I am currently a second year MSW graduate student at the University of Southern California. I was Nick Holt's first year MSW intern at Veterans and Loved Ones Recovery (VALOR) and Women's Community and Reintegration Program (WCRP). As a first year graduate student I didn't know what to expect from a difficult internship at Los Angles County Department of Mental Health, however, Nick was an amazing MSW supervisor and field instructor who kindly welcomed me and exposed me to a variety of challenging experiences including outreach and engagement with homeless veterans, crisis intervention and evaluation, therapeutic treatment, daily clinical duties such as triage, intake, assessment and diagnosis. As a supervisor, Nick was easily approachable, considerate and took the time to get to know my professional interests as an emerging social worker. I am new to the field of Social Work and Nick provided me with many learning opportunities to further advance my career. Nick’s specialties include CBT and he kindly allowed me to shadow him during therapy sessions (with the client’s consent) and observe as he worked with his clients. Nick was very professional and passionate about his work. I have the highest respect for Nick as a person, supervisor and future colleague. More...
