Michael and Son's provides awesome servicer. Today I had Troy Coffey and Carlos Carcamo install toilet and garbage disposal hardware. They came in right on time and were knowledgeable and courteous. I was particularly impressed with Troy Coffey's extensive experience and knowledge. He explained my options from my viewpoint and didn't just try to sell or upsell me expensive repairs and hardware. I now have working systems and a good idea of what parts may need repairs in the next few years and how they will fail. It was textbook service. I see them as my go-to HVAC service from here on out. Needed them to inspect an HVAC system for a home one of my clients was buying. Joe did a great job diagnosing the issues but the company who we are buying the house from has their own crew to fix it and when i asked Michael & Sons to come re-inspect their work they would not come back because they had not fixed it themselves. The fellow who came to diagnose it the first time was awesome and very thorough but now they will not come re-inspect this company’s crew performance because Michael and Sons did not do the work. My question is what is the difference of paying for an inspection a first time or a follow up time? Being I. I have had nothing but excellent service from these guys. I live in a condo in DC and they have successfully serviced apartments with plumbing and HVAC systems. Four people have used them in my building and really liked them. The guys are responsive, professional, friendly, and reasonably priced. They replaced a toilet for me and did an excellent job. I had them price a bathroom reno for me and the estimate was cheaper than Home Depot's. So, they're honest. I am going to have to replace my HVAC this year - and do the bathroom reno, so I will be doing both with Michael & Sons. Saturday I was faced with the problem of intermittent power outages and not able to determine root cause. I called two other Electric companies and Energy Electric company. Unable to get any viable solution for my efforts, I called M&SS and provided an appointment time. Mark with M&SS was at my home one hour before the appointment time and was very professional. I would HIGHLY recommend Michael & Sons Company. We've used them multiple times in the past 3 months for water damage repair. Their workers are kind, professional, knowledgeable and honest. Big kudos   to Kevin Gooch- he's phenomenal plumber. Also Thomas C. Is a fabulous HVACC guy and found an issue with our AC Unit flooding that saved us problems down the road as well as noticed sagging ductwork under our house that needed to be replaced. We had our heat pump replaced last summer.Michael & Son came through with:A quick, no-nonsense quote.Same week installation.10 year warranty.Duke power energy credit submitted on our behalf.They did have to come back twice to make some minor corrections, but those were both handled next day. Here's what I really liked about Michael & Son:  I've noticed that in lean times, most HVAC guys will often price aggressively and provide adequate service.  Then when times are good, you can't even get a return call back from most HVAC companies.  Service is spotty, prices are high, etc.  My experience with Michael and Son was FAR BETTER.  Even in the economic prosperity of 2018, Michael and Son came through with great service and great prices. Michael and Son was recommended by a friend. I had a plumbing leak on a Saturday and the plumber David was great about coming to repair. He also noticed mold so called and got mold and water remediation scheduled to come out that night! Brian the remediation was great too. Got to my home at 9:30 that same Saturday night! I have been so impressed with Michael and Son and the workers I have encountered that they are now my go to for plumbing, electrical and heating. Hello from The Parrish Family in Mechanicsville, I placed a call to Michael and Sons to come out and take a look at my hot water heater, We had no hot water..They promptly came and took a look and told me it was the pilot light, guess the wind had blown it out, but also asked me who had worked on it before , I told them who had been here and they informed me that the wrong pipes had been used and asked if I had been seeing little black specks in my bathtub, I replied Yes I have! Michael and Sons quoted me a price of right at 700.00 to get the job done right, I told them I would get them to fix it later because my husband was terminally ill and the heater would have to wait as Hospice was taking care of my husband, They said they understood and left only to return 5 minutes later and said Mrs.Parrish we are going to fix your pipes For Free !!! Several weeks after hurricane Florence, I noticed a musty smell coming from the front wall in my master bedroom. Called Michael & Son today, and a technician came out the same day to assess the damage! Robert, the gentleman who came to my home was the utmost professional, honestly and thoroughly inspected the house, and immediately devised an action plan for mold abatement. Robert completely explained the process, all the way from how the drying process works to how the damaged materials are going to be removed, and the structure treated with antimicrobials. The quote was better than any of your competitors, as was the timeline for completion! Looking forward to getting this moldy insulation out, and for the first time, I can honestly say that I feel completely at ease putting my home and health in the hands of a company I’ve never hired prior to now. My mother had to have duct work and a replacement unit installed. The 2 techs started on Monday and didn’t finish until Wednesday. I understand removing the old and installing the new is a 2 day process; no issues with that. The issue I have is that they installed a thermostat which was defective. They did not have a back up on the truck and had to return a 3rd day. The techs arrived on day 3 and installed the new thermostat. I stopped by to check out the work and I noticed that the brass vent cover that WAS in her kitchen is now a p.o.s. generic vent cover. Called Michael &Sons and the tech said he would bring it back 1st thing this morning, before starting his 1st job. He is now in the middle of his first job and has not returned the brass vent cover. He offered no explanation as to why he took the brass vent cover to begin with... I have been working for a cable company and providing service to customers for the last 10 years; and have never stolen anything from a customer’s home. I also make sure that I have multiple devices on my truck as back up in case the 1st one doesn’t work. I have lost all faith in the customer service aspect of this company. More...

