My new favorite go to for amazing food from breakfast to killer Sammie's. I'm obsessed with the Ty Cobb sandwich. They have many organic items, and the greens, tomatoes, etc. are fresh, ripe and what we grow in our own garden. This little gem is a must! San Rafael just upped its food game. Friendly service, great atmosphere and always some specials. Go on Friday Fry Day, the one and only day they do French fries. Love this! More...

We ate here Saturday afternoon for lunch.  We both got salads.  I had the Cobb.  The best Cobb salad I have ever had in my life.  Maybe I was just really hungry but it had, tomatoes, egg, turkey, bacon and a super nice flavorful dressing.  It was super yummy.  ALso their tap water is in a HUGE container with fresh fruit and ice.  A very nice touch, lots of help yourself fresh drinking water.  Who would have thought?  I'd go back in a sec when in San Rafael.  Oh also nice pleasant service! I was looking for a good salad and sandwich place that wasn’t Blue Barn. MPK rivals Blue Barn in their taste and options but at prices I can afford. I tried the Heirloom beet salad and the Cubano sandwich. They were both excellent! I can’t wait to go back to try more menu items...someone else posted about their fried chicken, and am amazing BLT, just FYI. More...

We walked by this place (which in earlier years was the lighthouse, a danish restaurant) so often never had the urge to walk in. But I discovered it on yelp and was intrigued by the picture of great looking sandwiches. And they do deliver those! You pay and order at the entrance and they have table service from there. Everything is fresh and taste full - it's Marin prices so don't expect a bargain but as they have good ingredients and are just in the middle of the town it is reasonably priced. We will come back often when we are to lazy to drive to our regular spots in Novato (bacon), Berkely (Gilman grill) or we just had visit the miracle mile cafe in San Rafael. All these spots are among the best breakfast spots and of course I don't want to forget to mention the "le croissant " just in our neighborhood. We love to support the smaller spots since they are offering personality and great dishes. So please consider those spots for your lunch or breakfast! More...

Best salad spot in town. No doubt. I can't believe I let so much time go by before trying this place. This is a salad/sandwich lovers dream. Each gourmet salad has its own creative recipe and it was so hard to choose! You have the option to add avocado, bacon, chicken, steak, cheese, or tofu to any salad for a small fee. I throughly enjoyed the arugula salad with avocado added. My mom got the fattoush with bacon and it was equally as delicious. The portions are huge, ingredients are fresh, literally worth every penny! Great list of wine and good selection of beer, kombucha and drinks. I can't wait to eat here again! More...

How have I not been to this place yet?! Magnolia Park Kitchen is absolutely delicious! I was missing out on excellent sandwiches and salads all of this time until now. I am so happy I've tried this place and I'm excited to come back to try some other menu items. This place has both a large salad and sandwich menu with something for everyone. Seriously, everything sounded delicious on the menu. I ended up ordering the Roast Turkey sandwich which was wonderful. You could tell all of the ingredients were high quality and it tasted magical together. They had a sweet pepper jam on the sandwich and it left me wanting more. Also, all of their sandwiches come with a side of homemade potato chips. I got my sandwich to-go and ate all of the chips on my drive home since they were that good... Also, while I was waiting, I was watching all of the salads go by and wow, I'm not much of a salad person but they looked absolutely delicious as well and huge! The location is a bit tucked away but it is in the same complex as Coldstone and Arizmendi. They have a small outdoor patio if you want to bring your furry friend or they have plenty of seating indoors. Their decor inside is rustic modern and it is so cute! The only thing I wish was if this place was open for dinner since I'm not nearby during the day. However, whenever I'm around when it's open, I'll be back! More...

The hidden gem of San Rafael. Truly, some of the best sandwiches and salads I’ve ever feasted upon. For first timers and if you like a little heat, you must try the Chicken Bomb - as it’s name implies, it’s the bomb. The chips are addicting, so order an extra side. Very charming place with lots of incredible food options! 5 stars. More...

I'm sorry it took me so long to come in... A very fulfilling, wonderful salad. I had the Quinoa Salad, which wasn't a quinoa based salad but a greens and vegetable salad with quinoa, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The ginger-garlic(?) tahini dressing had good body so it kept its tahini flavor and stayed on the greens. Too often I've had thin tahini dressings which barely tasted like tahini. A little broccoli, apples, julienned carrots of various colors (my favorite way to have carrots and other hard veg) and half an avocado - I enjoyed every bite. Yes, a little bit pricier than some other places but totally worth the quality and avocado.Looking forward to trying your other offerings! More...

