Whilst classically trained, I also play in a couple of touring bands, so am equally comfortable teaching rock, pop and jazz as classical.
I am happy to teach both adults and children, as well as beginners to intermediate.
Most lessons are at my house in the Jersey Farm area of St Albans, but I am able to go to students' houses in certain circumstances.

I had only one lesson with Mike before lock-down started and lessons went online, so it's early days. By using technology creatively, Mike has kept me developing. I submit recordings, onto which he superimposes video commentary and sends back to me; this is very useful because I can keep going back to it. Even after lockdown, I might want to continue to do this. I am looking to explore wider than the ABRSM syllabus, I feel pretty confident that Mike will enable me to do this. Mike has been teaching me for nearly two years and my piano playing and understanding have improved. My only regret is that I wish he had been my teacher when I started having lessons 5 years ago. My 2 daughters have lesson from Mike over 2 years now. I am very happy how they have progressed so well and my elder daughter can play some of my favourite pop musics, that really makes me happy and proud of her.

Mike started teaching our then 7 year old son last year, and he has now progressed through grade 1. Mike is super patient and sets a really good tone perfect for motivating our son to learn.
Since lockdown has started Mike has set remote learning, where we upload and receive valuable feedback on videos between lessons. Mike has clearly invested in some excellent software, meaning we continue to receive excellent value for money.

I had not played the piano for about 40 years when I saw Mike's advert. He has been teaching me for six months during which time I feel I have developed my playing skills and I have a far greater appreciation of the technical side of music. What do you love most about your job?
I have got so much pleasure from playing the piano over the years that I wanted to give something back and help others to get the same enjoyment.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have always enjoyed being 'master of my own destiny'. Running my own business allows me a certain amount of freedom to enjoy my other pursuits in life, and also to perform with my bands that tour the UK.
Why should our clients choose you?
I have a good all-round knowledge of piano and keyboards having been classically trained to Grade 8 level, but now performing in two bands across the country. The bands I play in perform a variety of musical genres and I am able to better teach these styles to the students who wish to learn contemporary music.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
I offer lessons both face-to-face and remotely online. The COVID lockdown forced many changes on us, and I now use software specifically written for conducting online music lessons.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
I have done a full risk assessment for COVID and, outside of lockdown, face-to-face lessons are able to continue at my house. Students wash their hands on entry and do not cross over in my house. All equipment and surfaces are sanitised on a regular basis.