We few years ago we had a major problem. Our water heater, HVAC unit went out additionally we had water damage. I called Micheal & Son to alleviate getting several contractors. I was given a quote to do all the work. At first like most I thought quote was high but to get it done correctly and quickly it was worth it..long story..we had constant problems with outdoor water heater unit..living in NC Micheal & son drove everytime I called. Finally they replaced the entire unit..The water heater was defective not the technician. it's been almost 2 years. My HVAC stopped cooling on a 100° day. I called bc I am a current customer I was quickly placed on the schedule and within 8 hours I had cook air. The technician found a faulty part but was able to get unit running as we await new part. I cant say enough about Rodney a manager and the technician today Matt. One of their owners even reached out to me from Maryland during my water heater drama. During a termite inspection, the inspectors went in the basement and checked the furnace room. To my surprise, there was a lot of water leaking from the furnace area. I immediately called Michael & Son and they sent Tim Roberts out within about 15 minutes (the termite inspectors were still here. That's how fast it was). Upon inspecting the furnace, he discovered the leak was coming from the condensate drain in the floor. Although he was not a plumber, he took the time to try and help us unclog the drain [unsuccessfully] before he requested a plumber from Michael & Son. He went above and beyond to help us and did not charge us since the problem was not an HVAC problem. He scheduled for a plumber to come out asap [emergency call] since we couldn't run the air conditioner (because the drain was clogged). He explained the silver and gold package that M&S offers for regular maintenance and we will consider signing up for one of those. This was the best customer service we have EVER received. Tim was knowledgeable, courteous and very helpful. Within 30 minutes, the plumber, Donald Monroe, from M&S called. He was all the way in Winchester, so he made a few suggestions to me after I described the problem to him. He had me try using a plunger on the drain pipe. Unbelievably, it worked! He saved me a ton of money for something that was a simple fix that I could do myself. He was professional, knowledgeable, kind and had a great sense of humor. I have had a horrible experience with Micheal and sons. I understood with the holiday weekend the initial delay on ordering parts but now here we are an additional two days later and I still don't have a repair. The technician did not anticipate needing the housing unit to what he was repairing and we were told that it was a "common" part that would be in stock. He did not verify this and this morning it was not available. so, we will be without a/c for a week. The technician admitted it was his fault for not foreseeing the issue. So, they admit is was their fault for the delay yet a supervisor will not call us back despite the fact that we have asked twice. My daughter has Eczema and has been suffering with a flare this entire time because she gets irritated and itchy every time she goes upstairs to take a bath. They at least have given us a window unit which can cool one room but we are all stuck in there. Did they really think it would cool my whole house? I've never written a review before until now, however, I felt like this was necessary given the unacceptable level of customer service. I scheduled an electrical appointment for 16AUG18 for an electrical track light that was inoperative. The window of time was 12-4PM for the electrician to show up. At 4:02 I received a call from the electrician stating he was looking for parking, which was after the window. There was a front desk concierge all day awaiting for the electrician to monitor parking for him. She left at 3:30 PM after not hearing from the company. At 4:47, the electrician called and said he couldn't find any parking, so was going to go home. I picked 16AUG18 because I have a dog and didn't want her in the apartment while I had people coming in to do work. I had to reschedule because the electrician couldn't find any parking and kept giving me attitude about being unable to park on the street. This is downtown DC. Everyone parks on the street and it doesn't take four hours to find parking; it certainly doesn't help to call the customer and be rude about it either. Thinking it was a one time thing, I called the company and they rescheduled him to come out on 19AUG for a priority visit. The window was anytime on Sunday, so I made sure to be available at my apartment the entire day. I received a call from the electrician at 2:24 PM saying he was finding parking and would be here shortly. I called him at 5:05 PM and asked where he was, since it doesn't take two and a half hours to find parking. He said he was still looking for parking and kept refusing to park in a parking garage. I gave him frequent streets that have open parking and he continued to give me attitude about parking. It is now 5:25 PM and still nothing from the electrician. This is the second time he's done this to me and I am really appalled at the attitude of this electrician as well as the company employing him. No customer should have to reschedule twice for a simple house call. No customer should have to receive attitude from an electrician about parking, particularly if they had been here on time the first day, where it was reserved and available for them to park. It is now 5:28 PM on Sunday and there is still no electrician here and plenty of street parking. At this point, the repairs should be done first thing Monday morning by a different electrician and at a discounted rate. Extremely disappointed in this company and their customer service. More...

