I normally like this shop and the flowers they provide, and have since the time they were Stapleton's - thus the four stars. The one I just received 2 days ago, however, was not the usual standard. For example, the hydrangeas had totally wilted because their stems were not cut - woody stems need to have a slit in them so water gets to the flower head. Within one day these were gone.  A florist should know that - it takes very little effort and helps the flowers last for a long time. Same with lilacs. This flower shop really came through. I was in a pinch to get a gift basket/care package made. I called at 4pm and asked if there was any way they could have one ready the next morning by 9am. I came here on a friend's recommendation for flowers for the birth of my cousin's child.  I didn't pre-order, I just had a visual in the back of my head around what I wanted, and what I wanted to spend. Michela (I'm assuming) was busily working away on a set of arrangements for an event the next day in the back.  She was friendly, knowledgeable, and told me what could be done for my price point, and that the style I wanted was appropriate for the functionality I needed (nothing with a tall vase, short and full, safe for a hospital room, but easy to transport afterwards).  She had me pick a few types of flowers, and told me to come back in half an hour, and she'd be ready for me.I took the opportunity to stroll around downtown and get a little shopping done, and when I returned, she'd put together a beautiful arrangement, actually a touch more ostentatious than I'd anticipated, but still just what I would have wanted.  The price was very fair, and I was able to transport it with ease. I dropped in today for a special bouquet for a unique occasion. I described the recipient as well as what I wanted the flowers to communicate.  The person working in the shop (Michaela?) told me she was backed up, AND her delivery person was out, but still managed to work me in, and the flowers were glorious. She told me about how she had thought it through and even collaborated with me to add a little bit more to make it extra beautiful. This is my first yelp post hopefully of many. I just got married last weekend and have so much to share! Michaela did our wedding flowers last Saturday at the Rengstorff House. She made my bouquet + 5 bridesmaids, boutonnieres  for groom, groomsmen, officiant, & parents, centerpieces, petals for the aisle and flower girls, and flowers for the cake. We did not need much because the venue was outdoors and beautiful already; we wanted flowers that would match the ambiance. We chose her primarily because she did such an amazing job at my sister's wedding (see her post back on 9/26/09) and we all know how important a great recommendation can be! I also remember her prices being surprisingly reasonable for my sister's wedding, which was elegant and classy, not overdone or extravagant. She owns a small shop off University Ave., which I feel I've seen there since I was a kid (I grew up in the area). She's highly experienced in what she does and has a great eye for matching styles and colors. She has her own system, using what seems like just a paper notebook. I was a little nervous that she may forget my order, but whatever she does seems to work well for her because she was always able to locate my order without a problem.I went to meet with Michaela for the first time last summer for my own wedding and she did not disappoint. We had talked over the phone a few times before that, as I had to plan my wedding from Boston. Michaela is really warm and personable, and she didn't try to push anything extra on me which is always nice when trying to find the right vendor. In fact, she helped me figure out ways to cut costs given my budget! For example, she gave me the idea of leaving some centerpiece vases empty and having my bridesmaids place their bouquets in the vases during the reception as personal centerpieces. Cuts down the number of centerpieces I had to order and gives my bridesmaids a place to put their bouquets. She even let me borrow vases at no extra cost! There were several other little tips and things she offered to do along the way that just made me feel taken care of; she felt very genuine and was focused on what would work for me rather than what would be convenient for her.While I locked down the date with her months in advance, I don't think we solidified anything until just a month or so before the wedding. I have a difficult time making decisions, and I was able to change my order a couple of times without a problem. At one point I even changed my entire look (going from just roses and delphinium, to a colorful arrangement of white and yellow daisies, pink roses, blue and purple delphinium). She didn't send me an invoice or ask for a deposit in the beginning, which at first made me a little nervous, but in meeting her I realized the vibe is more like working with a friend (i.e. we trust each other to do what we need to do). I even took a picture of the her handwritten order in the beginning so I could have a copy with the general pricing -- her prices didn't change at all at the end, the only thing added was delivery/setup fee and tax which was all reasonable.TIP: When you work with her, I recommend asking for her email address. I think she's the only one working in the shop, so if you get her on the phone she may be with another client or trying to fill an order. Interacting w/ her over email was really efficient and easy, and more convenient for me given