Describe your creative process.
In order for our clients to feel part of the process every step of the way, we work in 4 stages:
Stage One - Research: On receipt of your brief we will profile your business by researching what you do, your industry sector, competition and finally your target market.
Stage Two - Concepts: Do you need a brand identity of log design? Sales literature or branded communications? Whatever your needs we will initially create a series of design concepts supplying you with the designs for your feedback and amends.
Stage Three - Design: Once Concepts have been agreed we will develop all requirements to final design which may include text and images supplied by you. Any images supplied will be colour corrected, retouched and resized if required. Should images be required we will source and purchase suitable lifestyle images on your behalf (we will notify you of any additional fees for stock images before we purchase them)
Stage Four - Artwork: Once you are happy with your designs and all amends have been made we will prepare the design files supplying print ready artwork with full bleed, crop and registration marks.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
A clear brief! The more information you can provide, the closer we will get to delivering what you’ve asked for first time around without lots of amends which will save you time and give you results quicker.
Note: if it’s helpful we can provide you with a questionnaire. Clients find this sometimes useful as it prompts to answer questions that they may not have considered before.
What do you love most about your job?
A challenge and the ability to get under clients brands, creating designs that are beautiful, unique and bespoke to customers individual needs.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Since working for leading global advertising agency Ogilvy & Matther back in the early 90's. I've always had a love for design and everything creative. For 15 years I was lucky enough to work for some great companies in a number of diverse areas, including design, illustration, photography and print. These many skills have helped me to understand everything there is to know about design and what it takes to produce great design.
In 2007 whilst employed as a creative director, I quickly became frustrated with generating great ideas, only to brief those ideas to designers that worked with in the company I was working for at the time and be handed secondary design that wasn't to the standard I'd expect when it came down to creative flair and imagination.
So Marked Perception eveloved with a mission to only work alongside designers that were 'best in class' and since 2007 (including myself) there is now a team of 5 very talented designers working under its umbrella. 3 out of the 4 I've met along the way since leaving university in 1993 and the fourth I have known since my university days.
Together we are able to brainstorm and bounce ideas of one another, challenging every design decission made to enssure clients briefs are answered. We are friends as well as business colleagues so our friedship and work relationship will last the test of time, like true friendships do.

Heading up their Editorial department working alongside leading UK magazine publications to ensure their weekly/ monthly editorial articles were teamed with inspiring images from a collection of over 10,000,000 images to engage their audience. Managing a team of image researchers, briefing the project during daily production meetings to ensure they all had a clear vision of what the client was looking for. Editing down a selection of images to ensure their brief was met. In charge of the day to day art direction of lifestyle photo collections. Illustrator/ Visualizer for Soho. London based illustration agency Storyboard Harpers. Designing and creating storyboard artwork for above the line TV advertising commercials, providing direction for film production companies. Following agency brief, to replicate the mood, actions and lighting of their proposed TV advert to be advertised on national TV using various media including pencil, graphite, ink and marker on paper before the days of the modern Apple Mac and digital design packages. Working on storyboard illustrations for leading TV adverts and brands including: • Perrier Water • Gini Soft Drink • Lynx • Pepsi • Levi Jeans • Felix cat food

Junior designer for leading advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather London. Working on 'below the line' advertising editorial, press and direct mail advertising campaigns. Initially began an internship during my final year at Newcastle studying advertising and design. Securing full time employment after graduating until given the opportunity to move into 'above the line' campaigns at Storyboard Harpers also based in Soho London.
