Filmed a wedding there last week, an absolutely Stunning place, every viewpoint was a beautifully composed shot, it has soooo many gorgeous locations, both inside and outside on the grounds. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, in 12 years filming weddings I have never been directed to a fully prepared, set out dinner table and fast service of the most beautiful food... They completely looked after us in such a friendly way. The fact that they have a separate 'party' location downstairs meant that the band were set up and proceedings moved quickly and seemlessly downstairs after the dinner. It is so hard to know where to even begin! The castle itself is absolutely stunning, pictures do not do it justice! One of my bridesmaids even teared up over how beautiful it is. You know when you go visit castles and everything is roped off but you just want to hang out there in all its luxuriousness? Markree Castle is what you need! The bridal sweet was gorgeous, 3 rooms we had to ourselves with a top-notch bathtub and showers. All of the rooms in the castle were phenomenal. The details that are in every part of the castle is lavish and sumptuous. You can tell the owners care very much about the castle and staying true to the structure and history of the castle. The gardens were lovely, Roisin the dog was darling.The staff are equally fabulous. We were greeted by Alex like we were old friends. Deirdre and Nicholas were the most gracious of hosts. Every whim was taken care of immediately by the staff and everyone was very professional and hospitable. We planned our wedding from the U.S. and Deirdre was able to answer all of our questions every step of the way and left us feeling very confident with our decision to choose Markree. The day of the wedding I never once felt panicked, nervous, or worried about things being taken care of, which as a bride was a huge relief. The food, servers, and bartenders were all wonderful. It was the perfect day for us made all the more so special by Markree Castle. The guests told us how weddings were now ruined for them forever after seeing one in the Markree. If you want a breath-taking, show-stopping wedding like no other, Markree Castle is the place. I cannot speak highly enough of the castle and the staff. We are already planning on when we can come back as regular guests! More...

I had the pleasure to attend my godsons wedding this past weekend. What a fantastic venue . From start to finish everything was perfect . The staff , management , surroundings just wow . Decided to stay here in this castle as it is a sister castle to Cabra Castle which I love to stay. The grandeur of the place was magnificent and didn't disappoint at all. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. The room we stayed in was the Patsy Cline room and it was magnificent and comfortable. We decided to eat in the restaurant the first night we arrived, I was enjoying the first of the courses when I found glass in the middle of the sorbet I was eating. I told the manager of the restaurant what I had experienced and he offered me another one which I declined and removed the sorbet from the table. Not really much of an apology. The rest of the meal went well but for €45 a head I thought it was over priced, hence we ate out in sligo town the next night. Was disappointed that the staff never acknowledged the fact of what happened and felt that I had been let down. Would I stay there again? Don't know but wouldn't eat in the restaurant again if I did. My overall impression of this was amazing, the gardens and surroundings were picturesque and of course there was the beautiful dog Roison(Irish Wolf Hound ) that greeted you and even walked with you around the estate. Like a hidden gem, it is a special experience, I got invited to a wedding here. I had the best time of my life in recent years. I have never ever been made feel so comfortable as a guest. Small Hotel Castle; food delightful, staff are down to earth and can't do enough for you; easy to talk to and with, thence they help to create a quite relaxed atmosphere within a refined setting. My children ran around with other kids squealling with joy. Beautiful walks with a sense of history and belonging. Couldn't praise the experience enough. And thanks for ironing my shirts - I looked a bit better on the day. Great choice by Ivan and Cathy. More...