I'm shocked that I hadn't been here before, since I live really close by.  I only wandered in because people on NextDoor were raving about it.Whoever runs MPK clearly understands that making a stellar sandwich is no simple feat - the proverbial devil is in the details.  It's not just that the ingredients are fresh, but that there's a sense of....I guess you could call it 'cuisine': great seasoning, sauces, textures, proportions, the interplay between ingredients, the way meats aren't under- or over-cooked, and so on.  It's that elusive element in food that makes the whole greater than the sum of the parts (and altogether delicious).  Hitting that bullseye on a daily basis has got to be tricky.I asked for a few substitutions, hoping it would be ok (e.g., I'm a wimp when it comes to heat, preferred another cheese, etc), and the staff was kind & enthusiastic.  I know it can be a pain to change things around, so I really appreciated their flexibility.I wish I had photos, but I, uh, inhaled everything.  When a kitchen's approach is painstaking, something as seemingly mundane as a sandwich becomes a delightful, even transcendent, part of your day!  The highest compliment I can pay MPK is that their food didn't just nourish me; it brought me joy.  I felt like it was money very well spent and will be returning many a time.  My only (minor) quibble is that I wish they were open into the evening!  I suppose the morning & lunchtime crowds are their bread & butter, but it would be lovely to swing by after work for a dinnertime meal before heading home.  Whatever keeps them going is fine by me, though.I know I sound like I'm on their payroll, but really, this may be the finest sandwich establishment in all of Marin. I LOVE Magnolia Park Kitchen. My dad and his friend meet here every Friday for sandwiches and scones, and he brings home some to share! Even though I have the food mostly at home rather than in the restaurant, the sandwiches are awesome. We almost always get the chicken bomb and the tuna salad sandwich. I usually don't like tuna salad, but Magnolia Park's is delicious and the only tuna salad I will eat. The chicken bomb is just a blast of flavor, and the combination of the slaw and aioli sauce with the chicken is perfect. You can tell scones are made fresh, and they rotate through different flavors. My favorite flavors are the birthday cake and blueberry lemon flavors, but it's fun to go in and see what new kinds of scones I get to try! I know whatever one (or two) I get will be tasty. I've actually have only been inside the restaurant a few times, but it is a lot bigger than it looks! Plenty of seating indoors and out, and it has a cozy feel without being cramped. It feels like home, especially since the food is so good! Plus, the staff is very kind and serves you quickly.Magnolia Park Kitchen is one of my favorite places to stop when I'm in Downtown San Rafael, and I would recommend it again and again to all my friends. I very much appreciate the labeling of the salad menu for dietary restrictions, I just wish they would make it clear in the other dishes too. I had the fresh catch of the day sandwich on gluten free bread, which was delicious, although it would have been better if the gluten free option was a roll instead of slices, which tend to get soggy right away. The chips that come with it are also wonderful and I love the seasoning on them. Good, fast service and comfortable outdoor seating. More...

This was my first time trying Magnolia Park Kitchen in San Rafael.  I ordered the chicken bomb sandwich that came with the house chips and had it delivered. The sandwich was so good. The fried chicken was perfect. Not too much breading and just the right amount of crunch on the perfect bun. The slaw was spicy, but not too spicy.  I'm not a fan of really spicy food and I was a bit nervous that it would be, but it was the right spiciness for me. Also I was really happy that the sandwich arrived still warm.  The house chips were just ok.  I will definitely be back! More...

A delightful cafe that I wish was closer to home! I read about salads, and in a quest for a healthy lunch, Magnolia Park Kitchen was a perfect choice. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. It's cute, free wifi, service was great and the menu is scrumptious; it was hard to choose. I went with the detox salad (I added grilled chicken) and it was large and in charge. It wasn't the cheapest salad (think $17ish with the added on chicken), but it was so good and healthy! They have a free coffee and a Yelp check-in, and what a great deal! Nice and strong coffee, too.As you can see, I sampled the scone as well. It was superb! So delicious, I ate only half since I'm trying not to indulge too much, but the bites were delicious. Overall, a delightful cafe. I'd return for lunch in a heartbeat! More...

I thought I had already reviewed this place but apparently not here. I have been coming since this place opened. Love the Fried Chicken Bomb, and have brought several friends here for lunch also and they love it too. That being said, the music is WAY TOO LOUD. When I spend money to eat out , it's to enjoy being able to think, read, or socialize with friends I've treated to lunch. If the music is blaring right over the tables , it sends a strong message that you don't care about the comfort of your paying patrons nor do you care if they can engage in comfortable conversations. We should not have to talk over the music. The music level isn't about the staff...they can blast music on their own time. This isn't a bar, it's a small cafe.Being in customer service over 30 years and understanding that consumers are the backbone of any business, ive observed the counter staff should be a bit nicer also.Be humble , treat people like they matter because without us , you don't have a job.Act accordingly. Other than that...food is always good! More...

