I totally LOVE Mae's Que House. I got the small rib tip and small mac and cheese... the tips were tender and soooo delicious, it comes with fries and bread. The mac and cheese was not dry, it was very cheesy and flavorful in every bite... this was my first time, but will not be my last... More...
Brisket sandwich tender & flavorful. Small rib tips priced well for serving size...meat tender with well smoked flavor pre sauce.
I had this last night off the food truck in Homewood. The Mac n cheese was delicious. Had to wake up this morning to find the address to the restaurant. I will be visiting soon. My tips were good just was hot enough. The sauce made it better. More...
Meat was delicious
Great food and I love the style of the place. Wish there was more outside seating

Absolutely mouth-watering, tastebud tantalizing, the absolute bomb in barbecue/smoked meats. Nuff said
My job ordered requested the food truck @ work. Tasty turkey tips and smoked mac n’ cheese! Delicious. I will try this place again, on my own....
This was some fantastic bbq. And, the pound cake was given complimentary was super delicious. I only wish I lived closer!
I love all of there food. I had turkey tips and a brisket. They are so delicious you'll end up licking your fingers.
Fantastic take on bbq. They have a unique style-- I had pulled pork on a pretzel bun with apple slaw on top. Good red smoke penetration into the meat, nice rub, still very tender. The side of smoked mac and cheese was awesome. Their sauce has a dash of something (cloves maybe?) that gives it a bit of a Caribbean vibe. Overall, I loved it. 5/5 would eat again. More...
The food is good and the lady who takes my order is always pleasant
My 2nd visit. Everything was very good and tasty. Thanks again!!
This was my first time ordering food from here the turkey tips were soooo good. And i didn't jave to wait long for my order. Im a happy customer. I will n e back soon More...
Have tried the entire menu- and love it all.
My first time visiting this restaurant today. The food is good! The collards greens could've used a little extra seasoning though. Friendly customer service. I recommend to visit this spot. Thank you Mae's! I will be back throughout the summer. More...
There's that moment where you start eating and think, oh, this is very good. Then you have another bite and you notice more details and start thinking that this is exceptional. The hot link I ate here may have been the best I've had.Every bite had that perfect snap that you only get with careful attention during the cook. The meat is nicely spiced. A bit spicy. Juicy without feeling greasy. The grind is not too coarse, but not too fine, giving the meat a nice chew.Definitely definitely try the hot links here. More...
This place is great! Food speaks for itself, and the service is outstanding! I think I spoke with the owner today, couldn't of been nicer! Eat here and you won't be disappointed! Unless you don't like bbq, which would be a shame. More...
Their food is fantastic, and it smells great!!!
Ode to the value of a detour! We discovered Mae's because of a detour when getting off the Tri-State at Dixie Highway. Because of the detour we discovered a real treasure. Mae's is a food truck made good and will be opening a second location soon in Monee. We enjoyed their ribs, rib tips, brisket and hot links. Classic Chicago smokehouse fare! They have a friendly vibe and the owner was a delight as she shared their story. Next time I will try their turkey hot links. We will be back! Finally, check out her Cream Cheese Poundcake. Thank you Mae! More...
Stopped in and gave it a try based on reviews after passing by the place. Brisket chilli, OMG, even without the brisket, the chilli is fantastic, but with brisket, dear lord. Highly recommend for anyone. Also grabbed the turkey tips, different, but enjoyable. Give it a whirl plz. More...
OMG! Slap your momma good
Very good ! Kinda of like the smoky kick to the Mac and cheese ! Job well done . I could of had more tender rib tips , they were kind of tough but overall I enjoyed my meal.
This place has really good smoked food. Was disappointed that my pregnant girlfriend couldnt get her brisket. HahaI really love their sauce!!
Real Smoked meat
Ok my first time there was Friday and it was so so so so good highly recommend everything was so good and the staff was out of this world but the turkey tips that SH** OMG GOOD
Good atmosphere and great service.
omgggggg!!!! The hubby took my car in for service yesterday so he picked me up from work. On the way home, we happened to be driving past Mae's. Seeing the smoke, and wanting rip tips, he decided to give Mae's a try. Me personally, I am not a fan of rip tips. I'll eat one or two here and there, but not a fan. On the way home the hubby wanted me to open the box so he could "check it out". He grabbed one, I said.. ok, sigh... I'll try just one piece. OMGGG. One piece turned into 2 and that was just on the way home!! Once home, I grabbed another piece, followed by another, promising that would be my last. We will definitely be back!!! I called Mae's also to let them know of our satisfaction. Give them a try!! You wont be disappointed!! More...
