Luckily for me Sue put me in touch with Jack Wraithmell who has an amazing ability to explain tricky language into understandable English. Got all my many questions answered and always followed up with emails so I could chew it over and over. I was put in contact with Martin at Mather and Murray through a third party website. Martin was very professional, friendly and had a great depth of knowledge in all the options for me. Whether this would be taking a new mortgage or release equity as a last resort. Martin handled the paperwork and applications and kept me up to date with the process throughout. Martin was able to provide help with signatures for counterpart signing for the solicitors and reached out to congratulate us on completion. The only small downside was the legal firm (Hek Jones) which was recommended, my experience was slow and having to chase and ask a lot of questions. We had exposed a bit of a nightmare with our existing Financial Adviser (which resulted in a successful damages claim against them) so we were keen to perform extremely careful due diligence on our new partner. We found Mather and Murray as part of that process around 2 years ago, and having met Darren, we struck up an instant accord. He was as keen as were we to ensure that working together would be right for BOTH parties (it is) in undertaking a thorough review of our affairs as well as our aspirations, lifestyle and personalities. The business and Darren have been a breath of fresh air throughout our (short) relationship. Truly independent, and keen to involve the client as much or as little as the client wishes in all aspects of decision making. We have some understanding of the markets, and this is appreciated by Darren, who is as engaged with us as we need him to be in managing our pension and ISA portfolio. Since mid 2021 when we contracted, the markets have been extremely turbulent, but we’ve been able to outperform the downturns wholly as a result of Darren’s expertise and advice. The fee structure is totally transparent (and in fact we are paying around 1/4 the fees we were being overcharged by our old adviser now). The most important element for us in working with an IFA is trust - and in Mather & Murray, and in Darren in particular, we have that trust. Bought my first property recently after months of searching and being told it was impossible. My wife and I needed to remortgage, our existing lender was not interested because of my age. Mather & Murray put us in touch with Martin as a specialist in the mortgage market for older borrowers.