Ordering online was easy, but a few errors were made.  That being said, the order was ready on time (15 mins) even though the restaurant was crowded when we arrived for pick-up.  The staff is really friendly and eager to please.  The veggie sandwich was juicy and delicious, albeit with red peppers which were supposed to be omitted, the steak sandwich was hearty, satisfying and tasted great.  The pulled pork, came with a crunchy slaw, which we asked for on the side, but it didn't make the bread too soggy as anticipated - so it was good!  The seared fish sandwich was absolutely da bomb!  Homemade potato chips - WOW!  We will definitely head back! The best sandwiches in Marin County can be found here. They use Acme Bread, which is my favorite, but they also use quality ingredients for the inside stuff on the sandwich. My favorite is the Ty Cobb, with turkey, bacon, blue cheese, avocado, etc. My co-workers all like the Chipotle Lime Chicken sandwich and the Club. It's a few bucks more than most deli sandwiches, but it's a few bucks less than sandwiches in a typical restaurant. The salads look huge and full of good stuff, but there's no way I'm missing out on the bread. I almost forgot the delicious freshly made chips that come with all sandwich orders. Lastly, the people who work here seem pretty happy and they always provide friendly customer service. More...

This is a great spot for lunch. They have a wide selection of salads and sandwiches with unique ingredients. They also give the option of adding avocado to anything (for $2) which is always appreciated. The only downside is that it is pretty expensive. For a salad (add avo), sandwich (add bacon), and a coffee it was over $30.I ordered the MPK Fattoush with the dressing on the side and I added avocado. First of all, their website prices are lower than what they offer in store. That was disappointing. But the salad was unique. The cucumber had a great crunch and I waffled with the idea of removing the pita chips but they were a great addition. They added a nice crunch without being giant lumps of bread like croutons. The only item I could have done without was the olives - they were too salty.Note: I was NOT offered fresh ground pepper when my salad was delivered, but the table next to mine was.My boyfriend ordered the Cheezy and added bacon. He seemed to really like that they added dijon to the grilled cheese sandwich. I tried their MPK seasoned chips and I thought they were alright. Not the best but not the worst chips I have had.Overall, I enjoyed the drama and whimsy of their salad selection and I will come back to try others. But I think this is not a cheap option by any means and will not become a regular location. More...

Daaaaamn!!! Now, THAT'S what you call a salad! Magnolia Park Kitchen just presented me with one of the BEST salads that I've had in a long while! If fresh had a visual definition, their salad would be it. I came here for lunch one day while working in the area and left out of there so satisfied! There was a line when I came in, but it moved pretty quickly. Their menu has a nice spread of both salads and sandwiches. Normally I'd choose a sandwich over a salad, but I was having a rare salad craving that day and decided to take a chance and try something new. Spotted the Yucatán salad on the menu and the description alone made me crave it. I ordered this and added avocado (because we all know how much I LOVE avocado!). The interior is cozy and trendy. They have a self service water station and their front patio is adorbs! I've always seen people sitting out on their patio when I've passed by. The manager personally delivered my salad to my table! He even came back to ask me how I was enjoying everything. How's that for personalized service? But back to that salad... HEAVENLY!!! It was beautifully presented and tasted amazing! Served in a huge bowl and tossed with lots of yummy black beans, cherry tomatoes, and corn. And that AVOCADO! They literally gave me a whole avocado and sliced it up perfectly. Avocado was so fresh that you would have thought that they had just picked it from a tree! The chipotle-lime dressing paired with this salad perfectly. I just realized that this salad was completely vegan. And guess what? It was friggin' phenomenal! This place is an excellent spot for vegans, vegetarians, and carnivores alike! My one teeny weeny nitpick would of course have to be about the price. A salad can run you about $15 here. However, for the freshness and quality of their product, it's simply just worth it. Excellent salads and excellent service! I can't wait to try one of their sandwiches the next time I'm working nearby. More...

Big portions, fresh and tasty. Quick turnaround for lunch. Decor is right up my alley, industrial homey comfort a la Joanna Gaines (HGTV), hence the name I suppose. The menu items are straightforward Americana with a little ethnic influence. I was eye-balling what was essentially a fried chicken sandwich but went with a Cuban sandwich. My son went with a grilled chicken sandwich which featured a chipotle sauce and a roasted poblano pepper. In house made potato chips came as a side.  Next time I'll be giving their salads a try. One sandwich easily feeds two people unless your starving. In my perfect world I'd rather have about half the food for about 60% of the cost. Alas, businesses do what they need to do to stay afloat, so plan for the volume accordingly. More...