Mae's is both outstanding and unforgettable. Staff could not be nicer and the Pulled Pork is the best in Chicagoland. Mae's Cake is beyond description. Once you go, you'll go back.....again and again! More...
Good food. Friendly staff. Convenient
Great people and great food
Delicious food quick friendly staff what else could you want when you hungry first time here in driving thru and I'm always looking for the best BBQ around and I'm very Happy with my pick yeah man ok bye I got to eat before it gets cold
A little pricey but worth it at least
I had very high expectations for Mae's after reading some of the glowing reviews. However, I was sorta underwhelmed. The staff here is great! Very friendly and helpful. I truly appreciate the great service which is so often overlooked nowadays. The service alone will make me return and try it again. In all fairness I will say that I arrived very close to closing, about 30 minutes prior. Therefore they had run out of the Smokeroni and cheese, which I was really looking forward to. Nonetheless, I ordered the pulled chicken, rib tips, fries, apple cole slaw, and peach cobbler. Both meats were excellently smoked and tender. The rib tips were perfectly cooked with just enough chew. I thought that the tips had very little flavor outside of the smoke and sauce. If I had ordered them without sauce I think they would've been a little bland. The mild sauce, for my taste was mostly sweet without enough counter tangy. I can't review the other item I was really looking forward to, the cole slaw, because they forgot to include it in my order. Lastly, the peach cobbler was flavored well, but I didn't think the pastry held up well enough to compliment the peaches. Overall I will return to Mae's albeit earlier in the day in hopes that the execution of the food matches the great service. More...
Amazing food! Unbeatable service with a smile!! You must visit for yourself!!!
I love this place!!!! The mac and cheese aka smoke-a-roni is totally to die for!!!!! The prices are phenomenal, I've tried everything on the menu and everything is DELICIOUS!!!

My cousin kept raving about how delicious the BBQ was at Mae's so I had to check it out for myself and let me tell you, it was one of the best decisions I made that day! I got there 1 min before they opened and was greeted by two of the sweetest ladies. I ordered Mae's Duo meat meal (pulled pork and rib tips) with a hot mild combo sauce. It comes with two sides so I asked what they recommended, I was told to try the apple coleslaw and I would have tried the smoka roni and cheese but they were still preparing it, so I opted for the collard greens instead. Of course every meal should have a follow up dessert, so I ordered the cream cheese pound cake with candied pecans. First, the rib tips and pulled pork were tender and succulent you could tell they have a true pit master preparing their BBQ (mark my words there was loved put into the meat). The apple coleslaw was crisp, delicious and refreshing with just the right amount of sweet and tartness from the apples. The collard greens were prepared nicely, they were tender and not overly seasoned, I was not disappointed at all. Finally, the cake was a buttery smooth sweet goodness and was a perfect finish to what proved to be hands down the best meal I had all year to date! I will most definitely be back and will be recommending Mae's Que House to all of my foody friends and family! More...
Good! I read the previous reviews and I decided I finally wanted to try it. If you are a fan of smoked BBQ (hickory, I think) then this is smoked heaven. I could smell the smoke from the parking lot which gave an idea of what to expect. Although I am more of a charcoal type of person vs wood, I was not disappointed. I ordered the sampler platter which included each type of meat they offer with the exception of brisket which I was told they hv on Friday & Saturday. Out of all the meats, my favorites were the pork rib tips & hot links as well as the pulled pork. Also, all of the meat was tender which was probably due to the slow smoking process. My sides were the smoked Mac & cheese and the apple Cole slaw which was also good. Bottom line, I will give them my business. More...
By far the best barbeque in the south suburbs as well as friendly service. Also i might add the most tender rib tips around here!
