Stopped here for lunch and we're not disappointed good menu with the choice of smaller portions which is not always offered. We all had something different and the food was freshly cooked to order we were asked if we wanted to dine in bar or dinning room and we chose dinning room . We stayed here for one night and enjoyed it. The staff are welcoming, friendly and very efficient. We ate in the hotel the night we stayed and the food was delicious and we both enjoyed our meals. Breakfast was piping hot and it too was delicious. Not so enthusiastic about our room. It was adequate, clean and comfortable enough but a bit 70/80s with the brown and beige decoration and the pine furniture - none of which really went with the deep red carpet - all of which left the room with an overall 'dark' feeling. The bathroom left a lot to be desired and is definitely in need of a rethink and refurb. The wash hand basin was sideways on to and right up against the loo - not much room to manoeuvre. Had we been staying for more than the one night I think I might have enquired as to the availability of another room. Our room faced the main street and even with the double glazing the sound of traffic in the early in the morning was evident - not that there was a lot of it but what there was sounded like heavy vehicles - perhaps lorries. Edzell itself is a lovely place and there is plenty to do with walks etc. and it is an ideal base for visiting other places of interest. I would go back and stay in the Panmure Arms again - but definitely not in the same room.| More...

Rooms at this older property were clean and comfortable. Staff were excellent as was our evening meal and breakfast. We loved this small village and also enjoyed a visit to the local castle, a close drive and well worthwhile..

I served at RAF Edzell in the early 1990's and relish every opportunity to return to the area where I spent a few wonderful years. This last trip was more about other locations but I ensured that we stopped by my old Edzell stomping grounds. It poured down rain most of the single day we were there, but around 8pm things cleared up. Thankfully, it was just after the summer solstice, so there was still some daylight left.
