Excellent my two kids love going they can't wait for there next lesson it's the best thing we could have given them.All sensei are so friendly they make you feel welcome we have all made new friends I would recommend them anyone.

I have thought long and hard about this review before posting...... a few years ago my husband, 3 children and I met with sensi Steve one Saturday afternoon. ....that afternoon Steve told us he saw potential in all our children but particularly our daughter who happened to be the one child who wasnt too keen on joining and the child we were having great difficulty with at the time. We joined based on faith on the word of Steve who filled us with confidence and belief that they could help us as a family. Fast forward 3 years and that same child who was hesitant about joining is now oozing with confidence....interacts with people she doesn't know....allows physical contact and knows the importance of eye contact. Throw into the mix that she has amazing body confidence, higher levels of fitness and of course amazing martial arts skills and self defence techniques. She really is a different girl and even though she has since had a diagnosis that makes us understand why she she struggled with lots of things we took for granted......with the help of the Marsdens we can honestly say she is doing amazing. She pleads to go whenever they are open and this is the only place she gets excited about going. She even wanted to come home from holiday early as she wanted to go to her lesson!!!!! I can only tell folk about our personal experience but wow....it has been the right choice for us and although my other children chose different interests they are still accepted as part of the Marsden family when we go. They know my daughter inside out.....can read her moods....accept her little quirks and take it all in their stride. She is doing well with her belts...but for us it's not just about the grading.....its the whole thing and the whole thing works for us. Happy to talk to anyone who may have a child with additional needs who is not 100% sure if this is the right academy for them to share our experience further. Since getting my new job it's definitely highlighted how much I love Marsden.There's been so many days where I've got home, had less than half an hour to put the kids to bed, get ready and showered and then come to lesson when i feel exhausted after walking between 16-20 miles already. It's literally the only thing in the world that could motivate me, any other form of excercise I just give up on but I genuinely cannot imagine not having Marsden and everyone there not in my life. Such a shame to see a one star review from someone who obviously doesn't understand how the MMA world works. I would recommend trying them for yourself and making your own judgement. No requirement for muscles, tattoos or strength. I was introduced to Marsden Martial Arts with the most relaxed, friendly and warm family. Marsdens have catered their academy to suit everybody's needs... I do shift work and just wanted to improve my fitness and self-defence skills. Amazing family run academy for all ages and skill levels. Me and my 6 year old daughter go and she's been going since she was 4. She loves 'little ninjas' lessons, we do family class together and I like the adult and advanced sessions they do. Having gone back to martial arts after a 27 year gap, bad back and overweight they've worked with me to fit with and around my limitations and I'm now fitter than I've been for a long long time and pain free from back pain for the first time in a decade with regular controlled excercise. Make no mistake though you can train to cage fight if you want....it's up to you how far you go hence why I'd happily recommend for anyone....just go and talk to them! More...

Family run, Families' atmosphere, which means no matter new member or experienced, no matter young or old, no matter ladies or gentalmen, always share learning and caring and understanding in a warm,open, acceptable, respected and supportive circle. All sensei are high professional but also different in their own day. No matter totally new beginners, or some experienced or trained people, with variable class programmes to choose from all year around, could find their own areas or purposes to learn and improve here. Our two boys aged 3 & 6 were offered a free trial, and to our surprise both absolutely loved it. Marsden Martial Arts is not how I would have expected, it's very family orientated and with a strong focus on self development. We met Sensei Steve whose passion shines through, he has a brilliant way with kids and is able to get the best out of them. We signed our boys up immediately and they are so excited to get started. My daughter started at MMA in November 2018 aged 37 months, she is a child who knows her own mind and is very strong willed. We struggled lots with getting her to do anything we asked or her listen to us. Since starting at MMA, I'd say it has taken 3 months for her to stop running in circles and hitting etc, and actually take part (she is only 3) but the change in our daughter is huge, all our family and friends have commented about her change in attitude. She listens more, she stops and pays attention, she is just a much calmer focused child. We go 2 to 3 times a week sometimes 4 if she wants to. She loves the lessons esp Sensei Lynne and Sensei Steve (they are children whisperers I'm sure, so patient). It is quite scary at first to sign up as I didn't know if it was the right thing to do, but looking back we defo made the right decision. More...

Overall great place to train. What makes this dojo really stand out is the ethos of the trainers. The respect and the positive attitude they try to instil on the students is truly admirable. All instructors I have met – and even the young instructor assistants – show great patient and genuine caring for the students. The martial arts style seems to be practical and usable and Sensei Steve tends to give the full-breakdown into the self-defence purpose of each move. I would recommend this academy to anyone. So so friendly. I was so nervous about transferring from a different place and they made me feel like I've been there my whole life. I 100% recommend, they are so nice and treat everyone equally. ☆☆☆☆☆ 5 stars. my little boy has only just turned 3 and sensei Steve and sensei Lyn are brill with him. he is very shy in big groups and has only been going around 3 months now and the difference in his confidence is showing already. sometimes we get there and he still gets shy and doesnt want to go on but sensei Steve will just ask him to perhaps hold something for him or turn the heating down and then he has forgotten he didn't want to join in and done the whole lesson smiling and laughing. you do a fab job, thank you. We are foster careers who have a boy who is very shy and has been asking to do “karate”. We took him to the trail session after Xmas not expecting him to say much and just sit there, within 10 mins he was running round talking and having a great time. Since that day he has listened and come out of his shell and loves going to karate. He has improved greatly and his confidence has grown immensely and even school has commented how much he has changed. His instructors say he is a joy to teach as he listens and does what he is told.
