We love the home grown southern favorites like, the Country Fried Steak, Shrimp n Grits, pork chops ( all on Tuesday's special), fried chicken and the list goes on.  Their fried okra, Mac-n-cheese and other sides are the best.  Our server was Zoey and she was the fantastic.  Best times to go is earlier in the week because this place is hopping on Thursdays and Fridays so get there early as seating is first come first serve. Great food. This was an impromptu stop for us. Unfortunately we didn't know a conference was going on in the area so it was extra busy. They did what they could with the staff. Wait times were long and the inside was hotter than the outside since the door was opening so much.  I was disappointed that they ran out of squash casserole and didn't let me know until I got my food. Hopefully next time they will prep better when a conference is in town to accommodate all. Maybe add more staff and make more food. More...

I just had a late lunch at Mama's for my first time, but it will NOT be my last. I was in the mood for a country-style veggie plate, and, boy, did I go to the right place!  I ordered Mac and cheese, which was not the best I ever had, but it was good; green beans, that tasted like my granny used to make -- yummy; black-eyed peas, yum; and squash casserole that was DELISH!!!  They were out of several things, which was understandable since I went in after the lunch rush. Their sweet tea is perfectly sweetened and strong just like I like it. They were out of cornbread, but I'll be back to try that soon!  I sat at the bar and the service was great!   Try it. We're from Texas and just visited Mamas for the 2nd time today. You'll not be disappointed! They have the BEST fried green tomatoes! The black eyed peas were wonderful as well. The food here is just as tasty as it looks, and the portions are HUGE! I ordered a1/2 Crawfish Po'boy, and the meat was just falling off of it. I had a hard time finishing my meal, but I didn't want to waste a bite! The wait staff is very friendly, and they were out of meatloaf by 12:30! It appeared that there are a lot of locals that eat here from surrounding businesses, and that we were the only tourists. Wish we would have had time to go back for a 2nd time! More...

Far and away the best of down home southern cooking - if you visit just one restaurant while in Mobile, you must visit Mama's. Open for breakfast and lunch (closes at 3 PM) - highly recommend the lunch specials (meatloaf and fried chicken) or the fried fish platter.