It's a Saturday and I have water in my basement underneath and around the furnace. The technician came today, clearly showed me where the problem was and suggested two devices that will 1) keep me from getting a wet basement next time and 2) allow me to clean out the drain line (it was clogged) without having to call for service. Our technician, Shyam Krishna Shrestha, was friendly, knowledgeable, found the problem almost immediately and added the protection components in short order. I was very pleased with the service. Here's where we stand right now. We've been long time customers of Michael and Son and have been happy with their services until now. Hello, your HVAC department came to our house last Monday, July 30 because our air conditioner was making a horrific noise. My husband was told that day that we would be on a VIP fast track to have the part ordered and the repair done ASAP because your company just installed the AC motor last year on 8/22/17. He was told it would be about 2 days to get the part and 2 days or so to schedule the repair. In the intervening NINE DAYS, we have received no communication from anyone at Michael and Son and when we call to find out what's going on, nobody in Customer Service has any information and no one in the parts department will answer their phone to update us about whether the part has even been ordered. The average temperature in our house in the last nine days has been 87 degrees. The part and the repair is under warranty. If I call a different company to do the repair that your company appears to be unwilling to do or even to communicate with us about, will you reimburse them - as it's still under warranty with you? Please respond ASAP. Update: We finally heard from your company. We were informed that the part will not be in until NEXT MONDAY (2 weeks from the initial visit from the rep.) and that the repair will not be under warranty and will cost $817 to fix. Then, we received a PDF via email that says that it IS covered by warranty. Since nothing anyone has told us during this whole process has proven to be true, I have no idea what to think. I did try to call "Maurice" to speak to the customer service liaison whose number is included in the responses to negative reviews on this page and I got his voice mail. The mailbox is full and I was not able to leave any message which fits right into the whole horribly rotten customer service we've received during this hideous process I've contacted another company to come look at the unit to do the repair. I'm in the real estate department business and I have worked with many HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors.  Here's the first big reason why I call Michael & Sons...Competence, and it starts on your first call for service.  The questions they asked can only come from someone with a good bit of construction experience.  In my experience elsewhere, you almost never have the person that answers the phone sound like they have working knowledge of all the equipment that is typically in a home and how they can fail.  They want to come out one time if at all possible.  I know a lot but, they still ask me a lot of questions and I know they are figuring out the best person to send.  I'v experienced this three different time, one plumbing one electrical and one HVAC.  The prices are competitive but their competence is exceptional. I am giving a 1 star rating for the services I never actually received. I needed a professional to just replace a broken light bulb on my 3rd story townhome as I am 7.5 months pregnant and cannot be climbing a ladder! I made the appointment a week ago, booked the earliest appointment that was available as I am closing on this townhome next week and need to make the necessary repair to comply with the inspection, and had to take the entire day off work due to the 4 hour time frame provided by Michael & Sons. I received a call this evening from their customer service to reschedule my appointment that was originally scheduled for tomorrow morning - not even a full days notice! The earliest they can reschedule is 7 days later and the customer service supervisor stated she was unable to do anything for me. If this company actually wanted to provide adequate customer service they would have offered to contract the work out to a local electrician to keep my future business. We needed a few things done around our house and the garbage disposal went out and I called Michael and Son and they sent out a great electrician and found it to be the switch and not the disposal. He repaired the switch and then went upstairs and put in a new switch in the bathroom upstairs. I needed the porch light and the two side and back yard lights checked and they are getting power but we are putting in sensor lighting for me and a new porch light. I was very impressed with Derek. He even came back because I forgot about a braker in the braker box not being flipped and he came back and flipped it for me. I am so disappointed. I had been working with Michale and son's for over a year as it was a well know company in a new state. We had recently bought our home and because we were not ready to move into it we rented it out. Our tenants called with issues regarding the water heater. We decided to call Michale and sons because of the reviews. I was somewhat surprised at the manner in which the technician handled the appointment, he called to say I was endangering my tenants and that unless I did exactly what he recommended he would have to call the county but if I decided to wait or get a second opinion he would have to report me to the county right away. I was concerned for my tenants because the house had been bought less