Love their customer service!!Let me give you some background: This one time I tried to be healthy and ordered the Quinoa salad from Magnolias. Half the reason I ordered it was because it had avocado on it. I took it to go for my lunch break and was distraught when I scrambled around my salad and found no avocados :( I felt petty but my craving for avocado led me to call in & see if I could come back and have them put some avos on this salad. After many apologies, they went the extra mile and DELIVERED the avocados to my office in addition to a scone on the house. I'm sitting here eating my avocados and quinoa and I'm very happy to have called. Will return again for their hospitality and nice avos. More...

Picked up some lunch from here & it was good.Garden Basket salad was ok. It was supposed to have mixed greens, roasted eggplant, roasted corn, roasted squash, snow peas &  tomato. Well, it was mostly greens with couple of tomatoes & couple of tiny piece of what looked liked eggplant.  Unfortunately, there was no corn, no squash and no peas.  It did however have beets & bell peppers. Go figure. The buttermilk dressing was very good. It had a garlic punch to it which I wasn't expecting.Avocado Tartine was to die for. Crushed avocado, olive oil, sea salt on grilled Acme levain. I wish I had more of that toast & next time will order me a couple of those instead of a salad. Will be back soon. More...

I'm not usually in downtown SR during lunchtime, and when I am I kind of stay away from the SR plaza area. Big mistake. BIG. Magnolia blew me away. Local and organic foods and wine in a laid-back cafe environment with lovely outdoor seating. Their menu is nice and healthy -- lots of salads and sandwiches - but I opted for the item on the menu of the day, the shrimp po boy. HOLY SH. One of the best I ever had. Still felt healthy. The guy working there was so sweet, too. More...

I ate at Magnolia Park Kitchen this past saturday with my son. We each ordered a sandwich. They were impeccably made. I've eaten at this restaurant 5 or 6 times. The food has been consistent every time. In fact, my last visit was the best.I have one concern, MPK is possibly overlooked due to its position set in the back of the square. I live in San Francisco and I've had no problem finding it. Without question, this restaurant is worth a visit. If it were on Clement St in the Inner Richmond, they would be crushing it. More...

Let's talk parking first-Waze/GPS will direct you to a deadend street that leads to a parking structure for local banks and shops. We just found parking on the street and walked down the courtyard steps to the restaurant's patio. As you enter, the chalkboard menu tempts you will fresh salads and sandwiches. A large dispenser sits nearby, offering free cups of fresh ice water. There is also a daily menu of scones and soups from which to chose. The kitchen is part of the dining area and the cooks seemed to take pride in their work. Each order comes with a street name to set on the table, rather than the typical order number. The sandwiches are large, good and fresh. I got the roast turkey and it was good! The pricing is a bit high for sandwiches, but probably typical for this Bay Area town. More...

I started working in downtown San Rafael about a year ago and I was told you HAVE to try Magnolia Park Kitchen and I am so glad that I did. I don't have the most diverse pallet as far what I like to eat, yet MPK delivers! Their salads are delicious, but the BLT or MPK club with the garlic aioli are BOMB! I go here about once a week and my order has never been wrong, the staff is always friendly and never seem to get frazzled when they are busy (which is pretty much always), and Robert, the owner, is almost always there and speaks to you. The owner and staff are genuine and the food is delicious. I would highly recommend. If you plan on taking it to go, I would suggest calling ahead and ordering pick up because it gets REALLY busy :) More...

From delicious sandwiches to tasty salads, I've yet to order something on their menu which didn't delight my culinary senses. The owner, Robert, always greets his patrons with a smile no matter how busy it is and offers up a recommendation when you just can't make up your mind. My personal favorite is the seared fish (salmon) sandwich which comes with a side of home-made potato chips. The aioli dressing and arugula sprinkled on top of the salmon combines to make he perfectly cooked piece of salmon absolutely delicious! I also love the fatoosh salad with tender, juicy chicken. And for those stuck with AT&T cellular "non-service" in the downtown San Rafael area, Magnolia Park Kitchen offers free wifi. It's become my favorite luncheon destination in San Rafael and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do. More...

