Naive has recently gone "full service" and it's made a huge difference! The waitstaff wasn't stellar but sufficient. I'm so happy. I love the food at Naive, but it's confused set up and slow service was always a huge pitfall. They recently released their Summer 2019 menu which features a ton of bright and light summery dishes! We started with roasted red pepper hummus--which was enormous and deliciously spiced. Then we moved on to General Tso's Cauliflower which is a Naive classic and been on each of the menus since the restaurant opened. We finished with grit cakes which are served with mushrooms and summer squash and a corn salsa. It's just screams summer. More...

I was skeptical of Naive at first because I typically dislike vegan food, but each time I've been there I have been so pleased with what I order! My favorite thing on the menu hands down is the general tso's cauliflower, but this last time I wanted to try something new so we ordered the nachos. WOW were they incredible! If you hadn't told me that the cheese was cashew cheese I wouldn't have known the difference. I wanted to lick the bowl clean. I also had their seasonal grain bowl (pictured). That was very good as well, but I may add protein if I were to try it again. Definitely my favorite spot to go with my vegan friends, as they have non-vegan options as well. Something for everyone! Went here on Sunday for a dinner. We were seated quickly. The restaurant has nice and simple ambience. Our waitress Bridget was nice and explained us the menu and answered our questions. I got the Moroccan chicken, Chicken Pesto Sandwich and Whipped guacamole. The guacamole was nothing great. The plantain chips were an interesting touch but it really was average. The Moroccan chicken was scrumptious as had a very authentic taste to it. The khuskhus and tough yet complimented it very well. The Pesto Sandwich was a tad bit oily but tasty nonetheless. The chicken was soft and a delight to bite into.Overall an above average experience with some good food. The check was about $50 so it's kinda expensive but I'd say you should visit it at least once to take a break from the usual! More...

To Naive in the Butchertown neighborhood last Sunday for its fast casual, farm-to-table menu.  Open for a little over a year, it serves lots of small plates and plenty of healthy food. When I first heard about Naive, it was described as a vegetarian restaurant.  As I checked out the menu, I was pleasantly surprised at the diversity of offerings. The couple who own Naive, moved here from Washington DC.  They picked Louisville because of its vibrant restaurant scene and the lack of "healthyish" food.I love cucumber vodka, so the Green Queen is a must as I get seated. For my starter, General Tso's Cauliflower, packing some Chinese heat.  A true signature. Top selling menu item.Although I was ready to order the Tuna Poke for my entree, my server Abby, recommended the Lamb Bolognese.  It was hearty, spicy and filling.Everything about this meal was spot-on.  Great server, superb food, quick service, fun environment and lots of value for your dollar. Came to Naive for a second time to show it off to my husband because my first experience was so wonderful and he fell in love with it just as much as I did! I love their all natural menu options and each item is served with such beauty. All of their options are locally sourced, organic, and fresh and you can tell a difference within the first bite of your meal. I had the chorizo bowl, formally known as the Cardi B burrito bowl (kind of bummed they changed the name), which I prefer with sautéed kale and my husband got the foundation bowl (potato hash, bacon, avocado, etc). Both were absolutely delicious. Sometimes with places that claim to be "healthy" or "organic" the options lack flavor or excitement, but Naive does a great job of bringing life to their menu options. The overall aesthetic of the restaurant is fresh and earthy, yet cozy and inviting. I think we may of found our new after-church brunch spot! More...

Why you should come: the food is really, really good, and they are tolerant and accepting of those with eating concerns. One of my friends has celiac disease. Not gluten intolerance. A legitimate allergy to gluten. Places like this are getting more common, but it is hard to go out and her be able to eat freely. She was so comfortable here and happy. It is just so awesome to see. I have been here maybe 4 times now. Every time the food keeps getting better. This last time for a ladies' brunch. They have bottomless mimosas for $12. Whaaaa I had to function for the day so I stayed away. I settled on a blueberry pomegranate mojito with kombucha. Wow. It was incredible. We got a couple shared plates to start. The hummus and the Tso's cauliflower. The hummus is delicious and in all honesty, just hummus. But the cauliflower is something special. Spicy, flavorful, with crispy bits of lightly fried kale and rice puffs with a sprinkling of pickled green beans. For the main courses we had the lemon matcha pancakes which were so incredible. Light, fluffy with the perfect amount of lemon brightness. We all shared that and could not stop eating. Breakfast tacos were so filling, but were probably the least exciting of the orders. The chorizo bowl was delicious as well. Sweet potato and regular potato base with peppers mixed with chorizo. A side of potatoes accidentally came out and those were so different from the hash. Whatever oil they use to sautee these veggies in, I really need it. The seasoning/oil is so good. The sweet potato biscuit stole the show for me. I got 2 and brought 1 home for my husband. He could not stop singing its praises. I don't want biscuits any other way. The service is why I cannot give 5 stars. This brunch did not need to last 2 hours. I understand they are going through growing pains. They went from counter service to full service. They either need more servers or the servers need to be taught efficiency. We did not mind bc we were enjoying ourselves, but there were a lot of angry customers yelling trying to get the servers' attentions and just finally chasing them down. It really messes with the ambience of the place. Other people have spoken to how beautiful the space is. It truly is so light and bright. The servers need to learn how to make the round to check on all tables in one trip. A lot of wasted steps, in my opinion. It really makes life much easier for the server and guests involved. More...

