Mazagan is now called Caspi and is marvelous! It is Turkish/Azerbaijan and the chef's offerings are delicious and beautifully presented. The service is friendly and professional. I highly recommend Caspi. More...

Love the chicken bastilla. The rest of the food is good. I'm going to go back. I used to go to taste of Morocco until it closed, then other morracan places didn't do a chicken bastilla, so I was very disappointed. Look forward to my next bastilla!

Favorite hookah bar in the entire DMV area. Prices are super reasonable, they have a wide variety of drink options, including foreign beers that you cant find anywhere else. The employees are very nice, attentive and will accommodate your needs in the most professional manner More...

29 August 2018

Authentic Moroccan food with fine service in a very nice setting. The tagines tasted exactly as they did when I traveled through Morocco earlier this year and the mint tea is not to be missed. The least authentic thing about Mazagan is the price - it will run you about $25 to $30 per person for a meal. The location and atmosphere are excellent, however, and the parking is plenty in the lot behind the restaurant. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for a slightly upscale dining experience. This is our favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. The food is always fantastic. The beef tajine is my favorite item, kefta kabob is also a go-to item. Heck, even their burgers are delicious! To be fair, I don't think we have ever had something we didn't enjoy. I used to thoroughly love the calamari but last time we went they had switched up the recipe to something that's not breaded very much and we were not huge fans. They also have a really great cocktail menu. My wife really enjoys the hookah lounge, though I don't partake. The service is top notch. We know the owner and manager and they are both extremely friendly. More...

We went there on Saturday, Feb 17. I was very impressed. The food and service were amazing. The atmosphere was great and the decor was very chic and clean. Didn't know anything about Marcel's except that jacket is required for men. Tasting menu (variety of well executed small plates) and staff combine to make a personalized menu offering. Lobster bisque en croute was excellent (thinner than expected, with a full panorama of rich flavor) as was the dark chocolate souffle with creme anglaise. Yum! Sophisticated setting with warm staff. The food was great. I had the beef and it was really tender! Every one in my party loved their food. I'd suggest more menus, we didn't have enough for our party and so that delayed or ordering. I must say the appetizers took a bit too long to get to us as well. The hookah is good quality. Great atmosphere. I wish it were a bit closer to MD! If you have a large party and you're not anti smoking I'd suggest sitting in the lounge area. More...

I was lucky enough to Catch lunch at this wonderful place. On short weekend in the DMV. Having lived in the NOVA area. This is definitely one of the few gems that we were missing. I have ordered a kafta over eggs tagine. The portion was generous. The flavor was there. I am definitely coming back on my next visit to the DC area. Had a chance to visit this place during restaurant week with a friend. Before he arrived I had a few drinks at the bar and loved the space in there. There is also an enclosed hookah area which is awesome so people in the restaurant don't have to smell the smoke. Under the cold mezze I reccomend the Bakoula , Chakchouka or Zaâlouk. My friend had the Mussels Tagine and absolutely loved it. For the entree I tried the Chef’s Experience which had kefta, grilled chicken and lamb Kabob. The baklava was also amazing for dessert. I would definitely visit again! More...

Living across the street, we have anticipated the arrival of Mazagan since we first noticed their tantalizing sign on the window months ago. After our first happy hour visit, I am happy to report they didn't disappoint! The restaurant is beautifully designed inside with lots of windows and a couple of nice TV's behind the bar. We arrived just after 4:30 and even though happy hour doesn't till 5, the bartender gladly offered the HH menu immediately after sitting. All drafts were $3 and a couple of Sam Adams Summer Ales served up in frozen glasses immediately hit the spot. The Taste of the Middle East and Kefta Kabob, both $7 each, were excellent and very filling. They have Moroccan chicken and egg Bastille pies, which we plan to try next visit. The only error (very surprising since they have only have open 2 weeks), was the description on the menu for the Kefta Kabob didn't match what came out. We both really liked what came out (menu said it comes on a bed of hummus; instead came with rice, missed grilled peppers and onions, and olives). Pro Tip: park across the street in the garage of the Halstead apartment building for free after 6 PM and all weekend. More...