than a month ago and i had no idea what the prevued owner had done. I also was out of the state and had to trust his words, again a reputable company. Well Almost $9,000 later we had a new heater and everything was up and running. There were some minor issues in the winter which they came and handled right away. So what is the problem you ask? We finally moved into our home (four days ago) and as I tried to set up gas in my name, the company refused, why? because the job was "poorly and horribly done", the exact words of the technician. He also was shocked about the price that i reported we paid and, the cherry on top, he could NOT put the gas as the job had NEVER been inspected and it was leaking which was a hazard. Mind you this job was A YEAR and a HALF ago so my tenant were in grave danger!!!!!! Would be negative stars if I could rate that! Had them install a brand new heat and AC unit in our house about a year and a half ago. Last year- AC went out because of a faulty installation where someone had a sheet metal screw rub against the cooling line. Had to wait 4 days for a new coil. This year- we are going on 3 weeks with no AC in the middle of this heat wave. Had a tech come out 2 weeks ago to tell us he “thinks the compressor is bad, but I want a senior tech to come look”..... senior tech comes out 4 days later to tell us the compressor is bad and they don’t have that in stock- but it will be here Friday. I called about 6-7 times on that Friday asking for information about why our “warranty” system isn’t fixed yet. Spoke to a service manager finally that afternoon about 2pm - no help at all. Told me the part would be in Monday maybe Tuesday. Told me I could speak to the customer service rep. Called @ 2:30 Friday afternoon. Left a message..... still waiting on a return call. I cannot believe it takes a week or more to find a compressor for a normal Carrier house unit. This was not a special order unit nor a custom install. Simply unacceptable. So here I sit in my house this morning (where it’s already 85 degrees) hoping for an answer this Monday morning and yet- nothing. Follow up edit to this- after leaving my last review on here- I was finally able to get something going. The part came in Monday afternoon but they did not have a tech available until the next day. Edwin was the tech that came out on Tuesday morning. He arrived and went right to work. After the installation of the new compressor- I was told that it had a bad valve assembly in the line that was causing the compressor to shut down- they left to get the part. When they finished the work- Edwin told me that the valve was on 4 weeks back order- thankfully he said that we had suffered enough and replaced the coil again. Our AC is back up and running and finally cooling the house properly. My end assessment is that in order for a reasonable response- phone calls will only get you so far even when my wife called that am- but after I left a bad review on here, Maurice was quick to reach out. Maurice will do what he can to get things done. The guy who came out was very nice, the people on the phone were very nice. The price they quoted me was absolutely absurd. Over 700.00 for maybe an hours worth of work. Needed a bathroom faucet changed out, a wobbly toilet fixed and the flushing mechanism in a toilet tank changed out. I had all the parts. Also charging a diagnostic fee for the customer to repeat what the issues were and then getting told that it would be that expensive is ridiculous. The guy was in my house for all of 5 minutes. We have had two major projects done by Michael and Sons in the past month. First was an emergency electrical job (replaced both electrical panels) done one day before the Memorial Day holiday. We had a leak in our basement because of all the rain we have had these last few months. The straw that broke the camels back, was the almost 15" we had the first week of June. I called another company we had used when we had another leak due to mechanical failure. The did not return our first call, or second call. We had to keep nagging them. When we finally got a date, it would have pushed inaction for almost a week. So I called Michael & Sons. That same day we had Moises H. come in and give us a quote. We canceled the appointment with the other company, and made one with Michael & Sons for the next day. A day sooner then we would have had with the other co. I just had my heat pump and air handler replaced yesterday. When the installers arrived I was surprised to see the 2 guys were very young. I work in the industry and have not had many positive experiences with the younger technicians but I always give people a chance. I was very surprised at the professionalism these 2 had and the amount of knowledge they had. The attention to detail and the final product was outstanding. I highly recommend this company for all of your HVAC needs. I am an electrician by trade and work for a large electrical contractor in the metropolitan area and when these 2 were presented with a problem their ability to work through it was amazing. I would give a lower rating if I could. Their contractor came out to inspect a HVAC unit and was poorly trained. He had no idea how to tell the age of a unit by the serial number, he left the heat on instead of turning the AC back on and worst of all, he failed to properly reconnect the unit resulting in the seller contacting the original installer to come out and check to see what was causing it to malfunction. Although Michael and Sons was presented with written documentation by another contractor that this was directly a result of their negligence, they failed to redeem themselves and do the right thing (which would have