To sum it all up - BEST INSTRUCTOR / BEST SCHOOL.My 7yr old son wanted to wrestle and after some research and a few phone calls i realized the Farrison Wrestling Academy was the best choice. My son participated in an introductory class and immediately understood it wasn't going to be a walk in the park. He was nervous but adamently told me he wanted to learn. Two months in and he cant get enough; he drills at home every day and cant wait for the next class. I attribute his excitement and love for the sport to instructor Khyl's no nonsense teaching approach as well as his genuine concern for the students. He sets the bar high and wont accept anything less than your best effort. Any praise given is earned not gifted. Based on all this, I decided to take the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class. Khyl's teaching approach to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu parallels his wrestling teaching style.Khyl is a great instructor. He will teach/demonstrate a technique, breaking it down, step by step. He goes over it again and again. Then the students drill while he observes, making the necessary adjustments. He focuses on the FUNDAMENTAL principles and corrects you as you work. Then, it's time for live training. He teaches you to think, and coaches you through the techniques learned, as you're grappling in real time; simultaneously doing the same for your opponent. This approach is, for me at least, the best way to learn. It's exhilarating and exhausting all at once, but WOW....you learn quickly. To top it off Khyl's concern for your betterment is real, and combined with the fact that you work out with a great group of students, all I can say to sum up isBEST INSTRUCTOR / BEST SCHOOL.CJ More...

We are patrons of the Farrison Wrestling Academy. This program is for wrestlers of all ages (from elementary school to college) who want to improve their skills and compete at the highest level. Khyl someone who has competed at the highest level in three sports and achieved every accolade possible. As a result of college level coaching, he has insight into techniques and strength building regimen that is not available in other Rockland programs. Unlike other programs, Khyl is right out there on the mat with the kids, drilling one-on-one. He's challenging his students to do their best and setting the bar very high for every wrestler. There are no participation trophies at Farrison Wrestling Academy, but if you scan the box scores, the results are evident. In years to come, Rockland County Wrestling will regain it's past luster, thanks to this program. More importantly, the life skills he instills will remain with each wrestler, long after graduation." Where do I start... For years looking for a serious grappling spot here in Rockland... Let's just say wasn't impressed with anything Rockland had to offer. Subsequently ended up crossing the bridge to train with prestigious camps like Renzo Gracie and Marcelo Garcia. To this day both camps amazing to say the least. Still live in Rockland but was fortunate to find another Gem closer to home in Beacon and presently a student of an amazing Jiujitsu student and Teacher in Mike Palladino. The sheer fact that my current Instructor believes in the power of cross training and like mindedness view afforded me the opportunity to cross paths with Khyl Farrison. What's more convenient right here at home in Rockland. Now I've trained and still train with several of the best(EGA;KGA; SoulFighters; Marcelo; Renzo Gracie ) within the tristate area but am grateful that Rockland has finally come into it's own especially with its Grappling. Aside from serving as one of Rockland's finest(Highly respected and well deserved Rockland county Sheriff) Mr. Farrison's Wrestling coupled with his Jiujitsu skill set has made him an extremely formidable Blackbelt to say the least. After personally training with him I can attest only big things are in store for the future and I for one am grateful for his friendship and presence here at home. If you want some serious and technical training that will yield real results check out Khyl right here in Rockland. Take my word you won't be disappointed. More...

My name is Royce Ramos. Owner and head instructor of Nomad Kali & Combat Fitness. I have 20+ years of training in The Filipino Martial Art called Pekiti Tirsia Kali. I welcomed Professor Khyl into our school, and he has proven to be an excellent instructor. Great explanations, technical details are emphasized. As well as the little Nuances that you don't normally get to see. He brings them to light! Honestly, out of all the places we've been, and instructions I've had, I've learned more in a shorter period of time under Professor Khyl. And my previous Instructors were all great Black belts as well. If you want an amazing instructor that will help you grow, Professor Khyl is an excellent choice! More...

When I met Khyl I had no idea that my entire life was about to change. I had been involved in martial arts (mostly Muay Thai) for a long time, only coming to train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu once in a while, I just didn't get BJJ. One day Khyl asked me to roll with him, and I was frozen. Why would he, then a brown belt, want to roll with a chubby, spastic white belt? But I never say no to opportunity and that's how our BJJ journey together began. On that day Khyl was patient, fluid, and strong. He challenged me but didn't overpower me. After our roll, he helped me analyze and fine tune some of my techniques and transitions and then we rolled again. Post roll we discussed my BJJ journey so far, but I never told him I was on the verge of quitting. Every class after that, whenever Khyl was there, we worked after class. We drilled, and conditioned. Through our work together Khyl gave me the first blueprint I ever had in bjj. I finally started to understand it! Truth is, Khyl stood by me, very patiently, and brought me up to be strong (mentally and physically) and competitive. It was under him that I won my first gold medal in a tournament. As I watched him grow and gracefully face many obstacles on his road to becoming black belt, I wondered how I could have ever considered quitting. He was, and still is, a true role model, mentor and friend. The day I earned my blue belt, Khyl earned his black belt. I was so excited for him!! But, as any coach would be, Khyl was happier for me. That alone speaks volumes. The thing about him is, he's always willing to put in the work if you are willing to match his intensity, passion and drive. More...

I have been meaning to write a review of Professor Khyl and NY United BJJ for some time and it has been hard. Primarily because it is such a personal thing for me to discuss. I first met Professor Khyl back in 2009 when he began training at the academy I was training out of and right away he was a menace on the mat. It was clear very early on that he had strong comprehension of the principles of grappling and it was terrifying. After my first roll with him I learned that with his strength and power also came a tremendous amount of control and precision. Over the years he has sharpened his skill set under some of the best practitioners in the world and become a high level competitor himself. But that is not even a quarter of the story.

The rest of the story is about who Professor Khyl is as a person. In 2011 he spent almost an entire year mentoring me to become a strength and conditioning coach. He spent hours drilling with me on the various aspects of being a strength coach, technique under the bar, proper running mechanics, conditioning methods, controlling the room, and proper conduct of a coach. He quite literally downloaded his 10 years of knowledge in the field into my brain. Since then I have enjoyed success as a strength coach at many colleges and universities as well as a director of strength and conditioning at a major university. All thanks to Professor Khyl.

In conclusion I know for certain that if you choose to begin or continue your journey with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and you live in the Rockland County area NY United is the academy for you. You will receive high quality education and practical experience from a coach who has paid the price to earn his rank. You will also have the luxury of working with someone who will not quit on you until you do things the right way, who will give you the tough love when you need it and proudly smile when you've achieved what you've set out to accomplish.
