Mark is a real PRO photographer. He loves kids so he will really get the best out of little people. He has been taking photos for decades of weddings and events. There are a lot of people nowadays taking photos that just shoot a million photos with a digital device and some of them come out. Mark did film photography for decades so he actually had to know how to take a photo with no feedback until a week after the event was over. Imagine the skill you must have to take photos of a once in a lifetime moment,,,,, with nothing but your own skill.... and know that each click of that shutter is a perfect picture for printing out the moment. Mark Nakamura truly has an eye for capturing the moment, the mood, the realness of any event, family photo shoot, or activity that you want him to capture. We recently had our family photos taken by him and he catered to ALL of our needs including being there and READY to go before we got there, a wild 1 1/2 year old adventurous boy that doesn't stay still, our family dog that we decided to bring along last minute, and multiple other happenings that go along with our crazy family. He knows the shots to get and does it quickly, yet thoroughly. The final touches on his photos are amazing and we ended up with such high quality files that print out beautifully! I also can attest to his quality of work through amazing shots he gets of my students (as I'm a teacher and LOVE high quality photos of their memorable moments at school). One last thing I can vouch for is his pricing! You can't beat it! Mark photographed our wedding day at the Ventana Grill in Pismo. Mark was awesome! He took the time to find out what we were looking for, made recommendations and did an amazing job. He took us down the street to a beach since we wanted some pre-ceremony photos on the beach. He did a great job of keeping things moving quickly, which we really appreciated. He moved quick, and the photos came out fantastic! We were in a hurry to get to our cocktail our to be with our guests from out of town, and Mark made this happen, without feeling like we missed any photo opportunities. I was so impressed when I got the digital files of our pictures and saw the slideshow/video Mark put together. We LOVE our pictures!! Choosing a photographer for my son's senior pictures was a little overwhelming. Mark came highly recommended by a friend so we went with him. We had planned on taking pictures at the beach-as so many choose to do. The day of the shoot we realized we would be dealing with fog so we made a last minute switch to our property. Mark was professional and worked efficiently in a new surrounding. He even took photos of our family at no extra charge. The slideshow was up a day later and he provided me with a zip file of pictures 2 days later. Mark is an incredibly talented photographer. Check out his blog if you have any doubts!When we booked our wedding at the Madonna Inn, we were given a referral list including photographers. I checked out everyone on the list and immediately Mark was my favorite. His photos are so dynamic, beautifully staged and gorgeously color balanced. I felt so lucky when he had our date still available. During the wedding he was a calm and knowledgable force that helped when my inexperienced and underprepared-self didn't know where to proceed. He was wonderful to have around. Some of my guests even mentioned how he wasn't obtrusive or in the way like some wedding photographers are. Can I say he has some stealth? Receiving the photos, I was shocked at how many we got! They brought me to tears because they were better than I had hoped! They came in a zip file, which I prefer because then you have the option to do whatever you want with them. I am currently organizing a book for ourselves, which I like having the ability to do on my own. I highly recommend using Nakamura Photography - could not have had a better experience. My husband and I were married July 5th and Mark was our photographer. The absolute best part of hiring him was the quick turn around on receiving our pictures. Both our engagement and wedding pictures were complete within a week of the event.

The quality of the work is absolutely stunning! He edited when needed and offered pictures in black and white as well as color. He took so many pictures I had so many to choose from for both our engagement and wedding pictures. I feel like every part of the wedding day was captured in photographs. There was nothing that was missed.

Mark is so personable, he asked everyone's name in the bridal party and actually remembered them. It was so nice to hear names called out instead of hey you. I was very impressed with his ability to memorize everyone's name. Especially because we had a bridal party of 20.