I've been here twice recently, and found the food quite good.  The chicken bomb is juicy, crisp, and delicious.  I like the coleslaw in the sandwich, and I usually hate coleslaw.  The price point is high at $12.75, so it would be more of a "special occasion" sandwich for me.  Today I got the green goddess sandwich.  It's very mayonnaise-y, so if that's not your thing, don't order this.  I found the bread a little overcooked and hard, like it was in the press too long.  Pesto flavor, avocado and mozzarella all tasted really fresh and delish!  $9.75 for this sandwich, which is still a bit high for what you get, but it's Marin and everything is expensive I guess. Both sandwiches include homemade potato chips.  The first time I got them they were way over cooked and inedible.  Today they were much better tasting, but still a bit done to my taste.  I recommend cooking them to doneness, but not over-doneness please. First visit to this restaurant. I worked locally in San Rafael, and the menu spoke to me when I looked it up. I was looking for a fried chicken sandwich in the area that might be very tasty.  I was also getting a sandwich for my friend, who cannot have any dairy products. I called to place an order but the first check to see if there was dairy in the sandwich. Person who answered the phone, Robert, perhaps the owner, told me what was in the sandwich. He even offered to make one of the sandwiches without buttermilk.  To me this was extraordinary, so I placed an order for one sandwich with everyone so much without buttermilk. I picked up the order, which also came with homemade chips that were absolutely delicious and not greasy at all. My friend was thrilled to get the sandwich, without dairy. He absolutely loved it, and I enjoyed mine too.  This is the kind of place that I want to get more meals from. The level of service and follow through, the quality of the food, and the great service upon arrival made this an outstanding experience that I recommend to anyone.  Thanks Robert and everyone at Magnolia Park Kitchen! It came with spiced potato chips (which I did not care for) (next time I'll check in to see if there's an option). That with a crisp cool glass of fume blanc was fabulous. Very casual. I am kind of obsessed with this place right now! I love their salads! Hubby and I went for lunch last week and I ordered the Fatoush salad with avocado as an add on and the hubby ordered the fried chicken bomb sandwich. My fatoush was so good--fresh, clean and full of flavor! I have been back four times to pick up a salad for lunch (and I ordered the fatoush three times)!!! Hubby really enjoyed his chicken bomb as well--with a side of their seasoned hand made chips (of course I stole a couple). I finally tried one of their other salads yesterday---Yucatán with avocado. Omg...yummm!!!!! The chipotle lime dressing is so smoky and yummy. The salads are a bit expensive, but they give you a huge salad and it's totally worth it. I am a fan of this place. When they first opened i had an inward groan, oh another hipster "new American" style restaurant with inefficient lighting...you know the type. But MPK does offer DELICIOUS food and I guess I have to admit that new American is kind of my thing. I could speak to many things on their menu, but I have found the salads to be the stand out menu choice for me. They are unique and thoughtful combinations of substantial, well sourced, and fresh ingredients. They are a touch expensive for the daily fare, but I am always happy to rely on the MPK salad options when I run out of time to make my own. Also I am pretty sure the owner is in there regularly and seems to watch over his business with great care and concern. He always checks in with the diners and monitors kitchen prep, etc. I appreciate someone who is hands on with the business and it is reflected in the consistent quality of the food.I was wrong about you, MPK; thanks for not holding that against me. This place is making me fat.  ;PStopped in this morning for a coffee and a scone.  Oooohhhh delicious scone.  Coffee was an afterthought, since I'm admittedly not a big coffee drinker.  I might now be a coffee drinker.  Soooo smooth and fresh-tasting.  I realized that I picked my scone this morning by process of elimination -- which one HAVEN'T I tried over the last week?  I'm not kidding.  And, to be clear, I only discovered this place a week ago.  Again, let me say, this place is making me fat.  I'd heard online rumblings of an interesting and yummy new place downtown.  My ears always perk up at the mention of nearby yumminess.  Put it on my mental list of places to try.  My foodie Portland friend came to visit, and we decided to go in and check it out.  L-O-V-E.   She had the fattoush salad and I went with the Shroomin' sando.  And a scone.  Had to try the scone, as so many had mentioned in.  This was a Tuesday.   By Friday, I'd found a reason to visit again.  Meeting a friend downtown.  Everyone's gotta eat, right?  This time, the Ty Cobb sando was my drug of choice.  And a scone.  Lunch was delicious and satisfying.  I'm still thinking about that sandwich, I admit it.Then today, the next Monday, waiting for yet another meeting to begin. Magnolia Park a stone's throw away plus 20 minutes to kill equals...you guessed it!  A scone.  And my delicious previously-mentioned coffee. This place is making me fat.  But I'm having so much fun!   Try this place if you want to get fat too.Staff is super friendly as well.  Held back that fifth star only because it does add up $$-wise. Plus, some item portions can be downright puny.  My friend got a cup of soup.  The cup looked like it was sized for a doll.  Seriously.  Also, I'm not a fan of their house chips, which are served with each sando.  A bit flavorless, and a bit too crispy to be a fry, but too thick to make a good chip.  Just give us some pickled veggies or something instead.  Otherwise, this place is darned near perfection. We're always complaining about the lack of good places to eat in Marin and it sounded promising. The restaurant is really cute inside and we were greeted by the sweetest cashier. She suggested the fried chicken sandwich and we also ordered the Cubano and purchased some delicious looking scones. The fried chicken was AMAZING. The Cubano was also good but not my favorite I've had. The chips that they sandwiches are served with are addictive. While we ate, we watched people piling in, one after another, and the hostess/cashier not only greeted everyone warmly but was also refilling the water and checking in on every guest. Stopped in with a friend as it looked healthy and inviting. Great options for salads and sandwiches.  I ordered 2 salads and drinks for us but when we received them, we were puzzled as not what we expected. After raising the issue to whom I believe the owner, he informed us the order was in fact correct.  Huh?  Well turns out MY mistake - I mixed up the names and ordered the wrong ones.  Very embarrassed I said ok, my mistake, we'll just keep these.  He then insisted he will make us new ones for what I had meant to order.  I felt bad as 2 good salads had been wasted.  But he insisted and when I went to pay for the increase, he said not to worry about it (we did at the end anyway).  So attention to the customer is excellent. The salads were great as well.  We had the Beijing chicken with hoisin-grilled chicken, snow peas, roasted corn, chilies for a little heat, scallions and honey roasted cashews.  Very fresh and a nice balance to all the varied ingredients. Ice tea was not your standard restaurant mix - very fresh and favorable. Looking forward to going back and trying the scrumptious looking sandwiches next time. More...