the time difference.By the time I arrived at the wedding venue, she already had everything set up and ready to go. So beautifully arranged, I was incredibly happy with the result. I saw that she had placed extra flowers in areas that needed it but I didn't explicitly order (e.g. guestbook table, sweetheart table), no charge. She also brought little flower girl baskets with petals which were just perfect for the event. I ordered a plant arrangement to be delivered to my friend at a hospital. The lady who took my order on the phone was super helpful. I told her if she make the arrangement extra special and happy...my friend was extremely happy when she got it! She said it was fabulously beautiful! The website erroneously said that it was not too late to order flowers for Mother's Day. When the error was brought to the attention of the owner around noon, he handled it superbly. Although he was already overcommitted for deliveries on that day, he made sure that a bouquet was delivered by the end of the day. And the bouquet was much better than what had been ordered. As a result, although I'm disappointed in the quality of the website, I give this place extraordinarily high marks for flowers and for customer service. Can't tell you how impressed I was with this place. The gal working in the back (I assume the owner)  was in the middle of a huge order for a much more important customer then little old me. .. When I told her I was looking for an arrangement for my mother in law's room at Lytton Gardens she dropped everything and put together a beautiful and more than generously priced arrangement for me. Michaela just did all the bouquets (9!) the bridal bouquet, and 12 boutonniers for my wedding. They were BEAUTIFUL, and very reasonably priced--thank you Michaela! !! I had to coordinate with her from my permanent residence in Chicago, while the wedding was in nearby Woodside. I sent her detailed descriptions, photo inspirations, etc., along with the ribbon I wanted her to use for the bouquets and boutonniers. She was so friendly, helpful, and easygoing throughout. Ordered some flowers for my wife's birthday and on the day of delivery, we got something completely different from what I had ordered. I called to complaint and spoked with the owner, Michaela.  She was very gracious and apologized profusely.  She found out that her supplier at the delivery address, for some reason, decided to send whatever they had instead of what was ordered without notifying her.  She offered to make it right by re-making a new order based on what I had originally ordered free of charge.  I was very pleased with the way she handled the situation.  Will definitely give my business to this shop in the future. Michaela provided the most gorgeous flowers for my wedding at the Thomas Fogarty Winery this past weekend! She is such a talented florist, and the flower arrangements were just as breath taking as the view up in the winery. Ordered flowers to be delivered same day. I'm not sure what happened to the flowers, which were delivered to an office building (couldn't be given to the actual recipient directly)--but my friend never got them. However, I was very happy with how accommodating the florist was in resolving the issue--when I called the next morning, they offered to go over to the office building and check on it, and I think they may have just delivered a new set of flowers. They never gave me a hard time and were extremely professional. I just got a texted picture of the bouquet from my friend, the arrangement looks exactly like the image on the company's website. My first order from Michaela's Flower Shop was for a coworker's birthday. I ordered in February for the flowers to be delivered the day before her birthday, 3/19. However, the flowers arrived the next day, which was 2/19. That's a month in advance, even though the card itself was dated correctly. I called the shop to inquire about the mix-up. I don't know if the person I spoke to on the phone was Michaela herself, but she was absolutely outstanding. As soon as I stated the flowers were delivered in the wrong month, she announced immediately that it was "obviously [her] mistake" and offered a free redelivery on the correct date or a refund. She sounded unbelievably friendly and accessible. Her voice even made me smile.I accepted the refund (figuring that another delivery for the same occasion might be a little too much) and when I called to confirm it had been processed, she said yes and asked again if I would like a free redelivery. That was incredible, considering I'd already taken a refund! She'd already made up for her mistake, so topping it really drove home that she cared. I didn't take a free redelivery; I did use Micahaela's Flower Shop again to deliver a small plant I wanted on my desk, and paid for it.The quality of both the plant and early flowers were lush, beautiful, and perfectly arranged. I love that the floral arrangements are gorgeous and the customer service feels like a generous friend. I got my wedding flowers from Michaela. She was very nice and professional and her prices are very reasonable for the quality and service. I definitely suggest meeting with her, especially because she'll work with you and understands a budget. Michaela worked with me to develop a centerpiece that was a little different than a normal bunch of flowers in a  vase, instead it was succulents in a  wood box with moss and little flowers tucked in as well. Long distance planning for wedding flowers can be daunting.  