Pulled chicken is verrry tasty! Add extra sauce :)
Excellent rib tips (pork)!!!! I have been here 3 times so far and I can say that the tips have remained consistent in taste and are very tender. They also give good portions and the food very presentable and packaged neatly in its container. Instead of a piece of traditional sliced bread, they use a slice of Italian bread.
I once tried to order the turkey tips, but they didn't have any made at the time. Instead I ordered turkey links. My husband said they were good, but the hot/mild sauce mixture was toooooo spicy. Prices are OK. This place is a MUST TRY! More...
Listen here this smoked BBQ is everything!! Service is great too!! I'm not even a ribs eating kinda girl but I make every exception when here. It's right next to the highway entrance at 294N/80W. Close to those Hazel Crest train station entrances. Seriously grab you some on your way to wherever and enjoy your ride! Highly recommend the beef brisket with fries and loaded with toppings. Smoke turkey on anything is great. Their smoked Mac n cheese and greens beans with potatoes is right!! Get you a slice of their cream cheese pound cake too, before it's all gone in a day. I'll be going back repeatedly til I've tried everything!! In the meantime go get you some!!! More...
The food is always delicious and the customer service is excellent! I definitely reccomend.
Best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. Can't wait to try the sampler deal
Repeat customer first time with a catering call. They came through with an amazing menus and my family was so happy Christmas night. Bacon wrapped meatloaf was so moist, smoked Mac and cheese was phenomenal, there was no peach cobbler left and the smoked chicken was really good. I wish I had pictures to share but the food was demolished. I will be using them again! More...
Excellent service reasonable price an excellent food
You've got to try the brisket! Quick and friendly service, great portions, and most importantly... Delicious food!!!
Nichole was super helpful and friendly to a first-timer late at night. Got a huge portion of brisket, fries, bread and a deliciously unique sweet sauce. I will definitely be back to try more! More...
I've been meaning to post about this place a long time ago, but better late than never. I have been here a few times and overall my experience has been wonderful.Love it: the smoked Mac & Cheese...AMAZING (Smokey flavor infused in the noodles, with cheesy goodness encasing each one), baked beans with ground beef are sweet and spicy..so delicious. The brisket is good...a tad bit dry, but the sauce covers that up.Don't Love it: the temperature of the meat is never piping hot, just like warm. The sides are always hot, but if you order a sandwich please tell them to heat the bread. More...
best turkey tips i’ve had. and that smoke mac and cheese make u wanna smack your mother. lol. very flavorful place.
Great Food, Service, Portions and Prices... Need Village to allow Food Truck to service Markham... Nice to have great Que in South Suburbs.....
My dad picked up some ribs from this place yesterday. They were to die for. The meat was falling off the bones. I just wish he would have ordered more. Their mac and cheese was baked perfectly, their fries were crispy, and lets not forget those juicy wings. Oh man, I want more now. It smelled so good. More...
This food is awesome!!!
Came from Indiana to try it out. My son k owd the owner. Maybe the best rib tips and fries
I've had in YEARS! Only made it halfway through and got stuffed, the portions are more than generous and each piece was tender, no bones. Worth the drive. Will be back for the brisket fries. More...
Guys. I have never wrote a review like this before. If you like BBQ and want something delicious and satisfying, go to Mae's!!!The food is awesome! Order a pulled pork sandwich and decided to add a small rib tip. Big mistake. The portion sizes are huge! I ate the pulled pork sandwich and took the rib tips home.My sides consisted of fries and Mac/cheese. Fries were fries, nothing stellar there. The Mac and cheese.... oh lawd, delicious. I would swim in it if I could. It was cheesy. Like none of that weird orange cheese stuff, but legitimately good. The customer service was fantastic too. Happy and super friendly.Loved it and will be back. Thanks! More...
I ALWAYS order SOS (Sauce on the Side) because BBQ should be tinder and flavorful right off the grill and I have to say that my experience with reg tips and CHICKEN Tips (Sliced breast or thigh) from Mae’s Que House had NOT let me down! The scent that leads one to Mae’s is truly an indication of what your taste buds should expect. More...
Best smoked bbq ever and great customer service ill b coming back often appreciated everything they offered
BBQ sauce is great, spicy or hot bbq really isn't, but it's got a hint of it in the background that differentiates it from the mild.
