What makes a great website?
Today, websites are one of the most important assets of an organisation or business. Having a credible, professional and engaging online presence is essential. A number of factors make for a great website. First of all, it must grab your attention and a be well organised, effortlessly giving your audience what they need. Creativity is very important. Great websites use good, contemporary design and creative ideas. This makes them memorable and relevant to the organisations they are built for. Successful websites offer simple and user friendly navigation. Visitors must find everything they need quickly and easily. Search engine optimisation (SEO) is very important because it will help bring an audience to the website.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What do you require? For example, a corporate brochure, website, sales literature, editorial, branding, logo design, advertisement / artwork.
What is the budget for the job? Before beginning work a budget should be provided and/or an estimate agreed.
What is the format? Please supply relevant information about physical dimensions, page count, construction, pixel dimensions, colour profiles etc.
Why is this required? What do you want to achieve in the short/long term?
Who do you want to reach? Describe business type, group of people or individual type of person, position or status held, age, sex and other info.
What is your single most important message? What message do you want to primarily communicate to your target audience?
What is your Unique Selling Point? Please tell us what is unique about the product or service you are selling. What makes yours different?
What is your rationale? Why should the audience believe what you claim? Why would your audience want to read, watch or listen to what is produced?
Describe your creative process.
Start with the client brief. Make sure that you fully understand the client’s requirements. Make sure that you get all relevant information from the client. The job can then briefed to a designer or creative team in such a way that they completely understand the requirement and what the end result of the creative process should be. The designer or creative team can now use their skills to produce a number of ideas or designs which should explore the brief from different angles. The reason for this is to supply the client with a number of good creative alternatives. Finished creative ideas or designs are reviewed internally, weaker ideas can be weeded out. The stronger ideas and designs can then be presented to the client. A member of creative staff should be present at the presentation if required.

Web-Based Applications
Man or Mouse Studio has designed, planned and programmed a number of bespoke applications written to fulfil specific requests. Beginning with a blank screen, applications are programmed from scratch to fulfil any functions, features or purpose required. All information is then editable by the clients as freely and frequently as they wish.
