Mary helped us pick out living room furniture pieces, kitchen lighting, wall decorations in our foyer, bathroom tile design for our master, and so much more! She is full of great ideas , like when she had us paint a rug on our dining room floor (always get compliments!). I personally thought her aesthetic was perfectly on par with mine, so ideas and items she presented were perfect and saved us a lot of time and hassle. I am actually pretty confident about my decorating but I hired Mary Best because I was going to redo 2 bathrooms, paint all of my interior and exterior, and buy all new furniture for my living room- and I’m so glad I did! I was surprised how stressful these projects could be and every step of the way Mary validated my feelings, gave me good advise, and was able to refer me to professionals (ie a professional wallpaper installer rather than a painter in my area). I was able to work closely with Mary even though she lived 2 hours away. I loved that she encouraged me to buy from whatever stores I liked from furniture store to a tile shop. She gave advise while putting my style and budget first. I highly recommend Mary Best Designs for small and big projects- I feel like she brought out the best in my house and style. In June, 2018 we worked with Mary on a lower-level remodel of our home. Not only did Mary produce a great final product, but she also listened to all of our needs including style and budget.
When we wanted Mary to help reach a decision she did, when we knew what we wanted she allowed us to lead the process.
One particular highlight was our powder room. We would have likely opted for a more boring/plain option, but through Mary's insight and skill she told us to "go bold" now it is the first thing people compliment when they see our remodel.
I can not recommend Mary any higher, a true professional with a great eye for design.

I am a custom woodworking & carpentry contractor and we have worked with Mary Best on a number of projects.
Not only does Mary create beautiful designs - but she is also able to communicate those designs to the craftspeople who bring those ideas to life.
This is invaluable because it allows us to do a better job in bringing the design to life accurately. It also prevents the client from having to answer a lot of questions mid-project due to an unclear design.
In the end - whether your project budget is large or small - a good designer like Mary is well worth her fee because she makes sure that you get the most value per dollar spent.

Mary was such a pleasure to work with in the design and layout of our new furniture. I was feeling stumped in what to buy, what sizes and shapes would fit and look best, and where to shop. She provided detailed layouts, made excellent furniture selections and was nice and easy to work with throughout the entire process. I started working with Mary over a year ago on a kitchen project after finding her on Houzz. We couldn’t be more pleased with the results! The kitchen project started with choosing colors which turned into re-doing a sun room, painting and pulling together the first floor, window treatments and now we are re-doing the living and family rooms! I started working with Mary Best 6 years ago when we moved into our forever home and she was referred to me by a friend. Our house is an ongoing project and Mary has assisted me every step of the way from paint, to furniture selection, decor, room layouts, custom furniture design, to bath and kitchen remodels. She is amazing! She is fun, easy going, and responsive, all while having a superior eye for design. Slowly and with her expertise, our home has turned into the beautiful and functional space we envisioned raising our family in. She works within your budget, is well connected to other professionals you may need (carpentry, upholstery etc) and really listens to your wants and families usage/needs for your spaces. I read a feature article about Mary Best Designs in the Sunday Journal two to three years ago. I was impressed, and since that time, Mary has been working with us, She has guided us in updating a family room and living and dining space over two years ago. Mary listens carefully to our thoughts/needs. She has a wonderful eye for color and is both creative and practical in her suggestions. Hired Mary for help choosing wood flooring, countertop, and backsplash. She hit the nail on the head for all three. The floor is WOW, and the countertop and backsplash are serene and beautiful--just what I wanted.
The flooring was a challenge as we have different color baseboards and cupboards throughout the house. She chose From The Forest mahagony which has several tones of color. It is perfect.
She is easy to work with! I highly recommend.

I hired Mary because I wanted to develop a tasteful and appealing external look. I also wanted help incorporating my mother's and grandmother's eclectic treasures from the Orient into my living spaces.
Mary helped me with interior and exterior paint selections to give my "dated" home a fresh and modern look. I replaced flooring on the 1st and 2nd floors and her ideas were ones I never would’ve come up with on my own. She accompanied me to purchase the flooring, making excellent suggestions and giving me her designer discount. She also helped me incorporate my eclectic furniture pieces in a new layout and found new ways to use some of my old tired pieces. She gave me referrals for my other projects: upholsterer, woodworker, flooring installer. They all proved to be excellent and a great value.
Mary was a delight to work with. She truly is a gifted professional and an expert in her area. She asked pertinent questions about my wants and needs, delivered many options and above all, respected my budget. She is very creative, a wealth of knowledge and never appeared to be rushed for time, which is a pretty big deal, as I know she is very, very popular. She was very accomodating to my schedule. We have used Mary Best for many different projects in our home and each time been thrilled with the results! We recently remodeled the first floor of our house- kitchen, floors, bathroom, daughter's bedroom with Mary's help. She always has so many great ideas for making the most out of small spaces, which we have a lot of. She helped us figure out how to keep our old house (built in 1946) look updated but not lose the charm and character that we love about it. What impresses me most about Mary though is her knack for getting to know her clients' style and taste. She'll email me a picture and say she thought it looked like something I'd like and she is always dead on. She's a great listener and observer and this shows through in her ideas and suggestions.
