Today was my first time and Mike kicked my butt. I love the intensity and music and all around vibe. Oh and the participants were very uplifting and helpful

I've been a regular at McAlister Training since January 2018.For a few years, post-college, I struggled with being slightly obese (slowed metabolism) and having decreased flexibility and weak legs (recurring ankle injuries from basketball). I love playing sports, and I was frustrated that even in my mid-20s, I was losing the stamina and agility to play sports to support my competitive nature. I hated how I couldn't walk up 4 flights of stairs at my work without huffing and puffing!After giving up my membership to a traditional gym, I signed up for McAlister, and haven't looked back!I have a love-hate relationship with Michael's workouts ;). They are really tough! I was used to lifting heavy weights, skipping leg day and cardio, and now everyday is leg/core/full-body day. Even now, I'm usually crumpled on the floor in a ball of sweat. But, I love how it positively affects me, physically and mentally. My legs have never been stronger. I have more overall strength, endurance, and flexibility than I've ever had. I feel more confident when I'm playing sports, I love that my physicality and endurance doesn't get in the way of living a very active lifestyle.The thing that has be coming back is Michael. Every single workout, he's upbeat, positive and encouraging and he really sets the tone for the entire gym. He's really creative in coming up with different movements each week, and he'll modify the workouts for pregnant women and those dealing with minor injuries. More...

As an ex-collegiate athlete I have been a member of various gyms and McAlister Training is the only one that I have found to suit my needs/wants. Every workout Michael designs targets specific regions of the body and perfectly combines strength and cardio. Not only have I gained muscle but I have seen an increase in my cardio endurance. McAlister Training is the most positive, motivating, and fun workout environment I’ve ever experienced. The classes allow you to challenge yourself, and go by so quickly with the circuit style classes, good vibes, and great music! The instructors create new workouts for each class so you’re never doing the same thing twice. They also make sure that you are doing the exercises correctly and with good form, which I appreciate! I'm so glad I was introduced to McAlister when I moved to SLO, it's far and away my favorite place to workout in town.  Michael and Lauren have put their hearts into their business and it shows. Every detail has been thought of. The studio is small but well equipped and spotless. Even the bathroom smells nice! Classes are friendly, small and personalized, and accessible for lots of different fitness levels. Michael is constantly changing up the workouts and adding new equipment to keep things fresh and challenging. They also really make an effort to make the gym a community, which is nice as a newcomer to the area. More...

I love McAlister training! I've been searching for a studio that fits me and this one is it! It's a small studio with a big heart! If you're looking to just get started and need some guidance or already have an 8 pack of abs this place is for you. Michael McAlister is an awesome trainer and can accommodate those of us that need a little pushing but also push those of you that are ready for more! Since I've been a member (April 2018), Michael has never repeated the same workout twice and is great at coming up with new exercises to keep things interesting. Being a member at McAlister has upped my activity tremendously! The atmosphere, the humble owners (Michael and Lauren) and the comradely with other members alongside the intense workouts is what keeps me coming back each and every week! More...

If you're thinking about trying McAlister: do it!I've done a bunch of different workouts from CrossFit to barre, trained for and ran a marathon, and the classes at McAlister are the best I've taken and I continuously see improvements in my body and performance. In addition to the amazing workouts, you're guaranteed to experience one of the most amazing communities you'll find anywhere in SLO. This place is great. The HIIT workouts are unique (I haven't had the same workout twice) and a special kind of challenging that caters to every skill level. Seriously, everyone. Michael is a patient and motivating instructor who is genuinely invested in the well being of everyone who walks into his gym. Mike is great up and coming trainer! I've been watching him for the past years at Estradas Gym and all his client's have had great results from what I've seen! Being a member of McAlister Training is the first time I've felt like I have found an extended family in an exercise studio. Michael is by far the best (and nicest!) trainer that I've ever worked with. He is very invested in each of his clients and pays attention to everyone's needs, knows their injuries and how to provide modifications, and is a great motivator! And the McAlister community is the best. I've made some great friends working out at here. I can't remember ever looking forward to getting my butt kicked as much as I do with this studio/crew. Where do I start? Well, first, if you're looking for a challenging workout where you break a major sweat each class, feel sore the next day (the good kind), and see results, then this is the place. Also, Michael is an incredible instructor. The cool thing about McAlister Training is that each class is about 12 people or less so you always get attention when it comes to form and making corrections. Also, Michael is the nicest/most motivating trainer. These were all things I was searching for when looking for a new gym. I wanted to do circuit training that combined HIIT workouts and this is exactly what McAlister offers. Plus, you get an awesome community of new friends and workout buddies! What's not to love? I’ve been doing HIIT training for about a year before I found this gym. My first impression was that it was really welcoming. The other members were talking to each other and more importantly they all said hi to me. Michael greeted me with a smile and knew my name from signing in online in advance. The workout was tough and had me catching my breath a few times, which is what I was hoping for. There was one exercise that wasn’t going well for me and Michael immediately came over and gave me a modification. The new member special is an amazing way to get familiar.