Great new lunch spot in downtown San Rafael! We tried the Fattoush salad and Beijing chicken salad, both were great! Only thing I'd recommend are big umbrellas for the hot patio. It would make it more inviting outside, especially since they are only open during the day. More...

Tried MPK over the weekend and was very happy with the decor, food and outdoor seating. This place is a breathe of fresh air in San Rafael, since most sandwich places are kinda gross in regards to food and decor. MPK is a place I would go with friends for a casual meal and actually enjoy hanging out. The menu is extensive and I hope they eventually lengthen their hours at some point so that it could be a dinner takeout option in the future. There is no place in Marin that has these takeout options at night. In terms of the food, my SO got the fried chicken bomb sandwich, which was good but I felt need a dose of hot sauce to make it great. I had the roast turkey sandwich which was also very good, but had different ingredients than what was actually listed - however it was very good so I didnt mind. I will def be going back soon. Such a great new place in town. My friend and I ordered salads and they were delicious. The portions were so big that we didn't even finish it! The owner came to our table and asked us if we thought the portions were okay. I really liked that he checked on us. I will definitely go back soon and try something else, probably the fried chicken sandwich :) More...

Stopped by for lunch and got the "Little Gem" salad with chicken (extra). It was delicious. I am very excited to have a new place like this in San Rafael. The ingredients were all high quality, good chicken (no grizzle, cooked perfectly), the greens were all crisp, and the salad was tossed with just the right amount of dressing. I really like the location and atmosphere, I wish all the eateries on Court St. were this good! Nice to see the place busy, yet the wait time wasn't bad at all. Plenty of seating too. I would compare it to Blue Barn in Corte Madera, but better. I enjoyed it much more. Better portion control.  My only reason for deducting a star is that this all comes at a high price. It's pretty expensive. Overall I'm okay with paying for good healthy food, but probably can't afford to make this a more than once or twice a week place. I think for the price, salads should come with an optional small bread roll, chips, or something. From the looks of what others were eating and photos on Yelp, I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. Give it a shot! More...

So happy that we have a great new restaurant in downtown San Rafael! Top quality ingredients with mostly organic produce - what's there not to like? Have eaten their food three times in one week! Their scones were huge and buttery! My husband thought they were delicious, I am not a big scone person but definitely tasty.  I swung by last weekend and picked up a grilled cheese sandwich - good but their homemade potato chips are the best I have ever had!  Today, I bought their fried chicken sandwich and I can understand why it is popular.  Love the coleslaw that comes on top.  Can't wait to try their delicious-sounding salads.  All in all, congratulations to MPK and thank you for opening up a fine quality restaurant in downtown San Rafael More...

