm sorry I havent commented sooner. They r like family.to me . they treat each customer with respect... it can be busy at lunch.. so I go earlier. An original family buisness deserves respect....not to mention the food.!! Top notch quatity... I couldn't think of a better deli in. r.i. .The only complaint is that Pauley hasnt opened a second location ..but I do understand.yOk. ... so. I voted p.petas #1 meatballs.. and my son also... best soups..catering is on point..Unique Chunky snail salad..!!. everything. Paul is a top notch accredit chef.. it show in every recipe... I think the is probly 40 or so options for lunch daily... not including the sandwiches.... you will literally have to go a hundred times...trust me More...
Got here once a week. Always delicious

Happened upon this place while on the road for work and decided to give it a try. First impression: It's located on "Miserable" Spring Avenue, a drawback for sure, given the traffic. And the parking lot is too small. Inside, however, was another story. Although the dining area is very limited, the deli counters are plentiful and the place is bright and colorful. The young woman who waited on me was quite pleasant and efficient. I ordered a small White Italian Tuna. I was impressed to have a choice of bread, hard or soft. I chose hard and the bread was a highlight of the day - crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, with just the right amount of chewiness! The tuna was tasty, but a little too scant for such a bread/roll, making for a slightly dry sandwich. I'd try it again, but ask for it to be wetter. It was a nice balance of tuna, olive oil, black olives, chopped tomato and red onion.Since the holidays were approaching, they had an extensive and very impressive catering menu available. I believe that it might be worth another trip, despite the traffic and lack of parking. More...
Do yourself a favor and get a chicken cutlet sandwich from here. You will not be disappointed. This has become the standard for which I now judge all other chicken cutlet sandwiches. Totally worth fighting the terrible traffic on that road for. More...
Authentic and delicious!
Another epic location. For pennies on the dollar. Anything that you have here even though I've only eaten here once, I think we'll definitely be a best seller in anybody's book
Can't go wrong here

This place will send you back in time 50 years... a neighborhood deli-style eatery where everything is home-made by Pauli in his kitchen with old-standard recipes and good ingredients. Not nouvelle, nothing fancy, not to die-for... just solid, good-tasting stick-to-your-ribs dishes.Items change daily... the prices are very good. The counter women will give you an appropriate dose of North Providence wise-cracking along with good service. The place is reasonably clean with signage and decor right out of the '60s. The people watching is phenomenal. $10 worth of food will fill you up plenty. What are you waiting for? So come in already... More...
Everything I have ever gotten here is exellent. .prices are fair ordering system confusing
Always great food and friendly staff.
I ordered Paulys for my apartment complex’s annual Friendsgiving and it did not disappoint. Pauly provided me with more than enough food for everyone who attended and I received numerous compliments for the food selection. Best part is I didn’t even plan the menu, just asked Pauly to make me look good. His staff member (want to say his name was Alex) was super courteous and helped us set everything up. Overall amazing experience, will definitely use them again in the future. I’d give them 10/5 stars if possible. Thanks again guys.Whoever gave them one star doesn’t deserve tastebuds. More...
This small deli is tucked in a strip mall, but serves up Huge Italian flavors.
Phenomenal people and their catering communications were beyond perfect!
I crave their veal & peas entree and veal parm is just as good!
Excellent food..You will not be disappointed...
This is a great local Italian deli where you can get fresh sandwiches (cold or hot) as well as prepared food to go. It's all very good and reasonably priced. I had a coupon for a free sandwich and they gave us no problems with ability to get any sandwich we wanted. More...
Pauly is downright awesome. Food is top notch, only to be outdone by his genuine care for his customers. Due to some miscommunication on my part, I ended up needing last minute catering for a training seminar in Lincoln RI. I called Pauly the morning of and he helped put together a great spread for my guests (35 people) and had it ready to go right on schedule. He has earned my catering and dine in business any time I’m in Rhode Island!!! More...