We picked Mark Nakamura to photograph our wedding because our venue, Avila Beach Golf Resort, recommended him and he did many of the photographs there. We are so happy we went with Mark. He was great the day of our wedding, getting all the shots we wanted. When my husband and I took our photos after the ceremony he was very quick and efficient so we could get to the party! He gave direction well and was very easy to talk to. He was also very unobtrusive. He got a ton of great shots but you didn't feel like a photographer was breathing down your neck. Before our photos were ready he sent us a video of some of the shots and it was a great little added bonus to tide us over. My wedding in Pismo Beach was a destination wedding. I was a bit nervous picking a photographer without meeting face to face but I had nothing to worry about with Mark. He was quick with his responses and very organized. He took every photo we asked for and got us our picture files within a week. He was at the venue early and I believe even stayed late. I didn't have the opportunity to meet Mark until the day of my daughters Wedding. Mark arrived on schedule early in the day to capture the dressing festivities and stayed until the very end of the night. During his many hours with us he was constantly moving capturing all kinds of journalistic natural shots as well as the posed ones. Mark was our photographer for our wedding. He was very, very nice and extremely professional. He took pictures of the whole venue when he arrived, then came into the bridal suite and started taking pictures of all of the girls getting ready. When it was time for me to change into my dress, he was kind enough to turn away :)He used two different cameras for two different effects. We did the "first look" before the wedding and knocked out the bridal party pictures, and they turned out perfectly. The pictures during the ceremony were great, too!Mark took pictures of all of the typical wedding things, like the first dance, father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, garter toss, bouquet toss, cake cutting, etc. We were running a few minutes behind schedule, but he was nice enough to stay a little late to make sure that he got pictures of everything!While we were on our honeymoon, I got an email from him, saying that he had made a youtube video with some of our pictures. Mark did Senior pictures for our son around downtown SLO. He is creative and has a good eye for settings. I was surprised at how quickly we got a video montage of the pictures, with the DVD available the next day with all of the pictures on it. The photo shoot was quick, he made my son feel comfortable, and he got some really super pictures. I also would like to mention how flexible he is. I had to cancel our original appointment the day before it was supposed to take place due to a sudden conflict. He was gracious and offered alternate days the very next week. You never know what to expect with photographers because their website may not be representative for the 'regular' or more budget-minded bride. What we got with Mark Nakamura was incredible! He took over 1,200 photos and caught wonderful, candid as well as posed shots. He knew exactly what to shoot, when, and with what camera. He was always watching for opportunities to catch special moments between the bride/groom, family and friends. He had a couple of these huge cameras slung around his shoulder and was snapping like a crazy person. The photes were not even close to what we expected - they far exceeded our expectations. All the shots were large, high quality so we could blow them up really high without loss of definition. He put together a slide show and we got DVDs of all the photos. I cannot recommend him enough. My fiance and I had Mark take our engagement photos in SLO, and he did an excellent job. He followed us all over downtown SLO, the Cal Poly campus, and Montana De Oro for half a day. I feel like he put an extraordinary amount of time and effort into our photos. He gave us a CD of all the digital files (all the original shots, plus some where he added effects and touch-ups), 3 DVD copies of a slideshow he made us, and one 11"x14" matted, high quality color copy of one of our pictures. After doing a ton of research on wedding photographers in the area of SLO, I took my venue's (The Madonna Inn) recommendation of Nakamura's Photography. We felt pretty confident in our decision after seeing many of Mark's pictures all over downtown SLO in restaurants and shops, it was evident that he is really talented. I just received my wedding photograph disks back and was very pleased with the results. We got about 1500 shots on 2 disks and I liked many of them. It only took about 3 weeks to get the disk, which after speaking to some of my friends, is very fast to get them back, so that was definitely a plus!Mark did an excellent job getting all the "traditional" shots during the ceremony and afterwards, but he also did a good job getting great candid shots during the first part of the reception since we had him there until 8pm. I liked a lot of the lighting he did and also enjoyed the few black and white photos that we got from him. Another thing that my husband appreciated about Mark was that he had no problem taking direction and opinions from us. After he got all the "traditional" shots he was more than willing to take any shots we wanted him to take, including an almost 15 minute walk to the front of The Madonna Inn so we could take photographs in front of the big sign. Mark was also savvy enough to call Matthew and I out of the reception around dusk so we could take some more photographs at that very lovely time of day in different areas of the resort. The reason for the -1 star is because we didn't get any prints or a book that I know a lot of wedding photographers include in their pricing. Mark was definitely on the more pricey side of the photographers that I checked with in the area, which I didn't mind because he DID do an excellent job, but I would have enjoyed a book with a few prints for the price I paid. Also, at first I was a bit discouraged that Mark would be working by himself because I was afraid he would miss some shots without an assistant helping him out, but I do not feel like he missed anything at all. However, my wedding was very small (only about 40 people) so I think it is a possibility that given a larger sized event it would be a struggle to capture everything with only one person shooting film. With all of this said, I would definitely recommend Nakamura's Photography for a photographer in the SLO area. More...

Mark is so down to earth and very fun loving. When we booked Mark Nakamura for our wedding, we got a heck of a deal for him to take our engagement pictures. He took us up to Terrace Hill in San Luis Obispo and the engagement pictures came out beautiful! He took amazing pictures and he was willing to take pictures with poses that my husband and I had kind of made up.

The day of the wedding, he arrived early to scout out the hotel area. It was great. Additionally, he was very nonintrusive, which made me really happy. I didn’t even know he was there, the majority of the time.

A week after the wedding, my pictures were ready for pick up. This was truly a pleasant surprise, as I thought it was going to take months. The great thing about working with Mark is that he not only takes the pictures, but he edits them as well, and you get to keep all of the pictures, to do with them as you wish. For our engagement pictures, I took our favorite picture and got it put on a canvas at Costco and used it at the wedding. I plan on doing the same thing with my favorite wedding picture.

Mark was such an awesome photographer, with a great, funny, personality. He seemed very quiet when we talked on the phone prior to the wedding, but I was so comfortable with him as soon as I met him, I recommend him to anyone and everyone!

We called Mark on a very short notice and he came the next day and met us at our hotel to take pictures of our Grandfather. We got home to look at all of the photos and there was not ONE bad photo in the whole bunch!!!! He was calm, professional and open to suggestions. The slideshow disk was available for us to pick up a few hours after we finished the session as well as some 8X10 prints.