G. Crusor-Price, ACC
Most flavorful barbecue meat I've had in years. I truly look forward to going there and anticipating a delicious meal. The meat is fresh, tender, and you can tell the meat is marinated. Some places just put sauce over meat that's not seasoned. But this meat is marinated and seasoned well. It's almost melt-in-your-mouth good. What I like also, just as well, about this place is the customer service. They want to know that you are satisfied, and if you are not, they want to know, so that they can have the opportunity to give their best if for some reason you weren't satisfied. They have a great menu, and the cream cheese cake is off the chain! I will continue to patronize..... More...
Nice little hidden gem. Small place but big flavor. The smoked mac and cheese is good, as well as baked beans and green beans. I'm used to the smoked hot link from I-57; there's is more like a spicy sausage and it's grilled but it's got good flavor. Beef brisket is yummy. More...
Visited Mae'a Q-BBQ house in Hazel Crest the ribs were superb juicy Smokey tender and flavorful however the sauce was a bit too sweet for me and quite thick and my rib tips with cut on the large side I prefer smaller cuts of meat. I'm also used to a small little coleslaw with my ribs and Fries but the coleslaw was extra also needed to be graded up finer and a little bit sweeter but an overall I will give them an 8 * if I could I would definitely be back there and I will support my black business in my community however,r needs a little Improvement and when that does happen I believe they will have a line standing all the way to Dixie Highway.GOD bless. very very good
Best que I had it a long time. Besides my own. Everything Delishaaa. CHEESY smoked mac and cheese Baked beans very flavorful. Even the fries were awesome. Now i tried they tips and links. That smoked flavor put a different twist on it. Very good. I will return to try their Turkey tips and smoked chix.. More...
Its a small building but it packs big flavor. I had the ribs and the chicken tips. The fall off the bone ribs was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The chicken tips was awesome. No bones and the meat just melt in your mouth Truly amazing. The mac and cheese was real, with real cheese. Way better then any small restaurant around. It lookes like someone spent time making that. The fries was fried perfectly with a pretty good taste to them. This small little building blew my mind. If you in the area definitely give this place a try. I know for sure ill be back soon. More...
I saw this tiny red building with plumes of smoke billowing from large vents in the roof. I also could make out the word "Que" from a distance as I drove past the intersection. I pulled over, opened yelp, and looked it up. Mae's Que House. I got excited at the idea of finding a hidden gem for delicious smoky goodness, so I made a plan to return some day.So I've returned twice and here's my review. I'm sure your no stranger to barbecue in the Chicago area, so let's get to the point, this is good stuff. Not the best, but better than most. First off, the mac and cheese is the best of all establishments this size. There are actual strings of cheese, were most other places it's a fake, yellow cream sauce. The green beans are most likely from a can, as they are from most places. To the star, the ribs. They were tender and fell off the bone. I have the combo sauce, a blend of the spicy and sweet. While the heat and vinegar was perfect the sweetness was a bit too much. Cut that sugar buy a 3rd and it would be better, or just buy them dry or if you must have it get it on the side and sauce them yourself. The rib tips were also tender. The meal I had came with fries buried under the ribs and smothered in BBQ sauce. If you prefer your fries dry ask for them in a separate bag, but be warned that the fries are only so-so.Overall a 3 out of 5, but keep in mind many small places in this area are a 1 if even that and don't even get a review. Lower the sugar, get better fries, and a better green bean option and this place could easy be a 5/5.***Ok I'm back. I can't stay away from good smoked meat. Sauce on the side, getting some pulled chicken, and it's even better. The fries have changed and are much, much better. It's great that the owner pays attention to what customers want. This is a rarity these days. Easily a 5/5! Now get here and support a great business and an owner who actually cares! More...
Rib tips were fantastic
Great food from the bbq ribs to the baked beans with meat, delicious apple coleslaw, and the simply amazing smoked Mac and cheese. This is honestly the best and cleanest tasting bbq I ever had, even the French bread with the ribs was delicious. A plus restaurant. More...
Really great food. Try the sampler. You will be back for more.
Great service and excellent food!!!!
I stopped eating cheese but I could not resist the Smoked Mac & Cheese and the tender Turkey tips.