Awesome grinders, great prepared foods, reasonable prices.
Best food I've had from a deli
Yo, Pauly! You're fallin' off! Or, at the very least, you have a definite issue with consistency.Today marked my fourth visit within the past year or so. While today's Italian grinder was better than the previous visit, it still fell short of the excellence served at my first two visits. I don't know if the lack of consistency is a personnel issue, a food ingredient issue, or a combination of both. Grinders #1 and 2 were made by an older woman, and both were excellent. Grinders #3 and 4 were made by younger women, and both of those sandwiches had issues. After getting a stale sandwich on my third visit, which was around 3 p.m., I knew enough to make sure I got there by noon today. I also ordered it on the hard roll. This time, the bread was fresh, but as far as texture goes, I would call it a "medium" roll; it didn't possess (in my mind, at least) a "hard" roll consistency until I reached the ends. But, the biggest issue I had with today's sandwich was the cheese. The young woman who made my sandwich folded up the cheese so much that it was like eating a block of cheese, instead of slices. I hate blocks of cheese, so besides being off-putting texturally (Did I just coin a new word? I have a bad habit of doing that in Yelp reviews.), it dulled the flavor of what was supposed to be sharp provolone. I've worked in a few delis in my younger days, and I was taught that thinner slices bring out the flavors more. And, speaking of dullness, the balsamic vinegar seemed weak.It was the combination of sharp provolone with balsamic vinegar that set Pauly Penta's Italian grinders apart from competitors, and my last two sandwiches definitely lost their edge compared to my first two. Hate to say it, but ... sorry, Pauly, you're no longer a contender for best Italian grinder in Rhode Island. Now don't get me wrong ... today's sandwich was a solid 4-star Italian grinder, and would kick the snot out of the over-hyped, bland Italian grinders churned out by Ricotti's down the road. The tomatoes on today's grinder were very fresh (although the girl who made today's sandwich was a little stingy with the lettuce). But, Dee's Deli in Cranston, and Italian Corner in East Providence, make a better Italian grinder, in my opinion. There, I've said it.(P.S. - Pauly's large Italian grinder IS a good value, at just under $8 before tax. I had a huge appetite and finished it all, and was WAY beyond full. If one was just moderately hungry, one could make two meals out of a large sandwich.) More...

This is Pauli Penta's place. Great little Italian Deli in North Providence. I got the Meatball Sandwich, which came highly recommended from the lady behind the counter. She said it was the best meatball in Providence which is a big claim, so I took her challenge. The sandwich was really good. A Meatball Sandwich is not my go to sandwich (too messy), but I was feeling brave today (and wore dark colors). The roll it came on was soft and had a great flavor and most importantly held up to the sauce on an to go order. The meatballs were really very good. They were moist and held together well. The sauce was a bit too sweet which is what made it a 4.5 rather than a 5. I got the Sun Dried Tomato and Mozzarella Salad, really enjoyed it. Also I got the Tomato, Cucumber and Mozzarella Salad which was also good. Great little deli that I will be back for. More...

This is truly a family owned deli with fresh delicious food, that seems like it was made by your favorite Italian uncle. There is loads of homemade deliciousness here. I had the chicken parm sandwich, that I could only finish half of, because it was so big. My boyfriend at an Italian grinder that was absolutely gigantic. The food was fresh, delicious, not greasy. I would highly recommend it. There are a few small tables you can sit and eat there, or you can take it to go. More...

Pauly Penta's is the place to go for excellent Italian food!! YUMMM!!!

