Q&As

A great photograph is usually a piece of art. What we need here is an effective photograph, which is like an effective paragraph of copy. It has to communicate something about the object in the image. In commercial terms a great photograph is one that illustrates the features of the product or service on offer and resonates with the aspirations of their potential audience. For me to take the best image I must understand what it is about the subject matter that might be most pertinent and in tune with the desires of the potential customer.

A lot. I must get an insight into the deep understanding that the client will (or should) already have about the attractions and benefits of what they are selling. Once I have a similar understanding I can flip into customer psyche mode and think of the questions the customer might ask and set about providing the answers in the medium I am most familiar with, pictorial imagery.

I love the variety present in my line of work and the challenge of melding the technical and artistic requirements with that of the communication objective. I'm a thinker as well as a doer and enjoy all the stages from the first moment of involvement to the final acknowledgement of my efforts by a satisfied client.

I had worked within a commercial creative environment for 11 years as an employee and in its management. I loved working for the clients but not the internal politics of the working environment. By moving to a self employment basis I felt I could serve my clients better and steer the ship the way that suited my creative objectives.

Vast technical experience. Dedication to deliver on their needs and the desire to build a long term working relationship. On avarage my customers stay with me for 10 > 15 years.