I love the Apple BBQ sauce
This BBQ some of best I have had in Chicago . And I am speaking about when Chicago had some of the best BBQ joints around. So good to know that this place lives up to the old school "grilling" standards. Her packaging of cooked goods are another point that needs to be stressed, which is awesome. Thank you for being the kind of business, (professional, clean, honest) which listens to customers and three feedback. Lastly and not least some of the best Ribs I had had in years!!! list, tender and what appears they are Grad "A" quality loins on the grill daily! Keep up the good work.!!!Phyllis More...
I have waited to give this review.. simply because I wanted to find the precise words to describe my experience. Unfortunately there are just no words to convey just how much I think this is probably one of the best BBQ places I have tasted in YEARS!!! The customer service (Nicole if I recall right) is what you want to see in an establishment that caters to the public. She is calm, cool, professional and straight forward in her dealings with the public. She is the owner or probably one of the owners and wears her brand WELL!!.. If there is any problems with her food, she makes damn sure that it is corrected . That being said the service and the quality of her product is a direct reflection of that establishment. I have had mainly the Ribs and and Tips. Like everyone is saying.. its just GOOD!! Tender, moist and it is presented for you to carry out in a neat, crisp fashion. I am really picky and I despise how some places, just do not care how they package a good. But packaging matters. PR matters, and just plain ole fashioned respect for the customer is what make me proud of this establishment. I will continue to support you and will tell folks who are seeking "good BBQ on the South Suburbs" to look no further go here ASAP!!Thank you for being such a proud African American business that we all can sink out teeth into!! Mae's Que is legit!!!!! Like others who read reviews before trying out a place, I can assure you that the reviews for Mae's Que are real. How many times have you looked at the pictures of dishes and your food doesn't even come close. Not only does the pictures you see posted here look good, but look exactly the same once you open the containers when you get home. My sister and I called ahead and place an order for our family this past Saturday and the customer service was very courteous and patient. Once we arrived we and gave our name the friendly cashier said oh, you're the sisters! Ok, your order will be right up. We were in and out within 5 minutes, ON A SATURDAY!Now, the best part... The food!! Everything we ordered was good. The fam tasted each other's dishes because everyone was saying was saying ooh try this. The brisket chili? Very good..the tender Smokey rib tips, EXCELLENT!!! Pulled pork? Smokey perfectly tender, needs no sauce. The Smoked meat salad? We went with pulled pork which I already said was good, the veggies fresh, please get the bbq ranch with the salad. The ribs? Good, but in my opinion not better than the rib tips. Even the fries and smoked Mac and cheese were good. Like I said in the beginning, Mae's Que is legit!! More...
I was working and getting ready to head for lunch to the usual spots. When I started to smell an amazing aroma. I asked one of the commuters on the platform at Metra station where the smell was from and the directed me to MAE'S. I arrived and they took my order promptly. I had a small rib tip. I had half of the tips they were filling. The tips were tender and the hot bbq sauce was great. Give them a try you won't regret it! And it's walking distance from Hazel Crest platform. More...
First experience with eating from here waslast night. You'd think at 45 min before closing the person who picked up the phone would be tired and impatient. Not at Mae's. I was greeted by the owners wife and you could see her smile through th phone. So personable and friendly- I became indifferent to the food because the customer service was excellent! The food was great! My favorite was the brisket. The first bite reminded me of my dads and he was the master of smoking meat! Rib Tips tastes authentically smoked not steamed or boiled first as some places do. Links were delicious!!!!Nothing like feeling the love of the owners - through the phone and through the food. Yep, there are high quality black owned business in the hood!!! We will be back! More...
I stopped by Mae's today and I'm so glad I found this hidden gem. I had the combo meal with rib tips, turkey link, mac n cheese and green beans. Everything was delish! The tips were meaty and tender. The link was moist with just enough spice. The mac n cheese was AMAZING. It has a smokey taste. Last but not least, you have to try the cream cheese pound cake! Wonderful little restaurant and the customer service was amazing. More...