Pauly and his team serve an amazing variety of food daily. Everything is delicious
Best specialty sandwiches around
I lived up the street and Paulys would be at least twice a week trip. I've never had anything bad there and the staff is always super friendly. My personal favorites are the meatball or chicken Parmesan sub. You can tell everything is high quality and fresh. If you're passing through RI I would recommend this as the one sandwich/deli to visit. More...
Excellent food and excellent service are why Pauly Penta's is always busy. It's worth the wait.
Excellent sandwiches, calzones, pizza and prepared foods. The Italian Tuna sandwich is one of my favorites, and the large is big enough for 2 people or leftovers if you choose. They also sell great local Italian bread, rolls, and desserts. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. If you order ahead, your food will be awaiting your arrival. Definitely try this great deli out if you are in the area, you'll love it. You can eat in or take out. Ther are probably about 10 tables, and there is a parking lot also.. More...
This place is okay. Not sure why it has so many rave reviews. I had a grilled chicken sandwich with grilled vegetables on a soft roll. Not bad. My friends had cold subs. They thought it was okay. The pizzas were pretty good though. More...
Holy of all moleys I have found the earthly incarnation of the luncheon gods. Imagine an all-hungry bearded divinity, forging upon his cutting board-anvil a gargantuan Italian grinder roll and a pile of the freshest meats and prepared delicacies one could possibly conceive. Now imagine that on Mineral Spring Ave. (ideally not at rush hour).Excuse my grandiose delusions, but as I type this I'm pretty sure I'm still experiencing a contact high from the massive prosciutto and 'mozzarell sub I inhaled like a fresh whiff of mountain spring air mere seconds go. Bringing it down to earth a bit here: I had heard for years of this deli legend, but never made it over to indulge for myself. Well, one smart man decided not to eat for that past ~20 hours and knew this was as good a time as any.As a recovering Subway addict (6 months clean!) I cannot be more excited to have found an ACTUAL sandwich joint for lunch. The hard roll subs are legitimately as big as your head, but if you believe in yourself you can wolf it down in one sitting like I just did. Growing up in Cranston, the authentic Italian deli vibe takes me back to my childhood as a wee Rhode Island lad. While I did not get to sample the prep food, it smelled and appeared to be top-tier, real-deal, mouth-watering goodness. On top of the deli counter items, there is a full selection of local pastries, baked goods, and even a coffee menu. And let's not gloss over the Pizzelle. NEVER pass up a Pizzelle.Certainly lives up to the hype. Put down the Subway club and come get your feet wet in the A-leagues folks. More...
I picked up an Italian tuna sandwich for lunch and it was delicious! It was loaded with chopped tomatoes, sliced black olives, a little chopped red onion, and little oil and vinegar (no mayo, yay), and served on a yummy fresh Italian roll with lettuce and tomato. A large is great if you like leftovers! The restaurant is cute and really clean and the service is good also, very friendly. They have glass cases with lots of prepared foods that would be suitable for lunch or dinner, pizza, and some desserts/cookies as well. It's a good idea to call your order in so it's ready when you arrive. More...
Any review you see under 5 stars, disregard! This place is the best sandwich shop in the country and I've traveled quite a bit! There is no better Italian grinder out there...hard roll or soft roll they ask (huge bonus, bc I love bakery hard rolls), mixed with high quality meats, and thinly sliced onions, lettuce, tomatoes! True story...I have gone 30 minutes out of my way just for that sandwich! Anyways, do not miss out on this place, it's unreal! One other suggestion, the prosciutto with pickled peppers! It's a flavor combination that just sets a party in your mouth! Love love love this place! More...
We ordered Pauly's for our end of year function at work and the food was delivered on time and hot! The food( chicken parm, veggie lasagna, chicken wings, garden salad, eggplant parm, baked ziti) and desserts (mixed platter) LOVED the cannoli's were so delicious everyone raved about the food !
Great food, always fresh. Truly a Gourmet Deli with great prices.
Everything here is delicious staff is friendly and they have lots of great choices every day
Excellent Italian deli with all kinds of pies, prepared salads and sides, deli sandwiches, calzones, etc. If I lived in Providence I'd be going here a lot more.
Pauly has been making sandwiches and amazing food since I was a young kid. When I visit RI this is a MUST place to grab some great real Italian food. Try something new and you won't be disappointed! Can't wait to get back there soon. More...

No matter what I have ordered at Penta's, I have enjoyed it. Be it a sandwich, lasagna, pizza, any of their various side dishes, or their catered food, I have never found a single item to be unsatisfactory. The prices are well within reason. and in addition to the food the principle reason I continue to frequent this establishment is the staff. Everyone working here is warm and friendly. Have had takeout from here a few years ago, while it was good, wasn't anything that jumped out at me. So after a few years of hearing how spectacular Paulie P's is, I had to stop in and see first hand. I love this place. I go here every time I come to Providence to visit friends. Although my friends have moved farther away from the restaurant, we still drive here to get our sandwiches. This place is hands down the best deli in the state. The staff is friendly and helpful and the owner is always on site. I eat in regularly and have also used their catering services. 5 Stars all the way!
Delicious Italian sub/grinder with choice of hard or soft bread, with balsamic vinegar. Chicken Parmesan one of the best ever.
Soooooo good, fresh deli and premade food is UNREAL. The stuffed peppers are something from the heavens, also the Italian grinder is something everyone should enjoy at least once.
Just as a note, I only had their catering. However, I had the chicken caprese and the vodka penne sauce... and it was unbelievable! I never got seconds.. but I did for the Vodka penne. It was very creamy and cheesy, and you didn't notice the vodka so much! I don't eat salad or eggplant parm, but the rest of my party was ecstatic about their meals. Great Italian! I would love to come and try the restaurant itself! More...

