This inn is perfect for a single night or a week when visiting the Shenandoah Valley, Luray Caverns or wine tasting. Perfectly located within a few minutes to take the Skyline Drive north or south from the Thornton Gap park entrance station. It is also very close to the Luray Caverns at the west end of town, and there are wineries all over- one of the best is CrossKeys Vineyards which has a bistro- go for lunch. ||Mimslyn is an older hotel, member of the Historic Hotels of America group, with all up to date conveniences. Enter thru large, heavy wooden double doors into large lobby with winding staircase, small bar and elevator. Beautiful Circa 31 dining room is open for breakfast (closes @ 10:30), lunch and sometimes dinner-not always. Breakfast is quite good & from menu or daily buffet- lots of fruit. Visit their Speakeasy for dinner which is smaller room, has a bar and small lounge area when waiting for table. Couple of nights has local singing talent. Menu is good comfort food and nearly every item has green beans-chef must have a bean farm ! If ordering out don't call the Dominico Italian Restaurant- they said 30-45 minutes for spaghetti & meatballs w salad & drinks for 2 people and it took 1-1/2 hours after calling them 2X, and they forgot the drinks!!||Our room (#310) was the largest we were told and had a living room with electric fireplace (w/thermostat), pull out sofa bed, flat screen tv, writing desk and coat closet. On the way to the bedroom you pass the large bathroom with deep, jet tub with shower (plenty of water pressure). Opposite the bathroom is a coffee station with mini-fridge. Then to the bedroom with very comfortable king-size bed and pillow top comforter, night stands, flat screen tv, a drawer chest and his & hers closets with large space for lots of clothes. Temperature control worked fine for a little heat the 3rd week October, and did not hear a sound.||This was a great room !||Getting off the elevator at 3rd floor you enter a large, quiet, sunroom w/ fireplace which is nice place to read or nap if don't want to stay in the room.||Staff is friendly and helpful.||This hotel is the place to stay. We were visiting the Shenandoh area for a few day's hiking around the Skyline Drive. Seen most of accommodation was closed at this time of the year at the Skyline Drive, we decided to stay in Luray at this hotel as we like some comfort. ||Luray is also just 10-15 minutes drive from a Skyline Drive entrance.||The hotel is back in time if you look to the whole, by which not is said that this is negative !||Its a "warm" comfortable hotel, room and bed were ok, only fan was little to loud, with outside minus 10 Celsius we had to heat the room with the fireplace in the room.||The breakfast is from the menu (no buffet) and this was fine too.||Service was fine, all questions or such were handled correctly and friendly.||We feel it is some overpriced for what you get. The wife and I came here for a celebration getaway, and let me tell you it was a great decision. The Mimslyn Inn is the true definition of southern hospitality. I did not meet a single staff member that didn’t make me feel like this was my home. Nia greeted us with the best smile and most five-star behavior I’ve seen in a long time from a hotel clerk. We were able to check into our room a little early, and the room was still spotless. You can tell the housekeeping does their job very well. The rooms are certainly historic in terms of size, but that’s what we came for, so I wasn’t disappointed at all, especially since they were kept up so well. Tim was a very kind gentleman who greeted us from the door before getting a bite to eat, just to make sure our stay was going great. A Hilton doesn’t offer that kind of courtesy. The restaurant downstairs was clean, fast, and very good. My compliments to the chef! The people at the Mimslyn Inn really know how to run a business, and we’ll be back before you know it. More...

We stayed at the Mislym Inn for four nights. When we arrived, they upgraded our room to a suite which was fantastic! Very clean, spacious, comfortable king bed and a separate living area. Great location.....Very close to Shenandoah national park for hiking. There is a dining room that was only serving dinner on weekends and a restaurant/bar downstairs with a full menu. Breakfast was not served everyday, but a variety of choices downtown. All-in-all a very pleasant week! Thank you Mislym! ! ! More...

Great location for Shenandoah and the caverns etc. We had a suite at the front of the hotel that was very spacious. It could do with a little TLC (fresh paint and bathroom grout) and the the shower was very weak. ||||The TV arrangement was a little strange. It is in a cupboard on the side wall. It pulls out and can be rotated towards the bed or the sofa. BUT the cable box remains in the cupboard. So you have to lean out of the RH side of bed to change channels etc. ||||The main restaurant doesn't open every night but the Speakeasy in the basement serves great food and drinks and had live music on 2 of the 3 nights we used it. ||||The WiFi required my iPhone to reconnect every time I used it and quite often also needing to re register.||||When being served butter at breakfast or dinner it is in lovely little swirls. Looks nice but more needed!||||And someone must like Frank Sinatra because he could be heard in the reception area and main restaurant (used for breakfast) throughout our entire four night stay More...

