Our second home in Bakewell required complete renovation. As our primary home was a two hour drive away we needed a company we could trust to manage a complex project over many months, keeping communication lines constantly open and dealing efficiently with any day to day problems.

OakenStone were already renovating a neighbouring cottage, and an initial site meeting persuaded us they had the resources and ideas to make a success of our project.

We also needed a company with innovative ideas to maximize space utilization and maintain as many of the original features of the cottage as possible.

The project benefitted from a combined and integrated approach to design, planning and build, and from having the same team of tradesmen working on it from beginning to end.

We were kept updated through site meetings, email exchanges, phone calls and via the company’s online portal.

We were extremely fortunate to find such a reliable and skilled builder/planner having been let down by a company who decided at the last minute they didn't want the job which had awkward access. The team were all courteous and prompt, the work was done to an excellent standard and all within the expected budget. What stands apart with Oakenstone is the level of clear communication about the details as well as the overall plan and the creative solutions to some problems (notably the amount of light into our house). Even though we lived in the house while the work was done (which included removing the kitchen roof, knocking down various walls etc) the level of disruption was surprisingly little as Dave had planned the work around us. James redesigned the layout which has meant that our first floor home now feels much lighter and a better use of space. It is such a pleasure to have had this work done, we wish we'd done it sooner!
