After learning the piano as a child I decided to take up lessons again and started working with Ian about 18 months ago. What can I say… he’s fantastic! Ian is a highly accomplished, talented pianist and an excellent teacher who is passionate about his instrument. He has exceptional musical knowledge and uses effective, intuitive teaching methods.

Over the last 18 months I have focused on theory, technique and sound production and I’m now playing things I wouldn’t have dreamed of playing a year ago which is testament to Ian’s expertise, professionalism (and patience!). Lessons are well structured, fun and punctuated with the right level of humour making them thoroughly enjoyable.

Ian’s always willing to go the extra mile for his students and gave me some hugely helpful advice when buying a new piano (even coming to the shop with me). I came back to learning piano about a year ago after not playing for more than 20 years and didn't know what to expect in terms of how much I could realistically improve. Under Ian's patient guidance the change in my playing has been beyond anything I imagined possible. Ian's approach to technique, practicing and performing is intuitive and very effective and has given me the confidence to tackle more and more challenging pieces believing that with his help I will get there eventually. In just under a year of lessons from Ian, I experienced significant improvement in many aspects including: piano technique, sight reading, & sound production.

Ian is very focused and very encouraging, and makes the lessons fun as well as serious music. It's great to work with someone with a sense of humour, and who knows such a huge amount about the wider subject, and I feel I've learned a lot about music and composers, alongside learning to play better. He's also extremely flexible about times, always willing to try and accommodate a difficult week, which is really helpful if you're juggling family and work commitments. More...