This is for a take out order.I needed to pick up shortly after Mae's opened, so I phoned the day before to see if I could email the order for 10. Well, to make a long story longer, I got distracted, and didn't get around to sending it until around 8pm. After I sent the order, I noticed that there was a voicemail on my work phone- after hours. So I retrieved the voicemail- it was Nichole! She had gone back into her caller ID and was concerned that the email hadn't arrived. That's customer service! She also followed-up with a thank-you email after the purchase. WOW!Now, truth be told, great customer service goes only so far. The good news is that the products are uniformly great. We had just about every meat on the menu - each stood on its own. Just to be clear, I have 2 smokers in my back yard, and I hunt down bbq when I travel for business. The sauce is a very good, sweet, thick mix. The group was universally appreciative. A few of us are more spice inclined, so we added a SMALL amount of Reaper Squeezin's. The chicken salad with bbq ranch dressing was a hit- although for the life of me I can't imagine why anyone would waste space with shrubbery when delicious bbq is available. It was fresh, crisp, and well prepared- if you go for that kind of stuff. All in all, I wish that I lived closer. My friends- for whom I had bought lunch- kept the menus- and I expect that they will be back. GREAT customer service backed up by excellent product. More...
I read on Yelp the good reviews and was excited to try the smoked wings. Wings are one of my favorites and they have good reviews. Unfortunately, the wings are only available on the catering menu now. They suggested the bacon wrapped smoked BBQ meatloaf and gave me a sample. It was really good so that is what I ordered. Not disappointed in it at all. I will definitely be back to try more. I won't lie, I was disappointed in no wings, but that won't keep me away. More...
Today was our very first time going to this new restaurant. After trying several barbecue places I must say this one was better than all the others. The owners wife is very pleasant and you don't have to wait very long for your food. I ordered the pull chicken, smoked sausage and green beans, everything was delicious and we will be going back again!! More...
I'd like to start by saying that I usually don't write these type of reviews, but I've been compelled to tell others of my amazing experiences I've had here at Maes que house. I myself have eaten barbecue all over the country. I would like to consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur. From South Carolina's mustard base to Kansas City's sweet molasses style. I have eaten it all. But nothing can quite compare to the old world style of smoked high-quality meat, cooked with love. These guys know exactly what they're doing. The south suburbs have truly been blessed with this gem. I believe I have almost eaten everything on the menu and all I can say is that this has to be the best barbecue experience you will be able to find in all of the Chicagoland area if not the country. Wherever you may be coming from, it will be well worth the drive. The food is served hot and fresh. Very clean and staff is extremely nice and courteous. Now let's talk business. The pulled pork is very consistent, flavorful and juicy. Sure to satisfy even the pickiest eaters. Add a little coleslaw to that and you will be coming back for more. The brisket speaks for itself. Very tender and rubbed just right. The notable smoke ring throughout is impressive. The ribs and rib tips have to be some of the best I've ever had. Very meaty and melt in your mouth. I would have to recommend the meat sampler for a taste of everything. The smoked Mac and cheese is absolutely delicious and one of a kind, but all of the sides are well worth trying. The barbecue sauce is just right. Very unique and pairs well with any entree. What is mind blowing is that, this type of bbq can stand alone without any sauce. How many places can do that? Not many. Have a slice of the rich, buttery poundcake and your bbq experience will be complete. I plan on returning this week to try the homemade chili and homemade chicken noodle soup that I hear is out of this world! I also see a food truck outside so it looks like they will be catering the area. I'd love to see more of these Mae's bbq spots opening up around Chicagoland. Truly great food! More...
The picture explains it all. We went for lunch at work and heard about this new place that opened up by us. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich with hot bbq sauce and apple coleslaw on top. Wow, the portion is the first thing you notice and it's such a generous portion. It's on a pretzel bun and came with fries on the side.Tastes amazing and I'm stuffed. Other co workers got the turkey tips and sausages and I think we found our new go to spot. More...
I'm a southern girl at heart, living in the North! Mae's Que House is as good as it gets to authentic southern food. Everything is smoked and that is true, you will see and smell the smoke as soon as you arrive. This was our third visit to this little hidden gem, and it has not disappointed! You must try the smoked mac and cheese, yes it is smoked too! In addition to the Brisket and Rib Tips. They have the best homemade chocolate chip cookies for a sweet ending to a great meal. This is a great addition to the southern suburbs and a must try! More...