Paul Penta's is an Italian deli that serves hot sandwiches and prepared foods. All of the food is homemade and is all well done. My favorite item is the the chicken parm sandwich. They also use Boar's Head deli meat for all of their deli sandwiches. The part I like is they offer the option of a hard or soft Italian roll. All of the prepared food is great. The place has 2 drawbacks. The items are are pricey, but you pay for quality. The other issue is that around lunchtime it is packed and if you go after the rush a lot of the daily specials are sold out. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. Thanks More...
Large sandwich menu and you can customize each sandwich with whatever toppings you want. Check their website daily because they offer different prepared food specials each day. The specials are weighed which is nice because you can have them make you a dish with a bunch of different things. Plenty of vegetarian options. Parking can sometimes be tough but you can always park next door in the Oki's parking lot and walk over. They open earlier than you might think (7am) and have good scones, muffins, or even Italian toast!Pauly is always there and does the majority of the cooking. More...
I've used Pauly Penta's to cater an special lunch event for my office. They were easy to work with, the food was delicious and the portions were huge!
I like that they use boars head brand meats because they are the premium brand of meats. Good variety and friendly staff. Delicious and qualify food, only big drawback is price is a little steep.
Ayyyy! I feel like I am Italian after eating at this place! A hidden gem on Mineral Spring (where you are bound to find many deli's, take-out places and exceptional Italian eateries!). Whenever I review a place, parking is always an issue because I care about my car. Parking is honestly bad, real bad..... I had to put my beloved car in the back just to find a space! But don't let that scare you away, there is a reason the lot is full. When you walk inside it is kind of small, I won't lie about this fact. A bit dis-orginized, you are suppose to take a number but you don't because "next in line?" is king here. I ordered an Italian grinder, what better place I thought? The gentleman behind the counter was happy to oblige and even suggested what toppings I should add, how helpful! When I got the sandwich it looked small for the price I had paid but oh boy was I in for a treat, this was THE BEST sandwich I have ever had! (Not kidding, glorious! though it could use some more meat) The first and only place to put balsamic dressing on an Italian grinder, I never knew how good it could taste! The bonus was I kind of felt like family here, I asked should I pay now or? The response, "Don't worry about it, relax" I could not believe it! There are plenty of people going in and out at lunch time so parking might be a problem but its worth it. Find a spot, head in for lunch and order an Italian. If you have a big stomach, grab a large its well worth the price. Pauly Penta's is a once a week treat for a college student like myself, worth it! More...
Good, family run operation located on the most awful street to navigate in RI! Miserable springs ave! Once you navigate the street and the parking lot (which can also be treacherous) you'll be READY for lunch! Very nice salads, prepared dishes and deli sandwiches. Try one of the specials which change daily and are generally very delicious. They have a smaller selection than Venda, but it's much more low key and you don't need a velour track suit and blackjack to get a sandwich in under 10 minutes. More...
The best I have enjoyed my visit
We did pick-up catering for our holiday party after seeing them in a Google search, and we're thrilled we chose Pauly Penta's (a bit of a risk as we'd never tried them before). Our staff loved the lasagna (meat and vegetarian), chicken marsala, and ravioli! On top of the great food, the Pauly Penta's staff was friendly and the food was ready spot on time. It could not have been a better experience. I think this may become a regular thing. More...
Pauly Penta's is the perfect Italian deli. It's a secret hot spot for all fans of Venda. Much easier to get in and out of here during the lunch rush.I've never had a bad experience. If your not including this deli on your weekly lunchtime rotation you need to move to Idaho. Pick your pleasure, chicken parm, meatballs, Italian specialties, prepared entrees, they all are fabulous. Friendly staff and great selection of sandwiches and prepared foods. Italian grinder on a hard roll with everything - tell me you like it!
Chicken parm here is ridiculously good. I highly recommend it. Only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is because I haven't tried anything but the chicken parm.
I have SO many fond memories of this place. When I first figured out this place back in college, we used to get the hot capicola sandwich on a soft roll. Pure bliss. Then we moved to their italian, it was better. Than eventually settled on their prosciutto special. Touched by the hand of God. Until one Saturday, spending most of the morning horizontal, my roommates and I decided to pony up and feed ourselves. Their weekend specials are always worth sampling, I ended up getting some random sandwich which I have no idea what it was, what it was called, or what was even in it anymore, but what I do remember was that it was the best sandwich I have ever eaten....now fast forward a few years, I no longer live in Providence, but always make an effort to hit this place up when I can. I have an old roommate that actually brought back an Italian sub for another friend on a trip from Providence to Phoenix. It's that good. More...
I love Pauly Penta's! I mean who doesn't?!? Great, fresh Italian food. My favorite is the Chicken Parm sandwich with a side of Tortelinni Salad!! It is definitely a little more pricy that other deli's in the area, but the quality can not be beat! More...
I love this place. Perfect for the dinner you want to cook but don't have time or patience for. I've picked up all sorts of Italian favorites and more there: ravioli, lasagna, ziti and meatballs, veal and peppers, sausage sandwiches, fresh mozzarella, frittatas, rabe, pork, stuffed artichokes, chicken wings, fruit salad, chicken escarole soup, etc.. Everything is well prepared, fresh and delicious. They make terrific sandwiches on the spot although it takes them a while to do so. There are a few tables at which you could sit and enjoy the food or you could take it all to go. Not on the Hill but a great Italian deli! Their sandwiches and salads are excellent and they also can prepare larger scale meals for catering and ordering out