MPK has been open for about a month and I'm already a regular. Love love love their food and the fact that they are in downtown San Rafael...finally we have a place to get great salads and sandwiches! (Pre-MPK, I frequented Blue Barn and Rustic Bakery.) Everything I've tried has been delicious: Beijing Chicken Salad, Arugula Salad, Green Detox, Beet Salad, Little Gems Salad (I added prawns). When I'm not in a salad mood, I can't resist the Chicken Bomb sandwich or the Green Goddess. I'm still making my way through the rest of the menu! Their homemade scones are scrumptious too. And the drink selection is great...I usually go for a kombucha or a fresh brewed iced tea. There's also wine and beer. I had a nice glass of rose one day with my late lunch. I don't find parking to be a problem. I can always find a spot on 5th St, right above the courtyard. The downtown parking meters now take credit cards or you can pay via an app. The owner and staff are super friendly...I have nothing but positives to say about Magnolia Park Kitchen. San Rafael is lucky to have them! More...

Holy mother of Green Goddess! This sandwich is delicious! Oozy, gooey melted cheese, avocado, pesto, little herby greens, crispy toasted pannini bread - YUM. So comforting but you can pretend it's healthy too.The seared tuna sandwich was also great. Perfectly seared tuna with a well balanced aoili, thin slices of picked ginger and a little arugula. The bun was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and just slightly sweet. Great balance of flavors.Let's talk about salad. Generally I don't bother with salad because it's often a disappointing pile of flavorless, mushy "spring mix" and a couple of pale, insipid tomato slices. But MPK does a salad worth the name (and the money). In fact, I would go so far as to say it's the only place in town I'll bother ordering a salad from.MFK fattoush salad: Bright and refreshing. Nice variety and generous proportion of veggies versus lettuce, pita chips, chick peas, olives, etc. All very very fresh and crisp, with a nice mild feta. If the delicious garlicky vinaigrette were available by the bottle we would buy it. The Garden Basket salad was also good - they swapped eggplant & roasted red pepper instead of roasted squash, which was kind of nice. I LOVED the dressing - homemade, super garlicky ranch. You could drink it by the glass. My only complaint is that they could have cut up the large leaves of lettuce - they were too big. Can't wait to try the scones. I was in at the end of the day and the scones had long since sold out. More...

Congratulations, San Rafael! We finally have a real destination for some of the most scrumptious salads and sandwiches in the county! The best ingredients and all served with a smile right in the downtown plaza with your choice of indoors or patio. Before Magnolia Park Kitchen, there were only Rustic and Blue Barn, but now my number 1 choice is Magnolia hands-down. I haven't tried a salad I didn't love and I've tried three. The Detox is possibly my favorite, but the Beijing Chicken is a close second. Did you read the rave review about the fried chicken sandwich in Pacific Sun? Well, I tried it last week just based on the write-up and let's just say, I'm returning today for another one.I used to head to the east bay for certain blue wig-wearing fried chicken fame, but no longer. The "Chicken Bomb" sandwich at Magnolia is the perfect blend of crunch, salt, spice... Dang! I need that sandwich now, but lucky me, I've got a lunch date in a couple hours. Patience, my belly. I can do it. More...

So good! My husband, mother-in-law and I had a fantastic early dinner here on Thursday night. The proprietor was attentive and very knowledgeable about local, organic food & dishes, San Rafael history, and the restaurant business. The fattoush salad with the grilled chicken (really tender) add-on was a very refreshing and generous portion; and the steak sandwich had a fun flavor combination with balsamic onions and blue cheese. I loved facing the mural of historic San Rafael as I ate - beautifully painted by a local artist (featured on the restaurant website). We heartily enjoyed this delicious, fresh, high quality food in a clean & classic modern barnwood kitchen setting. We'll be back, bringing friends! More...

Stereotypical "Marin" restaurant selling healthy pricey food, however their Chicken Sandwich is the reason I'll return.Pros: chicken sandwich, variety of sandwiches/salads, alcohol, friendly service Cons: price, parking I stopped by this small restaurant with one objective in mind, their "Crispy Fried Chicken Bomb". I had small expectations with a background of chicken sandwiches from Chik-fil-a and Showdogs in SF. With that in mind, I was amazed at how delicious the chicken sandwich was here. The chicken meat was thick, juicy and had a crispy skin just how I like it. Topped with cabbage, peppers, sauce and  a ciabatta bun I was surprised at its unique flavor. The ingredients complimented each other and the spice was very subtle from the peppers. At some point I felt like it needed some salt, but is a good thing since the chips on the side was the solution. I suggest adding some Tobasco sauce as the spicy vinegar flavor is a huge compliment to the juicy chicken meat.I'm dissapointed at how expensive the chicken sandwich which was around $13, as I would visit more often. Most of the choices here were at least $10 or more so I understand why the chicken sandwich would be more of the pricier options. Parking in downtown San Rafael is also a hassle dealing with parking meters. Since this restaurant is fairly new, I'm excited to see how much they grow and hopefully make some adjustments to their pricing. I appreciated meeting the owner and how he asked for my opinion on my meal. Overall, it's a typical restaurant in Marin which proves to be healthy yet pricey. Their "Crispy Fried Chicken Bomb" sandwich makes them unique and will have me returning for more. More...

