What’s your signature dish?
MJE specializes in all things soul food, but don't let that scare you if that isn't what interests you! We have over 120 menu items and only about 20% of those are soul food. We put every menu item through a 5 point test to determine if it makes our menu so you can ensure you'll only get the best of the best of what we have to offer.
Our test asks our quality control team the following:
-Is there limited feedback from quality control at MJE regarding the look and taste of this item?
-Are the ingredients fresh and able to be locally sourced?
-Is it an item that presents well/pleasing to the eye?
-Will the look and taste hold up after more than 2 hours on a buffet line?
-If this item contains any of the top 7 allergens named by the FDA food code, is it able to be recreated in a way that is still tasty for guests? If not, is there a menu item that is similar, without the allergen, that can be recommended?
How do you go about creating the perfect menu for your clients?
Mercedes Jo Events is a "have it your way service". We have created a menu with only our best dishes and our clients have the ability to put together packages from our menu that best suits their guests. We provide quality menu items at an affordable and competitive a la carte price. You know your crowd and your event theme better than we do, so we price this way so you can build a package that best suits your needs instead of us boxing you into a package deal that doesn't really work for your group. You can order as many or as few (really 15) of any menu item you desire. We run regular specials and promotions - ask us what we have cookin' this month!
What do you love most about your job?
I enjoy every detail that goes into preparing for an event. From purchasing fresh and quality ingredients, to building flavor profiles, and creating amazing dishes. The biggest highlight is actually seeing my clients or their guests take the first bite and fall in love. It's truly satisfying!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I've had a passion for food since a young age. It wasn't long before my family and friends made me the go-to cook for all of our events. I've found a way to blend my passion with skill and create an amazing career for myself and others.