Naive wins my loyalist and will win yours as above average, locally sourced, as much organic, natural, and as vegan accommodating as possible with new American food and decent quality. Naive is table service, rotating menu, freshly made food, with full bar, great service, accommodating food and drinks service and is a good neighborhood location that is suitable for dates, meeting, friends get together, or just causal. Add to that plenty of deserts. We tried this place 3 times prior to this review. The concepts are amazing but sometime the applicability can take a hit. The curry chicken salad for example could be a 5/5 taste wise but the sandwich will fall apart and become messy due to the bread texture and the fact that it is open from both sides. The sweet potatoes are freaking good and are served with curry ketchup that I never liked until I got here. The tuna poke, was average or a little above but if you had the Limbo tuna poke, this one will not hit the spot. The orange cauliflower were tasty, can't say above or below average because they are first to be served or tried here but definitely 4/5 for those and are served with perfectly cooked green beans, whole with great texture. Lastly, we tried the shroom burger, this was a 3/5, dry, but the taste was different and not boring at all. The drink menu changes seasonally but as mentioned above the team here will accomdibate and make the best they can from what they have. Naive has wonderful cocktails using fresh ingredients and juices. So different! I opted for non-alcohol and got a tea with CBD instead. Delish, and I could see the CBD added in; it was quite plentiful. Husband got a curried chicken salad sandwich which he said was one of the best chicken salads he's had. The bread it came on was delicious but a little hard to eat as a sammy. I got the tuna poke bowl and it was plentiful and fresh. Every ingredient listed on the menu was actually in the bowl (down to the minor details like toasted sesame seeds) which I appreciated. It was just super good. Our bartender/waiter was very friendly. I've been wanting to go to Naive since it opened because of their wide variety of food for different diets. I was planning a bachelorette weekend and decided to start out here for brunch. I made reservations just to make sure we had enough seating over a month in advance and called to confirm a couple days in advance. When we got there they couldn't find the reservation. I was annoyed but there was a table available that could accommodate everyone so we sat down to wait for everyone and check out the menu. While we were sitting at our table we got asked by a waitress if others were going to join us, a large group had just come in so I think they wanted to move us which added to my annoyance since I had made reservations. We had to go to the bar to order our drinks which was pretty full. The water was tucked away in the corner of the bar right by someone's seat which seemed awkward. Once we were ready to order our food we went up to the food counter to order and were told since we had already ordered from the bar we would need to order our food there. Another annoying thing. I feel it would be so much easier if they would just take your order at the table. We were walking all over the place to get what we needed and it was crowded. After we got our drinks and ordered everything settled down and we could finally relax. I got the vegan Kale and Artichoke dip. It was good but could use a bit more flavor or "cheesiness". I also got the vegan General Tso's Cauliflower which was really good. I did get a bit sick of the flavor after eating a good portion of it so it would be great to share along with something else. Even the most picky eater was able to find something and everyone liked their food and the mimosas. I also had to write out how the tickets should be separated since everyone's was put on one ticket. Seems like they should have been able to figure that out. I felt like the customers should be getting tips for all the work we had to do to get food and drinks. I would definitely come back but not on a Saturday or Sunday morning. I would actually give Naive 3.5 stars. I feel a few changes would make this an amazing restaurant! More...

This place has  5-star service and food. I called in to place a takeout order, but the menu had just changed that very day, so many of the things I saw on their menu online were no longer available. The person over the phone actually texted me a photo of their brand new menu so I could look it over and decide what else looked enticing. That is top notch service. I also showed up with a food allergy question and the two chefs working in the kitchen were able to answer me directly - you can get any more assurance than that!I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and I also got to try the General Tso's cauliflower. The cauliflower was indulgent without feeling unhealthy, with great sweet/acidic/salty flavors, slightly crunchy with a very thin coating of breading (or something). The pulled pork had SO MUCH pork packed in between the ciabatta bun. I would have preferred the pork to be a bit more shredded, as it was pretty messy to eat and somewhat difficult to take a clean bike without dragging a big chunk of pork out and flopping all over your chin (you can picture it, right?). The ciabatta bun was dense and chewy, the pickles and onions were salty and cut the fat of the pork well. Oh! And the sweet potato fries I got with the sandwich were great too. Just a simple sea salt seasoning made them a great complement to the meal.I didn't get to stay in and dine, but the decor outside and inside was really cool - kinda Scandinavian, bright interior with lots of light, lots of soft wood accents. Also yummo. Has a little kick to it, which is what you get with a pad Thai. Not as peanutty as you'd expect. But it was really tasty. And you get a lot. It was pretty hearty.