Get a suite! Me and my wife booked the last room they had, due to a late weekend getaway. When we got to the hotel, the front desk was friendly and gave us our key card. The room we had was a queen bed and was smaller than any other room I have ever stayed at in a hotel. We received a call from the front desk and we asked if anything came available we would like a different room that we would pay the difference. By the end of the night we got upgraded to the Roosevelt suite. This room as amazing. Next time we come we will book in advance to get this room again. Amazing. While visiting the Shenandoah area for the fall foliage we decided on the Mimslyn Inn as it is affiliated with the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown,WV where have have frequented a number of times over the years. ||The Mimslyn appears to be an older Greek Revival style hotel which had been renovated over the years.||The lobby and public areas are classy and appear to be popular for weddings and other events and the Inn is probably the top of the line in Luray.||We had breakfast in the lobby restaurant called Circa'31and it was very good as well as reasonable. There is a buffet but we opted for cook to order omelets' and were very happy with both the food and service.||Dinner at the Speakeasy Pub downstairs was both reasonable and good and the location was the best on a rainy night.||I cannot say enough about the professionalism and friendliness of the entire staff beginning with the front desk, the wait staff and the housekeeping staff who all work hard for the guests.||||The room (Historic Room) itself was starting to show some normal wear and tear and my sense is that it is scheduled for a facelift sometime in the future. It wasn't any problem just a few things that we noticed which is normal in any hotel.||One thing to point out is that the King bed had a very large headboard and foot board which took up a lot of extra space making maneuvering a little tight.||The television could have been attached to the wall instead of being located in the enormous entertainment center which would have freed up some space as well perhaps with the large night tables being replaced with smaller tables to open up the room a little.||The hotel was very quiet and the bed was very comfortable which added to a very restful night.||||All in all a very pleasant stay with a very nice staff and a very good value. On our trip to Laray caverns we stayed in the Mimslyn Inn. From a friendly greeting upon our arrival we knew our stay would be wonderful. Our room was a king size bed which was very comfortable. In the room we were offered a bottle of wine, opener and two engraved glasses for a small fee to relax in the room. At dinner we just went down to the restaurant for dinner which offered a good selection of dinner foods which were very tasty. Homemade potato chips and local beers are always a hit when starting a meal. The next morning we had coffee and homemade muffins in the foyer then off to the caverns. Returning in the evening after a full day of touring we found ourselves down stairs again for dinner because our previous nights dinner was so good. It was so easy to dine and have a couple of drinks and not worry about driving back to the hotel. Checked out to another friendly employee left us wishing to travel back to the Mimslyn in the future. I stayed at the Mimslyn Inn for one night while visiting Luray Caverns and Shenandoah National Park. The hotel was impressive when making the drive up the grassy hill and when entering the lobby with the Frank Sinatra music playing. I stay in the smallest and least expensive room on the third floor with a full size bed with wood frame. It had double doors leading to a balcony, but it had a deadlock on the doors preventing access. Instead there was a large outdoor terrace access on the same floor shared by all guests. It faced the rear of the hotel and the pool. The room was very quiet and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was a large for this small room. Most of the room was clean, but the bathroom was in serious need of dusting. There was a lot of dust and someone’s hair on top of the door casing. The baseboard was dusty and had a prior guest's hair sticking to it. That spoiled an otherwise pleasant stay. If the housekeeping issues are addressed, I would recommend this hotel. More...

Sitting atop a perfectly manicured lawn is the historic Mimslyn Inn. Serving guests since 1931, this grand dame still offers charm and grace. It was updated in 2008, but the rooms could stand a refreshing. ||We visited for one night and were assigned room 211. Upon entering, we were overwhelmed with a musty, moldy smell. We reported the smell to the front desk and someone came and sprayed an air freshener which only masked the smell. ||We were eventually moved and upgraded to a suite by a young man, Aaron. He was very helpful and understanding. Aaron went out of his way to see that we were completely satisfied. It was nice to feel appreciated and it was obvious Aaron had a good grasp of the service industry. If he chooses, he will go far in the business. The Mimslyn Inn is very fortunate to have Aaron. ||We didn't eat dinner at the inn, but we dined in the main dining room for breakfast. The food arrived as ordered and hot so we didn't have any complaints. Our server was friendly and efficient. ||We enjoyed sitting on the front porch in large rockers, sipping wine and talking with other guests. ||I would recommend the Mimslyn Inn. Our stay was great and we would definitely return. ||||The cottages are a short distance from the actual Inn. Our cottage appeared to be newly built, with a great front porch and full of modern amenities. There was a kitchen with a full size fridge and a stove. The bathroom was nice, with a jetted tub and an ample hot water supply (much appreciated after a day of hiking Shenandoah). We were able to park right in front of our cottage, which made unpacking easy and convenient.||||There is a pool near the cottages, and also another one at the Inn. In addition, there was a small shed near the pool that contained games. There was also a hammock and areas to sit outside. The grounds of the Inn are beautiful and it is easy to see why people have their weddings and events here. The inside of the Inn was quite elegant, and made us glad that we chose the cottages for our stay with our (loud and energetic) toddler.||||However, there were a few things that we didn't love: our bed was not level, and sleeping on a slant was uncomfortable and unsettling. Our door had only a standard lock in the doorknob (keypad with code), and no deadlock. This was a little strange for us, since all the hotels we stay in have some kind of deadlock. Our room's hair dryer was missing and so we called the front desk to ask for a replacement. We tipped the person who brought it to us, and he showed his displeasure with the amount, which was pretty rude.||||Overall, we loved our stay here and would return. More...
