This place was probably an old warehouse or shipping dock back in the days. Today, it is open and looks very spacious for people to rent for events. I went here for an Asian wedding which meant the 10 course meal was catered in from outside vendor. The open bar was in-house so that went very well and smooth. However, since it was a traditional 10 course meal, the servers at this place didn't let the caterers serve their own food to the guests thus these servers were under staffed and were very slow in getting the food out to all the tables in a timely manner. Some tables were onto their 6th/7th course while many others were still on their 3rd/4th course. For example, there were two servers going table to table scooping soup into each small bowl. If it were the caterer serving, they would normally put the big bowl of soup down on each table and scoop it into the small bowls very fast and efficiently thus freeing the unnecessary 2nd person to serve other tables. I think this place charges a 30% serving fee as they didn't provide any food whatsoever. As for the opened bar, it was in-house drinks and alcoholic beverages so the host of the party would have to pay for all the drinks and probably another 30% serving fee.Therefore, if you're looking for a spacious place to host your party at, this is the place for it and serving American single plate food. Minneapolis Event Centers - Grand 1858I cannot say enough great things about this venue! Needless to say, the space is absolutely stunning, and we LOVED that the Grand 1858 has three separate spaces to break up the event and provide options for your guests to spend their evening in. But that you can tell from pictures!Our ceremony was outside in the courtyard and let me tell you, this space looked like it was straight out of a fairy tale! Our wedding ceremony was at 6 PM on a Friday evening and there was absolutely no sound of traffic or construction that you might think there would be in an outdoor downtown Minneapolis setting. This space also fit our 210 wedding guests with ease!Outside of the physical space of the venue (which again, both my husband and I and ALL of our guests couldn't stop raving about how beautiful it is), the team at Minneapolis Event Centers and Entourage Event Groups is absolutely incredible. The communication from the moment we toured the venue to the weeks after our wedding was nothing short of flawless. Our coordinator was Ashley Nelson, and we met with her at least 5 different times for planning sessions that typically lasted 2 hours each. The attention to detail and care that the team at MEC displays for each of their couples is so genuine - they made this wedding planning experience much easier than it would have been without them.Ashley was with us starting the night before at our rehearsal dinner (which was hosted at another one of MEC's property's - The Mansion at Uptown, see separate review) and all day on the day of our wedding. She took care of all the little details, from communicating with our vendors, to helping set up decor, to queuing our wedding party down the aisle, to ensuring dinner went so smoothly. Her effort and time made this day so special for us.All of our guests raved about how delicious the food was (we offered the Champagne Chicken, Beef Medallions & Mushroom Risotto), how beautiful the space was, and how helpful the staff was. We attended a wedding and reception which was very nice. The dance floor was huge as was the bar area. The tables and decorations were very pretty. The food was very good. The Riverside Room at MEC was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for our special day! The space is so classy, elegant, premium, and beautiful! If you like a warehouse type feel, high ceilings, wood, exposed pipe and beams, this space is for you! We worked closely with Ashley Nelson throughout our planning process. Ashley is an absolute sweetheart. She made us feel so at ease, we trusted her in every aspect, and she even provided us with game changing ideas (indoor sparklers for our grand entrance for example) that helped make our day so unforgettable. The MEC Staff is also top notch, so many times at weddings you will experience a line at the bar, plates clinking during speeches, etc. Not at MEC...Everyone at MEC strives to make your day as special and as worry free as possible. We had met quite a few times before our wedding day with the planner so we knew the reception was going to be great but we just didn’t know how great! Our planner was all over everything and the dinner staff and bar tenders were top notch. Drinks were served quickly all night and the bartenders knew their stuff. The dinner staff was amazing and served salads and plates quickly for a room of 195. Food quality (apps, salad, dinner) was exactly like the tasting and received multiple compliments from our guests (we knew it would be good already). Price is competitive so that is not a differentiator for this venue, but the professionalism and experience from the staff and planner was amazing! We had no stress day of and just enjoyed the work we put in beforehand with MEC. The Grand venue was also PERFECT. Our wedding of almost 200 had our table space off the dance floor and everyone fit without any chair maneuvering in the tight spaces. Minneapolis Events Center was wonderful to work with! We got endless compliments on our reception! Ashley and our coordinator Melissa were professional, transparent, thoughtful, accommodating and truly cared about our needs. Both us as a couple, and each of our parents were treated so well. Communication was consistent, clear and timely and everything ran so smoothly the day of our wedding. We are SO HAPPY with our choice and would highly recommend to others!Additional Benefits and Positives:Day-of coordinator included to help with planning, day-of timeline, vendor communication, scheduling and setup (HUGE help!). This would cost a lot of money to hire out so the fact that this is included was hands down the most amazing benefit MEC offers. As a wedding vendor, it’s hard to find the perfect bridal room for hair and makeup but Minneapolis Event Centers is my all time favorite! Work had a large party there. Beautiful venue, delicious food (loved the mac and cheese with bacon and sundried tomatoes). Bar was a standard event bar. Staff were professional and efficient. Large room, but was cleverly divided into sections with scattered tables and food stations, so it never felt empty or imposing. I've been here for a business event and for a wedding. I love the interior, it has a rustic, industrial feel. Overall a very nice event space and it's convenient that there's a parking structure right across the street.
