Wow. What an amazing experience we had with Mersea Mutts. Firstly great communication and very accommodating. Professional to a tee! Today Fiona visited us to see our pup Fonzie who has been resource guarding and reluctant to wear his harness. In fact Fonzie thinks everything is a game and has us running around after him. Let me tell you Fiona is a magician. Calm and discreet she has him literally eating out of her hand. Strategies to use for all our issues that as soon as she left we found success with. I have been using Fiona for dog training sessions and also dog walking. My dog Boris has been very reactive on a lead and thought some extra help would be beneficial to both of us. The results have been incredible. I am able to walk Boris without him barking and growling at other dogs and pulling me along with him. The vets has become a easy experience as he is calm and relaxed while other dogs are in there. The service Fiona provides has been exceptional and I would recommend her to any one who is looking for some company for there dog or a dog that needs some training. Fiona is amazing!! Apart from being lovely herself she really knows her stuff! We took in a rescue dog and her advice has been invaluable! First training session for recall & stop! Brilliant! I appreciate its us as the owners that need the training too but I cannot recommend her highly enough!! We’ve been having a great time at obedience training so far with Fiona! Arnie (Border Terrier) had unfortunately developed some anxiety following being attacked in the past while he was being walked on the lead, so we’re working towards some calming and focusing behaviour changes. We was recommended to Mersea Mutts by Abby from Island Dog Walking. Fiona and her husband looked after our 2 lab puppies over night. We were a bit apprehensive as we have never left them before. After meeting with Fiona we felt at ease and knew they would be safe in the hands of Fiona and her husband. I am delighted with my dog's progress. Kimba has been attending training classes with Fiona for some time now and has been very responsive to her training techniques, Even better though - he has always been nervous round other dogs and tends to be reactive. Since Fiona has been taking him on training walks - and it has only been a few weeks - the improvement has been dramatic. He is able to be off lead around a good number of dogs without any barking or growling. Other people have also noticed and remarked on the improvement. He is so much more relaxed - and so am I. What do you love most about your job?
Meeting all the wonderful people and their 4 legged friends, seeing happy dogs and those that were once unhappy become happy.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I went on a "career as a dog trainer" course so that I could get a better idea on training my dogs by the end of the course I was hooked, I had signed up to all the other courses I could and within 6 months qualified as a trainer. Having spent months offering my services to friends and family with fantastic results and finding my day to day job as a Finance Director was not nearly as fulfilling as seeing happier dogs and owners alike, I decided that a life walking, training and boarding dogs was what I needed to do.
Why should our clients choose you?
I have passions and drive for helping improve your experience with your dog. Owning a dog should be enjoyable and walks should be relaxing. Working together can make things easier if not perfect for both you and your 4 legged friend.
Each dog and owner is an individual and I believe we need to get to the core of the issues in order to get the correct training for the desired outcome.
Continually training and updating my skills I like to make sure I am up to date with current research so that I can improve my training techniques and get a greater understanding of what makes a dog tick.
