How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Have a surveyor do a report on the building . Also check with the local council with a proposed change of use .
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
Firstly check with the council weather a chang if use is pemitted. Have a surveyor do a report on the structure . All granted . Find out from the local council weather the build will require planning permission or permitted development under a change of use for the garage to livable space. Once the go ahead has been given we remove the door, and dig foundations for to the specified level where the door used to be . Infill with concrete . Above where doors were check that the lentil above or catnic is suitable to hold any structure above if not install a sutable catnic . tooth out every second brick on each side to tie the new wall in to existing building . The wall will be built as a 300mm cavity wall as required by building regulations 100mm outher skin , 100mm cavity witand 100mm inner skin. We build up to dpc height with engineering bricks abd thermal block and install a cavily fill . Wall ties will be used as per building regs and dpc will be layed. We build up to window opening and install sill . And at window height we install a lentil and cavil tray with weep hole to be inserted on the solder course . Finish the wall to stop. Measure up window opening and install.

Request a visit by council to have a certificate issued.

20 years as a general builder . I started out as a bricklayer and through the years ended up qualified as a plumber and carpenter to name a few .

Been in the building trade for many years and got tired of making other people money from my hard work. So i decided to open my own business.
