I’ve been training with Nikki for the past five years. I was a first time trainee and Nikki made it all fun, easy to understand, and stress-free. Both of our Labs are now certified therapy dogs, thanks to Nikki, and the joy they bring to the community (and me!) is palpable. Nikki's classes trained me! I have never had a puppy before so going to her classes helped me enjoy the stage and feel more confident. She is patient, encouraging and gives time to answer questions. We love OC Service Dogs! We have been going for 1.5 years, from the time our puppy was 4months old (that was when we adopted him) until now--we continue to go for reinforcement and new training ideas. Topics covered include training strategies and general care for both puppies and adult dogs. I participated in both the group classes and a private lesson. Both were very helpful and exceeded my expectations. The group classes are great. They have a mix of dogs at various levels of training. The open forum style is practical and it allows everyone to ask real world dog behavior questions. OC Service Dogs is run by Nikki Esser, a highly-experienced, professional, and compassionate dog trainer who specializes in training all kinds of working dogs, particularly service dogs and therapy dogs, but also offers obedience classes that are open to all dogs.
I first interacted with Nikki over the phone when she responded to my inquiry about how to go about obtaining and training a Service Dog to help mitigate the everyday challenges I face due to my disabling chronic illnesses. Nikki has supported me through the whole process, from obtaining a dog (she recommended a fantastic breeder who connected us with an excellent Service Dog Candidate), to potty training and getting through the first hard months of obedience training, to task training, to phone conversations about questions and issues, and beyond. We are still in the training phase, but I have no doubts that she will support us through to certification.
I highly recommend the group obedience classes (she offers these three times per week) for dogs of all ages. They really helped my Service Dog in Training get used to other dogs and focusing on me despite being surrounded by distractions.
Private Lessons are another great option for folks who need individual attention to work on specific tasks or have difficulty training in a group atmosphere.
Nikki also offers combination boarding and training, which has been very helpful for keeping up my Service Dog's training when I am feeling under the weather, training tasks, or working through complicated issues that I cannot solve on my own.
You will not find a more empathetic, kind, or thorough dog trainer than Nikki Esser. Contact OC Service Dogs, you will not be disappointed!

We love OC Service Dogs! Nikki helped us learn how to navigate training a puppy - by training ourselves first. Nikki is so patient with both pets and humans, and I gain so much value from weekend classes! ! We get compliments every where we go with how we'll behaved our dog is - and classes are always fun and so helpful. From bitting/nibbling, to jumping on you, to walking on a leash without pulling you, Nikki helped us learn how to communicate to our dogs, what we want from them. She always leaves time for questions which is so helpful to hear both the questions others have and Nikki's answers. We also left our pup with OC Service Dogs for a weekend and were so relieved finding a solution to not having someone to take care of the pup. Our girl even heeled better after her weekend with them! We ABSOLUTELY LOVE OC Service Dogs! We have learned SO much from Nikki in such a short time and enjoy her upbeat personality. She is very experienced with training dogs AND their people. It shows in her ability to work with every dog she meets and to customize her training techniques to best fit the dog/handler team.
