From the very beginning she was a game changer and helped us plan the decorations, pick a cake (provided through the venue) and made certain that every aspect was absolutely perfect come our wedding day. On the day of, we had some people arrive that didn't RSVP and Maria immediately made certain that there were enough chairs and that they had a place to sit. This was on top of a bad crash between the church and the reception, to which Maria had cheese plates waiting for the guests that arrived early. So, I always had this view of Maravela's as being just an "okay" kind of catering/food provider. Boy was I wrong! When things with our first caterer went south, we sought out some other options. Maravela's offered the most fantastic and professional execution of our wedding on October 7th that I'm still in shock as to just how perfect it was. The food was delicious and they were able to accommodate my not being able to eat gluten! They even went as far as marking which food options were vegetarian and gluten free as we have a whole line of gluten intolerance that runs in the family. From the first contact we had with Maravela's to the food tasting with Lorenzo and the umpteen changes we had with Jodi, to the actual execution of the event with the amazing Patrick at the helm, everything was just stellar. I can't really say enough good about how fantastic a job the whole crew did. They were competitively priced, to boot!The head caterer, Patrick (who was as kind, respectful and attentive as they come) even came back during the last hour and a half of the night, long after food service was finished, to help us clean up the hall. The flexibility they offered was something that not many companies today do. For example, we were renting the Lake Villa VFW, which means we were responsible for all decorations. Even though it's not the "norm" for them, they allowed us to pick up all of our table linens the day before so we could get our decorating done the night before. The ability to do so meant we were able to relax (as much as possible) the morning of the wedding and not scramble to do eleventh hour decor finished. My daughter just got married at Maravela's and I can't say enough good things about the entire experience!  This place is a MUST. ..especially for inexperienced party planners such as myself.  Our 1st appointment blew us away.  After researching several other facilities, we were taken aback at how easy it was to plan this wedding thanks to the staff at Maravela's.  The staff is friendly, knowledgable and organized.  We walked away with a wedding packet that not only consisted of vendor recommendations but a step by step planning guide which we used for the entire event.  They also have MANY things that you can use of theirs (decorations) that other places charge you to use.  I found that many things were included at no extra charge which was very much appreciated by someone on a tight budget.  They set everything up for you and take it down.  We didn't have to go in and decorate like many other facilities wanted us to do.  And guess what...again...no extra charge.  We selected the package where the cake was included.  Come to find out they use Lovin Oven which is our FAVORITE bakery!  Their packages are well priced and very easy to follow.  There are no hidden fees or surprises at the end.  The facility was nice, the food was delicious and the staff was wonderful!  I would highly recommend Maravela's to anyone having anything from a small casual event to a large formal event! We hired Maravela's to cater our wedding at the Viking Park Dance Hall. They work with the park district and knew this location very well, and it showed. The # 1 important item to me on my wedding was to have delicious food, and Maravela's blew that away. This company does a FANTASTIC job communicating (Maria is particular is amazing) and knowing what is important for a wedding is key. Maravela's did such a wonderful job catering our wedding and their food was delicious! We had a buffet style dinner and the food was perfect temperature. We had the beef carving station, stuffed shells with alfredo sauce and chicken vesuvio as our main dishes. All of the sides we had were to die for, especially the mashed potatoes and gravy! So I visited Maravela's last night for a New Year's Eve party and wow was I impressed! We trekked here all the way from the city during a snow storm and made it too late to enjoy the dinner portion but it turned out they had saved a few hot plates for us to enjoy! How incredibly thoughtful and truly amazing service! There were two bars available with the most friendliest bartenders serving up some delicious cocktails! We had a great experience with Maria and her staff. Had our wedding on Aug 17, 2012 received the best service from owner to staff. My husband and I had been there New Years eve prior to our wedding Loved the event they really know what they are doing. As for the food everyone of our invite loved it, and severed on time not like many weddings you wait for ever to eat, and it arrives cold. Maravela has the best in all areas. We will use them again if ever another large event comes up. As for our Cake was included in our price and it was to die for!

Maravelas catered my off site wedding (at Byron Colby Barn) and everything about this experience was perfect.  Maravelas ordered and delivered my linnens, silverware, plates etc.  Maria, who coordinates the planning process, is wonderful to work with. Maravela's was a pleasure to work with and did a fantastic job at our wedding. From the very beginning, they showed genuine interest in our desires and were open to customizing the menu to meet our needs. We had a pig roast, teriyaki and sweet and sour chicken as main course (luau buffet menu). Maria was helpful with selection of the food, quantities and very flexible to changes. Maravela's has an extensive selection of table linens, and Maria was extremely helpful in offerring us options that fit our theme and venue. We had our reception at the Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake. Stan the Barn contact provided us a list of recommendations. Maravela's was one on the list. After speaking with Maria I knew this place would be my caterers. Maria is very nice and easy going. She goes over everything and even helped us save money while going over our contract! She does her job very well and truely makes you feel like you're the only bride who's having a wedding!
Maravela's has a taste testing dinner for brides and family before your event to help choose what foods you want for your wedding. The Chicken with Mushrooms is possibly the BEST chicken I've ever had. The buffet we had at our wedding was set up perfect. The staff memebers were great and kept the trays full. They were able to break down the buffet table very quietly. I can honestly say they were so quiet, I don't remember hearing/seeing the transition of buffet table to dance floor! My wife and I hired Maravela's to cater a buffet dinner for our wedding reception at the Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake in December 2008.  Maravela's was already on our list of local caterers that we wanted to try and they were highly recommended by the property manager at the Bryon Colby Barn, so that bumped them to the top of our short list.Maria was amazing to work with. She had experience working with our venue and gave us the confidence that everything would be taken care of. For as stressed out as we were on our wedding day, it was a huge relief to know that we did not have to worry about our caterer.After settling on our entrees and sides, we decided that we wanted to add a third entree and Maria invited us back for a second tasting.Day of, the Maravela's team arrived and set up quickly, quietly, and on time. The staff was very friendly and helpful.The cost for our 3-entree buffet + sides + bartender was extremely reasonable. I can't believe Maravela's is not on here yet. They are the best. Maria is so awesome to work with and she will answer every frantic e-mail and question quickly and professionally. I got so many compliments on the food. For 2 apps, 3-entree buffet with sirloin, chicken marsala and pasta (as well as vegan and kids meals) and rentals and service (including bartender but we provided our own alcohol to save some cash), we paid less than $3,000 for 90 people. Maria and Maravela's are the best and so affordable too. I researched a ton of Chicago area caterers and none came close to the value and delicious offerings they had to offer. They are one of Byron Colby Barn's recommended caterers and after I talked with Maria I didn't bother with calling the others. I would recommend them to anyone, not just brides on a budget (which was me). Catering is one of the biggest expenses that can make or break your event. I was so lucky to find them. I got a lot of bang for my buck by going with Maravela's. We went with two apps (we brought in an ethnic appetizer as well, which was fine with them) and a three-entree (pasta, chicken marsala and sirloin) buffet plus salads, starch and veggies for about 90 people and only spent slightly less than $3,000. We also were able to offer kids meal (chicken tenders) and vegan meals (eggplant parmesan). We also had some special foods needs that they attended to quickly and professionally. A huge bargain in the Chicagoland catering biz! They are extremely flexible and will pretty much work with you on whatever you want and within budget. I told her of all my needs, wants and concerns and she had a question for everything. She is always accessible through e-mail, even when you send that frantic message in the middle of the night.