I would rate this a 4.5 stars. Definitely a swanky place for the Pike and great addition. Love the decor. And they have a separate hookah room for after 9pm that I can't wait to check out! They have a really nice happy hour with $3 drafts and $5 wine and lite bits from $3-7. Looking forward to coming back for dinner. The chef is super nice and chatted with us about some questions we had. I recommend checking out this new spot. More...

Mazagan really is trying to up the ante of classy ethnic restaurants in the Columbia Pike corridor, With a fabulously unique interior. The food (and most of the wait staff) hails straight from Morocco with special delights like tagines, succulent lamb, and perfectly prepared kabobs. They even have a Ramadan Iftar menu for this'd needing to break the fast. The drinks, while expertly prepared, are pretty small, and a bit spendy... More...

The food was wonderfully prepared, the service was satisfactory and the price was appropriate. Recommended dishes: Bastilla, Chakshouka, Zaâlouk, Beef Tajine, Mint tea.Moroccan is one of my favorite cuisines. While I've never traveled to Morocco, I've been to over two dozen Moroccan restaurants. The ambiance: If you’re looking for a cultural experience this is not the place. The clean, modern, spacious design was much more befitting of a swanky D.C. cocktail lounge than a Moroccan restaurant. The front of the menu boasts "Cuisine Cocktails Culture" and yet I didn't feel like I was experiencing much culture save for the music, which halfway through changed from the type of music I've experienced in many other southern and western Mediterranean restaurants to something more akin to a cocktail lounge. It was as if the owners couldn't decide what type of experience they wanted to provide their customers. If they're goal is a fusion experience, I don't think they're doing a very good job of meshing the two.The food: I ordered the Trio appetizer 8.95, the Bastilla 8.95, the Beef Tajine 19.95., and the baklava. The bastilla was smaller than others that I've had elsewhere but was well prepared. The dough was crispy and flaky without a significant amount of butter. It was presented perfectly with the classic decoration of powdered sugar and the pattern of cinnamon. The chicken stuffing inside was fully warmed through and seasoned wonderfully. This dish is one of my favorite as it is a fine expression of the balance of sweet and savory that defines Moroccan cuisine and this bastilla did not disappoint. The trio appetizer is not the trio d' aubergine that is listed on the online menu instead it is a combination of the Bakoula, the Chakchouka, and the Zaâlouk. The chakchouka was quite different from other chakchoukas (shakshuka) I've had, as it was served cold and with no eggs. It was my favorite of the three with wonderful seasonings and a delicious big pepper flavors. The Bakoula was very oily and musty, but was still quite a treat. The Zaalouk was delicious; how can you go wrong with wood grilled eggplant? The beef tagine was very simple and yet elegantly spiced. The aromas of tomatoes and slow cooked beef were perceptible as the waiter was just leaving the kitchen with our dish and I knew I was in for a treat. The beef was as tender as it gets and the gravy was thick and boldly flavored with many complex layers of spices and herbs. The baklava was thin and simple. Baklava, being one of my favorite deserts is something I look forward to at Middle Eastern restaurants. I enjoy the different subtleties of lebanese, turkish, and israeli baklavas. This baklava was uninspiring and I won't order it again. The walnuts were raw, there was not enough honey, and there was no 'secret' ingredients like orange blossom water, cloves, or rose water that are often found in many other baklavas. Two plates of olives and two bowls of bread were complimentary and provided without request. The mint tea that I ordered with desert was not overly sweet. It was made with fresh mint and could be ordered to your preferred level of sweet. The service: The waiter was prompt and attentive. Unfortunately he spoke very quickly with a thick accent so it's a good thing I knew enough about the cuisine because I couldn't understand him very well. His hygiene could use some improvement. He had terrible halitosis, dirty fingernails, and despite the fact that I were eating dinner at 4:30 his uniform was already quite soiled. More...