been to reimburse the seller for the service call to reconnect what Michael and Sons left undone). Save yourself from poorly trained staff and management that could care less about it's customers. In my 25+ years dealing with a wide variety of HVAC repair staff on an almost weekly or monthly basis for my company, I have never come across a company as dirty, unethical and dishonest as Michael and Sons. This company came for a service call and got a very old unit working for us but that is where the good news ends. They sold us a new $6200 HVAC system and it was scheduled to be installed at 9:30 am on Tues. 2 techs showed up around 10:20. They were very immature, did not introduce themselves to me and mumbled with no eye contact. Although I was not feeling very confidently, I had to go back to work, but asked them to let me know when I should return via text. At 3:30, I text them to find out status. They said they were just about to start up the new system and clean up the job site. I arrived home at 5:15 and no A/C. Long, long story short 3 hours and one extra tech coming on site, they finally got it started. I mentoined the clear lack of experience to the 3rd guy who was obviously using my job as a training lesson for the kids who knew so little that they had to dig through the trash out by the truck to even find the service manual they were supposed to have left w the new unit...and he claimed the one kid *had been trained and had nearly 2 yrs of experience. Senior guy on my job had *nearly 2 yrs experience. They never seemed to be in a hurry...even talking on cell phones and chatting. Right when I thought it was finally over, I was told they needed to come back in the morning to change a breaker. More time off work. The kid showed up for a "5min job" that took almost half an hour. I told him the system had run all night long and never met target temp the thermostat was set on. He said it was normal for a new system to take a day or so to regulate. Home from work that afternoon, still no change. We contacted the company and they agreed something was wrong and offered to send a tech after *2* more service calls...it was already 6:30 pm which would have meant my call would have gone late into the night...so they offered 8:30 am. It is 9am right now and I was just told they would be here in 30 min. Oh, and they also did not leave the wifi thermostat that came w our new unit. No one knows where that is. I recently had my two units (heat pump and an AC/gas furnace) serviced under the $59 Precision tune-up. Their ad states it is a 21-point precision tune-up service - not sure about others, but I am certain the following items were NOT performed: Tune burners for more efficient burns (furnace was never turned on) Test refrigerants to ensure optimal levels (No gauges were attached to either outside units - I was standing there the whole time) Lubricate all moving parts. Clean outside condensing coils (Again, I was standing there) Apply protective coating to outside of units - he did apply several Michael & Sons advertising labels. I know $59 is a very low price, but if they advertise that all those items are included, they should be done. What I saw was more of an inspection, rather than a tune up. More...

We needed help installing a ceiling fan and my husband called Michael & Son. They were able to come right out and got our new fan running in no time. Bob the electrician was great. He recommended that HVAC service contract. We scheduled that and good thing that we did. Kregg was our technician and he noted that our HVAC unit was too close to the dryer vent and we had a build up of lint that was going to cause a serious problem. M&S has techs of differing calibers. Make sure you get a good tech. Mario M. in HVAC appears more knowledgeable and thorough that some techs. Don't care to deal with the managers much but M&S does attempt to make sure you are satisfied. Back story: M&S installed a Carrier mini-split 5-head system for us in an older home in winter 2015. Colt did what we considered a great job installing the system but one indoor unit (head) in the master bedroom had issues from day 1. It would not heat properly on "I Feel" setting which senses the ambient temperature from the remote. The fan ran slow and the room would not warm up. If taken off "I Feel" setting the unit would not shut off when it reached the set temp but would over heat the room. Colt rechecked to make sure the insulation in the thru-the-wall hole was present. It was. Later, still having issues with the units not heating as we would like--not producing heat quickly--the carrier rep. came out with two M&S upper mgmt. They said, "give it time to adjust." We did. In April 2018 I finally called again on the master bedroom unit at the persistence of my wife who was using a space heater in that room.The 1st tech who came out really didn't find much so called Carrier who wanted to test the freon level at a cost of $458 to us. We didn't want to pay that much just to see if that was the issue. And, we didn't agree with that assessment since we could over heat the room if taken off "I Feel". We verbalized our concerns with M&S so Jimmy S. agreed to send a 2nd tech, Mario M., who took more time and found several issues which the fist tech missed. He lubed one unit which was making a ticking noise, he diagnosed a 2nd unit which had a growling sound as a bad bearing in the fan motor, and he swapped two remotes as a cheap way to see if the fault with the master bedroom unit was simply a bad remote. We are testing that scenario now. The 4 star rating is for Mario M. and the overall ethics of M&S to insure customer satisfaction. The management would score lower. More...