Fantastic! I was having a couple friends over for lunch and ran out of time! I called in an order to-go and was SO happy that I did! My order was ready when I arrived to pick it up (10 minutes after my call) and I was even able to buy a bottle of wine to go with it! Totally saved me from having to stop at another store. And then the food was delicious! We had a Cubano, Chicken Bomb Sando, Green Goddess and the Yucatan Salad. We shared everything and ate every bite. I will be a regular! More...

Our first time here ... it was a nice surprise. The setting has both inside and outside seating, but you'll need to order inside at the counter. Clean, well appointed, the setting was quite inviting. We tried salads and a couple of sandwiches. For salads, we tried the Farmhouse, Kale Caesar, MPK Fattoush (subbed house-made buttermilk ranch dressing) and Beijing chicken. All were served in deep, large bowls - could easily be a meal by themselves. All salads were very good, and offered a fine mix of greens, veggies and meat (chicken was included with two of them, but you can sub grilled chicken breast, grilled skirt steak, grilled prawns, seared Ahi or Hobbs applewood bacon, for extra). For sandwiches we tried the Cheezy and the MPK club. Let's talk about the sandwiches - as of this point in time, skip them. The cheezy was rather cheese less, and all I could taste was bread. Not good. The MPK club was mildly better, only because it had taste. Still, the meat was minimal. Seemed like a couple of slices of turkey and bacon were thought of as enough - it's not. By comparison, there are other places in San Rafael where a hearty sandwich can be had for same price or cheaper. And with a Mr. Pickles next door, I suggest more work in the sandwich area - perhaps even add a side of potato salad or coleslaw - and mix it up a bit (jalapeño coleslaw with MPK club Perfect !!) So thumbs down on both sandwiches. But the salads - outstanding. Good and fresh ingredients, plenty of dressing, a perfect meal - any of the ones we had would be ordered again. The iced teas were served in mason jars, a nice touch, but they need to use a larger size - quart. Had those in South Tahoe - perfect for a meal. These smaller ones would require several refills, and with no table service that's a lot of trips to the counter for the four drinks we ordered. The tea itself was tasty, and had a different flavor to it than we usually find - and, of course, I forgot to ask what they used. Maybe I'll remember next time ! I understand they've been open just a couple of weeks - the young man helping his father/owner was polite and patient with us, as I hope we were with him. I see a good future for the MPK, but please address the sandwich issue ! Otherwise, a good and filling lunch! We'll visit again to see how it's growing ... More...

I have been waiting for this place to open for a long time. When we went I noticed that it was located right next to Mr. Pickles Sandwich's so it probably had a lot of competition but I'm  that I picked MPK. I had the Green Goddess and the BLT. The Green Goddess is a great sandwich for vegetarians. It was very delicious! The avocado was sliced beautifully. The BLT was Bomb and it had a very nice crunch and the Apple smoked  bacon had a very nice crisp and the tomatoes were great. Also the chicken that I ordered on the side. It was nice and tender with a nice and sweet crunch.Overall it was great and I can't wait to go back! More...

We've been to Magnolia Park Kitchen twice and it's absolutely terrific! Finally a really good place to eat at B of A Plaza.  First time I had the BLT, which I've tried all over San Rafael and this one was delicious.  I love Applewood bacon, which was plentiful and the size and taste of the sandwich were both perfect!  Next time I tried the Bejing Chicken salad, which was outstanding.  Delicious combination of tastes and the ginger vinaigrette dressing worked perfectly.  The S'hroomin pressed sandwich was also a hit at our table as was the MPK Fattoush salad.  No need to drive down to Larkspur or Mill Valley to have a really great lunch or early dinner.  I noticed the proprietor's name is Robert Wellbeloved, and his food is definitely wellbeloved by us.  Can't wait to come back again.  Very friendly staff and home made scones to take home for tomorrow's breakfast if desired, as we did.  Oh, and the prices are very reasonable for such a delicious repast! Magnolia Park Kitchen is a new spot for scones and salads that looks refreshingly contemporary. I stopped in on my way through the square and noticed that this new place was open. Seeing fresh baked scones on the menu sealed it. I loved the variety, from lemon blueberry to strawberry cream, lots of delish options. Friendly staff for sure, very helpful and nice. They also have a fresh menu with lots of salad options. The decor was very 'new restaurant' but still fits in in Marin. Head on over to magnolia park and try out something new in San Rafael. More...