But the minute I talked to Michaela, I started to relax. I sent her photos of what the bride wanted and ideas for the maids. Almost every single wedding guide says you have to allocate 10% of your budget toward flowers and that was an appalling figure to us. We wanted nice flowers, but we were not ready to spend an exorbitant amount on them. This is where Michaela came in and saved our flower situation. She was recommended by a friend who also used Michaela as her wedding florist and I could not be more grateful. Setting up an appointment with her was easy and during our meeting, she took careful notes of everything that we wanted including the budget, the color scheme of our wedding, and the types of flower arrangements that we needed. To make sure that the flowers were up to our expectations, she even made us a free sample of our centerpiece (very thoughtful!). My fiancé ordered flowers online at Proflowers the last time he sent me "just because" flowers and I received a bunch of ugly filler flowers that were half dead. I think the order was fulfilled at a local florist in Menlo Park called Cindy's. Awful...their yelp reviews say it all. The picture I sent him of the flowers made him so sad.This time for by birthday, he was determined that I would get beautiful flowers so he did a yelp search and found Michaela's Flowers. He walked into the store and worked with Michaela herself so that he can be assured I would get an awesome bouquet. He told her he wanted a bouquet of cala lilies and peonies (my two favs) and he wanted the colors to be pink and white.When the secretary brought the flowers to my desk my first impression was that the arrangement was HUGE it was definitely a lot better quality than the last flowers I received. The colors weren't very "me" but I just assumed he had picked a general arrangement online. When I sent him a picture of the flowers to thank him and tell him how much I love them his first response was "why are there purple flowers in the bouquet?" There is indeed a lot of purple irises. There were also  "pink" roses that are very very dark hot pink and only a couple peonies that are burgundy/red. The peonies were all bulbs when the flowers arrived too. They finally bloomed and are pretty, too bad the rest of the flowers are dead now though.HMMM...Definitely not the light pink/white bouquet that he ordered. He also saw some pink and polka dot ribbon at the store and asked the owner if she could add the ribbon because I love polka dots. She said sure no problem and he left the store very happy with the service he received. Only problem is...the bouquet did not have the polka dot ribbon.Overall he thought the service was good, but he REALLY wanted to show me how much attention to detail he put into ordering the flowers. He wanted me to receive the flowers and go WOW that's perfectly me. It's a nice bouquet but I hate purple and I hate red....so failed in execution. I still love them though because I know how much thought my fiancé put into it.Edit:Changing my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars. I received a BEAUTIFUL pink and white bouquet of peonies and cala lilies from the owner with a handwritten note. When I texted the photo of the flowers to the soon to be hubby it made him so happy! he says it's exactly what he imagined it would be when he ordered it. We just closed on our home this morning and got the keys to our new place so the flowers just make both of our days that much better! I was buying flowers for Prom and was looking for a good local florist that would have superior flowers to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods.  This was way better and was affordable for me (a relatively cheap high school student).Michaela was really helpful and actually told me when more flowers would be coming in so I could choose from a larger selection.  She made the bouquet according to my input, changing it up several times.I now recommend this place to all my friends who were going to buy from Trader Joe's etc.  There's nothing wrong about Trader Joe's, it's just these flowers are so much better. I ordered flowers from Michaela's Flower Shop for Valentines Day. I used the online menu and had some early problems with my order being received by the flower shop. I called up to make sure everything was in order but unfortunately I was double billed. Michaela called me back after the confusion and she was very kind about making sure the correction would be made as soon as possible. This business has one of the highest levels of customer service I have ever experienced. If it was not for the online experience I would have given it 5 stars. I had to order flowers on behalf of my boss. We are located in Los Angeles but the recipients live in Palo Alto. I looked through Yelp and found Michaela's Flower Shop and used her based on all the glowing reviews. I'm so glad I did! The arrangements online were beautiful. I called her up instead of using the website because I needed to pay with 2 gift cards and it was easier that way. She is so delightful to talk to on the phone and she was so helpful in putting together the arrangement. She was out of some of the flowers for the one I selected (Now and Zen) but called up her flower distributor (who was also out of them) but they made a special trip that day to pick them up. I cannot emphasize enough the great customer service she provided. I also got an email from my boss this morning saying that his friends LOVED the arrangement and thanked me for marking him and his partner look so good.
