What makes a great website?
One that sells. A pretty website that doesn't sell is worthless. You must define the objective and call-to-action of the website before a "template" is even discussed. I caution clients who get very low website quotes - you will spend more time fixing bugs than promoting your great content.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Where do you want to be in three years? Five years? Who are your customers? A client that wants to be acquired is marketed very differently than a client that wants to grow their company 500% or potentially go for VC funding. I have a two page questionnaire for new clients that is very thought-provoking and really makes a client think about why they are asking for certain things. A potential client may come in asking for PR and we quickly realize that another marketing strategy is the best way to reach their goals.
Describe your creative process.
We have an intensive strategy and discovery process to best determine what needs really are - our goal is to come up with a plan that will meet a client's needs and not waste time or resources with trial and error. It's a partnership and we work as a team.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
We request a free discovery call to do a needs assessment and then provide a one-page questionnaire to be completed by the client. At that point we provide the client with a proposal including a recommendation, budget and timeline.
What do you love most about your job?
Learning. Every client introduces a new perspective to solving a challenge and we get so excited to share their creative approaches with the world. Unfortunately, it's not "if you build it they will come." The best ideas sometimes are left undiscovered in a garage. We want to show everyone how amazing some of our client innovations are and we have the expertise and tools necessary to do so.
What inspired you to start your own business?
This is Sarah - I have spent more than 20 years in tech. I grew up in broadband standards watching DSL take over the world country by country. It was exciting. I've done agency PR and corporate marketing. With a BS in public relations and an MBA with marketing concentration, I decided that being a VP of Marketing was great for awhile, but not a permanent career path: it was too limiting. I knew so many amazing freelancers and had expertise in some of the most innovative marketing tools available and I wanted to share these with many companies, not just the one I happened to work for at the moment. So I started Mainspire, pooled my resources and brought together the world's best team to represent you. I am picky about the people who work with Mainspire. And I am also picky about our clients: we want to work with clients that have a genuine interest in solving some of the world's most complex and important challenges. I want to be passionate when I talk about what my clients do - I need to believe it to pitch it. We work with our clients as an extension of their team. True partners. And we like to have fun while we shout from the rooftops!
